Gabbard For DNI

The political circus continues….Trump has picked his nominee for Director of National Intelligence, US top spy, Tulsi Gabbard…..seriously?

Will she be confirmed to serve on the Council of Useful Idiots?

Good question.

President-elect Donald Trump announced Wednesday that he selected former Hawaii Congresswoman Lt. Col. Tulsi Gabbard to be his Director of National Intelligence (DNI).

Gabbard, a member of the National Guard, was in Congress from 2013-2021. A former Democrat, she recently announced she was joining the Republican party and endorsed Trump in his race against Vice President Kamala Harris.

Gabbard has been an opponent of US involvement in the Ukraine war since Russia launched its invasion. “This war and suffering could have easily been avoided if Biden Admin/NATO had simply acknowledged Russia’s legitimate security concerns regarding Ukraine’s becoming a member of NATO, which would mean US/NATO forces right on Russia’s border,” she wrote on X on February 23, 2022.

During a presidential run in 2020, Gabbard made opposing “regime change wars” central to her campaign. She staunchly opposed US involvement in Syria and made a trip to the country in 2017 to go on a fact-finding mission. While in Syria, she met with President Bashar al-Assad, enraging hawks in Washington.

Gabbard also made clear during her campaign that while she opposed regime change wars, she was a hawk when it came to the war on terror. “When it comes to the war against terrorists, I’m a hawk,” she said in 2016. “When it comes to counterproductive wars of regime change, I’m a dove.”

Does this choice make sense?  Not in my world.

Since Trump has thumped his chest about ending wars then I can see why he might look toward Gabbard.

But as a sound responsible choice I do not see it.

Why?

I do not think she has the gravitas to run a massive government program….I could be mistaken but time will see just how qualified she is for this position.

Will this make our intel service better?  Will it make us safer?

That is yet to be proven….

Trump just keeps nominating amateurs for his cabinet…..weak individuals that will probably be easy to manipulate to his will.

  1. “Qualified” is no longer a requirement for appointment to high office in Trump World– only “Loyalty.”

    1. You got that right. Robert “A worm ate my brain” Kennedy? Gaetz as AG? Gaetz? Seriously?

On the plus side the parent company of the satrical newspaper/website, The Onion, bought Jones’ “Info Wars” show when it went up for sale to pay off the $1 billion dollars he owes to the families of the victims of Sandy Hook.

  2. This just keeps getting more ridiculous every day, doesn’t it? It’s like someone gave him a list of the most unqualified and utterly incompetent people and he’s picking them off that list.

  3. The only measure of qualification for posts in the Biden Administration is to choose men that wear a dress and lipstick and who advocate allowing millions of unvetted creatures to enter the country and women who think killing the unborn is a right. Multilating children for sex change atrocities are another Democrat qualification protocol. Their policies have given the drug cartels and MS-13 a very secure place in our society. Al Capone himself would envy their criminal reach. The whole Democrat train wreck has been a bigger threat to the security of the country than Russia and China combined. For example , Kamooooola thinks capitalist price gougers made food more expensive and promised to get them. She never identified a single offender, No, stupid. Cost of transportation, fuel and fertilizer have skyrocketed due to Democrat policies. Increased tax on business is also passed on to the consumers. Flooding the economy with $ has also caused inflation and they think giving away more $ and spending more solves the problem. That increases inflation even more. I would not have picked Gaetz for AG. If guilty or innocent of allegations , he has been depicted as a hot potato and it is unwise to select a hot potato for service. Trump has choosen a meritocracy of talent with clear stated goals. Tulsi ? May I remind that Washington, Hamilton, and Ike were never elected to anything prior to their government service. They even claimed that Michelle Obama would be a great entry for leadership. They don’t even applaud Tulsi despite being a women and a person with a military service record and Trump has chosen and included women all along. The Democrats installed a Supreme Court judge who could not define or identify womanhood. Real qualified , eh?

    1. Carl I am well aware how much you hate immigrants…but this is about the stupid people he is nominating….at least Biden had people that were sort of qualified….what Biden did or Harris holds no interests anymore that ship has sailed. chuq

      1. I hate unvetted immigrants and the people who dismiss the importance even more and lived in Miami which is 65% foreign born for 60 years.

As usual you do not choose to refute the key points of my comments. Would like an apology re my alleged hate. My father’s side came from Rome and my mother’s from Sicily both in the pre WW I decade. I add, they came through Ellis Island, legally and were scrutinized to the degree in use back them. They were farmers, shoemakers, barbers, taylors and construction workers with no association with criminals. Our entire first generation born here served in WW II and my father’s father, an original, served US Army WW I. Biden’s sort of qualified ? “Sort of” is the basis of republican reform. I have roughly a 250 word Spanish vocabulary which is esp useful for the Spanish food joints I frequented and useful in communicating with students and parents in multi, multi, multi this and that everything Miami.

      2. Carl we are all children of immigrants and mine were just as hated as the so-called illegals are today, so were the Chinese, and Vietnamese and on and on….to diss people as a whole because of some alleged crimes is just wrong. If it is not hate then why such blatant dislike? But if you say it is not hate I apologize for my assumption. chuqchuq

  4. Hmm.. guess I must have missed Carl’s past Biden critiques. I’m an avid anti-Trumper regarding the man himself and his psychotic persona, and far less about being anti-MAGA as that reflects different opinions of nearly half of Americans that can be debated normally. I used to be an old school Republican centrist and considered Biden more a Democrat centrist… and certainly a governing traditionalist toward compromise over authoritarian dogma. The far Left Dems seemed to have corrupted .. or compromised.. the rest of the party with all the peripheral LGBTQ/trans, abortion, “woke”, stuff and have assigned that to Biden/Harris, which it seems they felt obligated to listen to, or look the other way. Too bad, so sad for the Dems obviously given they lost because of it. I think Biden will be recognized in history as a kind of “Truman” in that his relevancy will be recognized more after he’s gone than in the here-and-now. The more urgent issue is Trump now running the show again, this time with with a vengeance. I can’t agree with Carl’s summations given all the things he’s stipulated as Biden “faults and/or shortcomings” has an awful lot of context that is not black & white.

On an unrelated topic, chuq… I came across this today. https://www.cnn.com/2024/11/15/politics/american-fighter-pilots-describe-taking-down-iranian-drones/index.html

I completely realize they are our allies and we continue to supply all kinds of aid for them to defend themselves.. but I really had no idea we had combat units (maybe not on the ground.. but this still qualifies as our people are in the theater obviously risking their lives, if not overtly taking an active effort). I thought we were “helping” them to defend themselves.. not taking part in it. Just seemed curious to me.

    1. We are sending more ‘contractors’ to Ukraine as advisers….I have always been leery of the use of ‘advisers’ since Vietnam…..chuq

  5. Doug, all resonable ideas and make wholesome conversation. However, Truman did not direct the domestic and forein disintergration of America nor contribute to the evaporation of the middle class.

    1. Carl… “the domestic and forein disintergration of America nor contribute to the evaporation of the middle class” is pretty much impossible for a single president to do in 3-4 years, especially with one of both Houses under opposition control, not to mention events in general, foreign and domestic, tend to take over any president’s administration to stall agendas. So I do not agree with your broad hyperbole. In fact, while I find Trump an appalling human being in general… I fully believe that the constraints of the Constitution, especially with a free press, will prohibit even him from going too far. There are far more who might believe in the “spirit of Trump” than likely surrender to some the nutcase antics he will likely try during his term. I am confident there are still reasonable people who voted for Trump for other than Trump himself. We shall see.

  6. Lobotero re immigrant hate: Yes agree hate improper. I was referring to accusation I personally hate. I hope my comment did not birth that conclusion. Seems it has. What I hate is the policy of unvetted protocol. If I was trapped in world’s rat holes I’d try to get here too. Unvetted and notice to appear promotes danger and ignores danger. Seems half the country not concerned. Thousands of military age Chinese, well dressed, full wallet, college and tech educated are as dangerous to security as Chinese war machine and they ain’t coming here to open laundrymat stores or to make shrimp rolls. I fully agree with you that hate and dislike for immigrants does exist and find that just as unmerited and distasteful as you. I am disappointed in myself that my comment is interpreted to be hateful to immigrants. I am not with an ugly soul like the hate in others you describe. My objection is to the lack of security this infiltration seeds entire society.

  7. Carl.. just a passing thought here. Given all the shock & awe on the Trump win among Dems.. and all the revelry from his supporters…. and knowing the national divide will continue regardless who had won.. sometimes we might be forced to look down from a higher “altitude”.. that 30,000 feet thing… and have greater faith in the PROCESS the Founders created, and less about the people along the way who ended up mired in it. After all, the Constitution is far greater than any of us, but entirely defends each of us. As that General echoed to his Chinese counterpart.. democracy indeed can be messy. Even the shining city on the hill requires effort to keep it shining. Trump will test that and we will pass the test, Perhaps not totally unscathed within our current culture, but certainly intact as a democracy… and we will continue to be the admiration of the world.

    1. Doug….survive we will…..unscathed at in the least….but we will see just how serious these people are about the Constitution. chuq
