I am not talking about the age of the major players…..I am not talking about a third party that all will blame for the favorite party’s loss in 2024….no, I am talking about the American people’s blase attitude toward this coming election, the 2024 election.
Comments here have shown just how much the people could care less (at this point)……
If the idea of talking politics these days feels like a wearying chore, you are not alone. A new study by the Pew Research Center finds that 65% of Americans say they often or always feel “exhausted” when thinking about politics. A smaller majority (55%) feels downright angry. Only 10% feel hopeful at the prospect, and a rarer few (4%) feel optimistic.
- Almost 3 in 10 people (28%) have unfavorable views of both parties, the highest percentage in 30 years of asking that question. About a quarter of people (25%) say neither party represents them well.
- Only 4% of people say the American political system is working extremely or even very well, though 23% give it a “somewhat well” rating. Most (63%) have little or no confidence in the system.
- When asked to describe their views of politics in their own words, 79% used negative words such as “divisive” or “corrupt,” and only 2% chose positive terms. Along those lines, a whopping 86% agreed with the sentiment that “Republicans and Democrats are more focused on fighting each other than on solving problems.”
- Most respondents (63%) say they’re not happy with the current batch of presidential candidates.
- The results come from two surveys, one of more than 8,000 people in July, and earlier one of more than 5,000 people in June.
With that bit of news……after the election is said and done could there be a repeat of 06 January? Or maybe something worse?
A report released Monday highlights how state laws across the U.S. fail to protect voters and election workers from the “growing risk of gun violence” tied to increasing firearm deregulation and sales as well as American political leaders fomenting distrust in democracy.
“The 2024 election will unfold in a transformed legal environment,” warns Guns and Voting, the new report from the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of Law and Giffords—a gun violence prevention group founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), who survived being shot in the head.
The publication explains that “in 2010, only two states let people carry concealed firearms in public without a permit or background check. Now, 27 states allow ‘permitless carry.’ While other states have strengthened gun regulations during this period, the Supreme Court has threatened their ability to do so.”

I’ve personally expended my vehement disdain over everything Trump and his MAGA nonsense and lemming supporters during my blog diatribes when he was in office in his four years. As tiring and frustrating as that was, it was nonetheless a learning experience. In an interesting twist I’ve garnered a greater respect in the Constitution as a result. I’ve also realized to a greater degree that our form of democracy as reflected in the Constitution is anything but perfect but it has shown to be the best we have, and to follow it is NOT a guarantee to some Utopia of a political “Easy Street”. In spite of all the political hyperbole the remedy process for all our disputes rests inside those processes.
In the end Trump (failed) didn’t “ruin” the country. I am quite sure if he gets elected again (and it continues to be legitimate) he will not “ruin” the country.. and that is only if we continue to follow the rules-of-the-road Constitution. I won’t like it if Trump wins.. he’s a mentally unfit person much less any sort of leader, he’s been convicted of civil liability a few times, twice impeached, 90+ indictments (the odds alone mean he will get jail time for at least one… if he lives), and he could do immense political damage domestically and internationally. Fortunately he will have the check of Congress (he will never have the support of both houses). If “We, the people…” really elect him then “We, the people…” can choke on his chaos crap for four more years. It won’t be forever and the crap ends at the end of those four years. Perhaps one redeeming aspect would be that Trump will devote his time in office being an arbitrary idiot by working through his revenge list in the courts. Maybe that will keep him (and Congress) from mucking up important issues of the day.
As for Biden… he’s too old… we should assume a vote for Biden is a vote for whomever is V.P. should he get re-elected. No personal joy for that either, but far better than anything Trump.
In the end I’m more a whatever happens, happens… as long as we continue to follow the Constitution.
I agree with you on the Constitution and the problem is SCOTUS for me….they seem to follow in party footsteps….and I agree if elected he will not ruin the country…..however his supporters may.
Biden…a big business Dem that is way too old….his VP gives me zero confidence. chuq
I certainly have no inside scoop on anything. The MAGA-ites seem to be trying to dominate, but the rest of the GOP is damned confused, without any leadership with balls, and will collapse when Trump does. Again.. all speculation.
I wish I had an answer….but from where I sit they are going with the political winds….their morality and concern for the country no longer exist….any actual conservs have left or is leaving politics “to spend more time with their families’ which is a cop out. chuq

To expound on my already far too long dissertation above…. Trump is going to have a difficult time finding “true and legitimate” players for serving in his administration should he win given all the chaos that has befallen his “loyalists” after his last fiasco administration. I fear it will default to less-than-honorable MAGA-ites that support him over the Constitution… which includes this idea of the continuing vilification of anyone opposing Trump. He could even find a loyal Chairman of the Joint Chiefs… although that person has no command function. It will also cause a block should there be any attempt to remove Trump using the 24th Amendment. I also fear if he does “go away” from natural bad health brought on by his aging that MAGA people will automatically assume the “opposition” had something to do with it. That’s bound to cause some domestic conflict.
My fear is not that Trump just might win. We know him by now. He’s impulsive, never plans anything ahead. Is far more arbitrary than he is scrupulous. He’s a buffoon. BUT… it’s very easy this time around that Trump could attract a bevy of loyalists within the White House leadership, with their own agendas and would/could very easily “handle” (manipulate) Trump, even to the point of making extreme decisions as being “Trump affirmed”. Especially when we already know as Trump ages his brain will get far worse. In other words… there will very likely be no naysayers inside the White House with any moral convictions as there was last time.
Again….. the intellectual and moral people generally available to serve in presidential administrations simply will not be there for Trump. That last bunch ended up in legal jeopardy afterwards, shunned in any furthering of their public careers, and most certainly were victims themselves of Trump shoving them all under the bus. That’s why I see the danger is not Trump himself… but the fanatics that support him gaining control, after learning from the first time.

From over here, it seems as if whoever wins there will be trouble and recriminations. If Trump wins, he will take his revenge that he boasts about. If Biden wins, Trump supporters will repeat the lie that the election was ‘stolen’.
