As the political circus known as the 2016 election for president draws to a merciful conclusion….there are a few things that need to be said about this process.
I have long stated that this election is a true silly season…..that the debate is about insults, platitudes and slogans…..all policy has taken a backseat to ego driven contest between two absolutely worthless candidates.
Rather than policy, we debate tweets and emails.
I have a different explanation than Richard Wolffe for why this is a Seinfeld election (a show about nothing). Wolffe cites some economic and crime statistics to demonstrate that, much like in 2000, we’re living through a time of peace and prosperity and therefore the stakes seem so low that we can focus on Trump’s tweets and Clinton’s emails without having a serious conversation about policy.
What this misses is the degree to which Red America is missing out on the prosperity. The booming areas of the country are almost all in either blue states or in the blue areas of red states. The phenomenon is only getting more pronounced as almost all the movement among the electorate that’s headed to the right is coming from working class whites in hollowed out towns who used to be Democrats. Trump is picking up steam in Western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio even as suburban women around Cleveland and Pittsburgh flee his party.

Voting is a decision made by the person and NO good decision has ever been made in anger.
And another thought about your choices when voting…..

There is no focus on the issues that face Americans in their daily lives…..instead of the major issues of the day we are bombarded by emails and tax returns (let it go!)…..these are the issues that should be front and center of this election……

But sadly these issues get a little lip service and then back to the playground mentality of the candidates…..the closer the election day gets the less issues are important…….the voter is losing and NO one gives a crap.
The mentality of the populist issues directly reflects the mentality of the population who subscribes to them. The issues in this campaign so far have been so mundane and basically meaningless and irrelevant that I suspect their is either a vast national malaise brought on by the frustrations of two or three failed administrations and the frustrations of a people trapped in an elitist-generated paradigm that seems endless and unbreakable. A social order drowning in horse manure is bound to focus their attention on horse manure and I think that is what is happening today. Too many horses asses in power, too much horse manure being spoon fed to an apathetic, gullible and naieve social order.
sounds accurate to me….maybe add that they still think that they can achieve change by voting for the 2 parties…..
Most of them wouldn’t know change if it bit them in the behind because most of them aren’t aware of anything that needs changing anyway … most of them run on gut instinct based on expectations of instant gratification of material wants and very few if any have a deeper understanding of anything not presented in the most concrete terms possible.
Agree but yet they tell about it with each new election….what does that say about the voter?
Sheep
Yep and it gets worse with every election…..
Really like that image.
Got it on my Twitter feed….

As a Canadian, I only want an additional wall to be built at our shared border. No idiot who votes for either the BUFFOON or the WARMONGER should be permitted entry into Canada. We are not that polite! Sorry! (I still, however, take pride in having manners.)
LOL
I get concerned about the people who–every year–think just visiting the polls and voting for Person A will magically make everything better. We’re so far beyond simple, slow fixes that only one person cannot get everything done, its gonna take someone who can bring people to the table to work together. otherwise we just have more partisan b.s. to deal with that will leave us stuck in the same place.
sorry–i meant “every election cycle”, not “every year.” Long day already and I’m still getting used to this site (hee hee).
No problem….a few brains farts is acceptable…LOL Thanx for the visit and the comment….chuq
Good point the problem is that there is so much partisan crap these days that we will not fix the economy or the country. chuq
