An old con returns!
Fancy name for a con job that is over 40 years old….and still effective, believe it or not.
The title is a fancy name for the old BS of trickle down economics or Voodoo economics if you prefer.
I have been watching this con for decades that started with lover boy Reagan….just a reminder from 16 years ago….
The Humor That Is Trickle Down Economics
And now with an election looming we are hit with the con yet again….
They’re at it again. And it’s not even original: The trickle-down economics that two-dozen Republican governors and former U.S. President Donald Trump are reviving as you read these words has a long history.
“Trickle down,” of course, was the theory advanced by former President Ronald Reagan that if America only made rich people massively richer with staggering tax cuts, ending anti-trust regulation, and government subsidies for their industries, they would use all that extra free money to build new factories, hire people, and the abundance would trickle down to the average worker.
It was a lie, but it wasn’t the first time the GOP had tried that lie. Then knew exactly what they were doing, and what outcome it would produce. Instead of raising the pay of their workers, the rich people on the receiving end of Reagan’s, Bush’s, and Trump’s tax cuts simply added the cash to their money bins and investments, bought new yachts or trophy wives, and blasted themselves into outer space on penis-shaped rockets.
Nonetheless, Republican politicians think we haven’t noticed and they’re trying to pull it off again at both the state and federal level. A bill with 102 GOP co-sponsors (the Tax Cuts and Jobs Permanency Act) is in motion in the House of Representatives right now to double-down on Trump’s tax cuts.
How did we get here, and why are they still pushing something that’s so discredited it’s become a punch-line for late-night comedians?

The more ignorant among us will believe the trickle down con no matter what fancy name they assign to the bill. They say Americans are wising up to the con…..I ask are they really?
Experience says they are not.
May I suggest that you pay closer attention to what will be your money and less to some smiling con man that tells you everything you want to hear.

“lego ergo scribo”
Yeah, but dems are masters of the “it will pay for itself” lie when increasing the deficit with another wallet-busting initiative. They call these initiatives. I call them “wallet-busters”.
Most of their ideas are run past the CBO and in most cases they will pay for themselves…..GOP is not so luck. Not one Dem proposal would raise my taxes however the slackers would….sounds like a good plan to me. chuq
I lived through that whole fiasco back then during the Reagan years. My wife and I were newly married and trying to survive in the fiscal mess he and his backers created. The inflation rate and high interest rates we have today is nothing compared to what happened back then thanks to them completely f*cking up the economy. We were looking at 11% mortgage rates or higher, 13% or higher car loan rates…
Everyone seems to forget that A) he almost bankrupted the country, and B) later he (and then Bush) had to sign off on massive tax increases in other areas that resulted in in a tax increase that was actually greater than what the original tax cuts amounted to in order to keep the country going.
Well, I say “he” but it really wasn’t Reagan’s fault. He never had an original thought in his life. He was an actor, not a politician. Well, not a very good actor, true, but still an actor. His entire political career was scripted by the people backing him. He was so far in over his head that you could see the confusion and even panic in his eyes whenever he was forced to go off-script. Generally all we see of him today are brief clips from his formal speeches. No one remembers the “deer in the headlights” look he’d get when some reporter sprung a question on him that he hadn’t been prepared for. Plus, of course, he was already suffering from dementia during at least the last 3 years he was in office, poor bugger. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.
Exactly….and thank you for reminding us of their games and consequences. chuq
The only words that come from the mouth of a conservative Republican these days that are not lies are, “I am going to screw you.”
And ‘trust me’ chuq
We are hearing similar crap from our desperate politicians as they try to win the election in July. Using new names for old policies doesn’t seem to be fooling anyone at the moment.
Best wishes, Pete.
Apparently Brits are more astute than the average American….for these lies are working…..yet again. chuq
