I have been a critic of the plans that the US is employing to fight ISIS…..for one the moronic attempt to vet and train Syrian rebels…this one has been a flop which means more of a failure than just saying failure…..or the weapons that we deliver to the rebels that wind up in the hands of ISIS…..you get the idea…..nothing that the US is doing in the fight against ISIS could be termed “a success”……
With all the crap going wrong in the fight against ISIS the Obama Admin has found something that they will count as a “success”……
Over the weekend, the Obama Administration presented the massive Saturday night ISIS attack in Baghdad as something that only “bolstered” America’s resolve to win the war militarily. Today, Deputy Secretary of State Tony Blinken insisted that it wasn’t just about resolve, that the bombings themselves were a sign of America’s military success.
The Baghdad bombings killed 215 people and wounded 175 others. A number of children were among the slain. The largest attack was a suicide bombing against a major Shi’ite shopping district, which was crowded because of the breaking of the Ramadan fast.
Blinken argued that the US war is going so well, with the US beating them by “every single measure,” that ISIS is launching even more attacks than ever, saying the attacks too are “a measure of the success we’re having” in defeating them militarily.
This is a reoccurring theme in the Obama admin…..like the civilian deaths from drones is proof that the program is working against ISIS.
This sports fans is how propaganda is used effectively…..turn bullsh*t into a military victory……
Even though it has been pointed out just how bad their plan against ISIS is…they refuse to alter it and search for a better way to fight this barbaric group…..
Their lame attempts to convince the public that this battle is being won and is all but over is just a pathetic attempt to convince the public….divert their attention and keep what little support they have from deteriorating….
So far that plan is meeting with limited success…..for now!
During World War II, the then German/Austrian Dictator, Adolph Hitler, was broadcasting over the radio and over loudspeakers all over Berlin from a bunker deep under the city that Germany was winning the war and that Hitler’s troops were routing the invading Russians even as the invading Russians were about to break the lock on the bunker door.
At some point the German people knew it was all lies…I am waiting for the American people to reach that saturation level…
Yes, they knew it was all lies when the allied forces swept into their neighborhoods and heard their protests that they didn’t know what was happening in the concentration camps and then rounded up all the locals and forced them to help care for the bodies of the concentration camp victims … that’s when they knew it was all lies … then and when they felt the heat and the shaking earth from the bombs and artillery of the Allied Forces and the Russians advancing on them.
They knew they just chose to be ignorant of the the places….
Yes.
After Stalingrad, most Germans knew it would take a miracle to win. D-Day was just the clincher, the cherry on top. Lightning Wars are designed to go forward and don’t reverse that well, especially in snowy conditions. But even though most of the public knew they weren’t going to win, nobody dared suggest this out loud, lest they get “taken to camp” for being disloyal.
Speaking of camp, I knew a few elderly Germans a couple towns from Buchenwald. They said they knew it was a pre-war concentration camp for people the government said had “done something wrong”. They heard during the war it became a “work camp” where employees needed to ensure their life insurance policies were up to date. They just never got the memo about the upgrade to “Solutions to Problems”. Only after Patton’s boys frog-marched the locals through the camp did they actually grasp the reality & the magnitude. But after that, they were just hoping to forget the place. Not just because of the shameful memories, but because it had been converted into
a FIMA Camp….er…Soviet Special Camp #2 were “people who had done something wrong” were sent. While it’s easy to say Germans “chose to be ignorant” of the camps…detailed knowledge of them, especially if you were remotely critical of them, was about as good as making a room reservation. Generally speaking, when a guy in a really cool, black leather, uniform with a sidearm tells you to believe/forget something or be “sent to camp”, most people tend to believe/forget that something.
Government Secrecy has a way of whitewashing things in the mind of the public. It makes the lies & propaganda they’re told more effective. For example, the classic “If you’re not doing anything wrong, you’ve got nothing to worry about.” is very effective when you have no idea who is being punished, what they’re being punished for, and the details of their punishment. So even if they know the basic premise of what’s going on, that knowledge is disconnected from their reality and can be more easily rationalized. (See: Abu Grabass, Gitmo, torture, drones, etc.)
Nobody wants to think they’re on the side of The Bad Guys. So to keep that disconnect up, they just need occasional “inoculations from the truth.”….which every government is more than willing to hand out.

THe Frenchman was my fave on Hogan’s Heroes…..
Me? I really liked Helga…and apparently so did Hogan….at least until his “concussion”.
But I think it’s time Americans stop being so smug about Germany because I think Americans might be the next butt of “Nazi jokes”…a defeated fascist empire whose crimes get perpetually pinned on its citizen “accomplices”.
When I think of the average person’s feeling of influence within the military & political spheres of gov’t, words like ‘helpless’ and ‘inconsequential’ come to mind. But honestly, I’m pretty ignorant when it comes to understanding ISIS’ raison d’etre. Will stay tuned…
swords into minecraft plowshares,
m
I appreciate your visits and comments….I try to help my readers grasp the complexities of the world….hope you will visit often….chuq
I believe their raison d’ etre is that they feel they are the only I***mists (Gotta be politically correct here and not hurt somebody’s feelings by saying the forbidden words) who are following The Quran amd so they have taken on the mission of trying to adhere strictly to every precept of their ideology including the violent ones (and there are more than 130 violence-prone verses in their book) — It is kind of like if some American religious people suddenly decided they were going to follow the Old Mosaic Law to the letter and started advocating for the stoning of apostates and so on and so forth like they did in the days before The New Testament changed everything and made it more docile. If you look in The Old Testament you will find some violent practices that were done in those times in the name of religion just like you will find in The Quaran and probably most every other religious book ever written. Like one scripture says, “There is nothing new under the sun.” Mans’ inhumanity to Man in the name of religion has been going on since the dawn of time.
John there about 200 verses of compassionate living also….the toads in ISIS are not Muslim no matter how much some want them to be…
I know, I know …. and there are a lot of compassionate verses in the Hebrew Texts and The Christian Texts also … but my point is that if somebody goes off the deep end and becomes fanatic it doesn’t matter whether they are (Forbidden word in order to protect the feelings of sensitive sould and to maintain political correctness) — or whether they “Think” they are the “Real” ones or not … All religion has the capacity to become involved in blood letting to perpetuate itself … Christians, (Forbidden Word, Brahmans, Budddhists, all of them … all that are human …) because it is the nature of human beings to war and to kill one another …. been going on for centuries and will go on for centuries more.
Makes one wonder just what religion is really about then, huh?
Religion has always boiled down to one or two things …. usually conquest and control or blood and blood sacrifice. I hope that answers the question satisfactorily.
It will do for now…but I reserve the right to re-visit this at a later date…LOL
You do not have to reserve any rights with me. You always have the right to express yourself in my corner of the world. So yeah … revisit whenever you choose and how ever much you choose … just remember not to put up photos or videos in your comments. I know you haven’t, but I remind everybody.
I was being humorous..I had to deal with a lawyer today so I am baffled by legal-ese…LOL
When you get the time read some “Blackstone.” (Law). Very interesting study — especially the case studies.
John, I have a hard time sitting with a lawyer and not popping him in the mouth…most are smug a/holes….I do not know if I could read stuff without feeding it to a shredder….LOL
I hate to admit that I did the work of Paralegal at one point in my life.
I will not hold that against you…LOL
They are Muslims alright … It is just that they are a different kind of Muslim. The same doctrinal divisions also thrive in Christian circles. There are the good, the bad and the indifferent and all are convinced their way is the right way and everybody else is wrong …. but when the rubber meets the road none of them could even exist if it hadn’t been for their founding agent (Be it prophet, person, angel or devil) spreading the original concepts of the belief system.
Muslims in name only like so many Christians…a true Muslim lives by the Quran…these toads are not….back to your point….it is the same with ALL of them…
A “True Muslim” lives to the best of his or her ability to what they have been told is the way of The Quran. It is the same with Christians. Christians attempt to live their lives according to what their peers and their parents have taught them and for that reason there are several distinct departures in interpretation that we call denominations. I do not know what the denominational equivalents in Islam are and I could care less because my Heritage is based on some Christian interpretation of right and wrong and I am happy to stay in it.
Their right and wrongs are the same as yours….just like with Christianity these interpretations are just that…..
Rights and wrongs differ with interpretations. There is no escaping it.
True and sad also
thank you. the old order of bloodshed once again, simply tragic. 🙁 I do wonder if there are people that ISIS would listen to that would make them see the stupidity in killing random innocents… or, as I fear, the ‘martyrs’ are just pawns in a worldwide power grab.
then there’s the m.i.c., which is more complex than I probably could imagine. it’s much appreciated that these topics are being discussed and I just ‘happened’ to be within earshot. 😊
peace,
m
It is fortunate for us bloggers that you are in earshot and that you have chosen to comment … which I dearly appreciate.
Divide and rule is the name of the game….
Yanks are gluttons for punishment…it seems….
🙁
Though I do lurve some….grin
Where is my friend dru?
she has not been around yet…..I would imagine soon though….
Owing to the recent adventures with The European Union it would seem that Britain shares some of America’s gluttony for punishment.
Of course… 🙁

All I know is that right now … in the year, 2016, all I am hearing about is radical Islamic terror attacks. I do not hear about dozens and dozens of Christian terror attacks going on all around the world right now, do you? Oh I know what the dodge will be on that one … “There have been several Christian terror attacks before.” Yes, I grant that but there have never in contemporary times been as many of that kind as there have of the other kind and I find something significant in that. When Christians start issuing demands for their followers to walk the streets and kill people at random, indiscriminately then I will rethink my positions.

Sorry I stay as far away from Facebook as I can get….old paranoid hippie that I am Hahaha…
Winning a war means ending a war and ending a war means ending the profits to be made from the war that has been ended and I do not see much of that happening in today’s world where everything seems to run either on oil or on blood.
Today it is more blood than oil….you are right the cash is too good to end wars….
