I have written in opposition to the targeted assassination by the US government……I have questioned whether it is acceptable to kill innocent civilians in the effort eliminate a “terrorist”?
Another question is whether or nor it is internationally legal to do so….please read the article and let me know what you think of the tactic……
Legality of Drone Warfare or Illegality of Drone Assassination? by Coleen Rowley — Antiwar.com.
This is a tool used solely on the notion that might makes right. Good intentions set aside, its indiscretion to where it is used further insights would-be militants and does more, IMO, to foster terrorism around the globe and specifically at western nations than any actions that would mollify the problem. If it were 100% effective in killing “the bad guys” with no civilian casualties it would still face the legal challenges that forbid its use in sovereign countries not giving the authority for their use. But then there is always the problem about who gets to decide who the “bad guys” are
I agree….I believe that it was Ford that signed the act that forbid government assassinations…..but Reagan fond a way around the law…..and we have been doing it for decades….now we have a more convenient tool the drone…..
