A Tax For The Sake Of A Tax

Recall back in the day when some pudgy little dude that was against taxes had all the power for the GOP?  He made them sign a pledge that they would NOT support tax increases and would work to lower taxes at every turn?  Remember that?

This went on for 20 years more or less….he was the most powerful lobbyist for awhile…..well all that influence is starting to dwindle away…..

It appears that those Congress slackers that are indebted to the Military-Industrial Complex has had a change of heart on taxes…..some taxes….

Politico is reporting…….

The new chairman of the House Armed Services Committee is taking a bold stand for a Republican and fifth-generation Texan who represents one of the most conservative districts in the country: He’s not ruling out tax hikes as part of a deal to avert sequestration.

“I’m pretty much open to any solution that would fix sequestration,” Thornberry said in a wide-ranging interview, making clear he believes “the taxpayers of this country have been taxed enough” but that a compromise could be necessary to spare the military further budget pain.

“This is not about my preferences,” he said. “This is about having the bigger, longer conversations about how we get from here to here even though I can’t tell you that road map at this moment.”

Thornberry also said the issue of sequestration was too big for his committee to solve but that Armed Services members have a responsibility to make clear to other lawmakers the damage the cuts would do to the military.

And there you have it…..Repubs will support a tax increase as long as it benefits those in the M-IC…..but nothing for the really important issues like health, education or poverty…….God forbid that defense contractors have to actually work for their profits……..

Once again the GOP has shown that war is far more important than the society as a whole.

“War is good business…invest your children”!

  1. Forgive me, whose the pudgy little dude having everyone sign? I must have been a child at the time.

As a former GOP voter, I am now left to wonder who to stand behind. I believe that the Dept. of Education needs to be abolished. The school districts where the parents whose children go to the schools should be the ones invested in it. BIG GOVERNMENT hasn’t helped in any way, shape, or form. I cannot think of one way that big government has helped as long as I can recall.

I am of the mind that the entire Capital Hill needs to be emptied out, the NSA needs to be abolished, the FBI needs to be revamped completely, the IRS needs to be done away with, the CIA needs to be revamped completely, our VETERANS deserve to be treated like the heroes that they are for putting their lives on the line for us and not left to live on the street, like beggars. homeless Vietnam Vets, our veterans are coming home from war now only to commit suicide, THIS IS WRONG! This is where our government should be taking care of those who volunteered to serve and protect the United Stated of America, they didn’t get to choose where they were deployed, but they served valiantly regardless, only to come home without the help they need.

I will never vote for a Democrat ever. I voted for one once, only because he was Greek and I was dating a Greek. I was young and foolish. He didn’t win, thank God.

I will not vote GOP save for my State Rep. as she deserves my vote and my Sheriff as he deserves it. I have attempted multiple times to make contact with my Congressman that HE is the reason for this decision. I had always held him in high regard, with the utmost respect. But now he is the 4th most powerful man in DC. My Gov. is planning a run in 2016. I have blogged about both of these. My Gov. will not survive the traveling to the ‘important states’ as the unemployed Unions will follow him everywhere he goes. They will exercise their 1st Amendment Rights and he will never survive. And he will have lost his governorship in the process!

War was good business. WWII put women in the workforce while the men were out fighting. The production lines needed to keep going and the women stepped up to the challenge, even while raising their children. And the thanks they got when the war was over? Get out and back into the kitchen where you belong. Hence, the Women’s Movement begins to be formed.

Pulling out our troops from Iraq and Afghanistan does not mean that the ‘war’ is over. He has a calculated reason for pulling them out. You will not like the outcome in the next few years.

His full of BS (and I don’t mean Bachelor of Science degree) of a State of the Union Address last night was so packed with outright lies designed to keep the public ‘happy’ since his statics are in the toilet and all that’s needed is to flush. Don’t worry about the Republicans or the Democrats… worry about the Muslim Brotherhood and ISIS. Worry about Russia, Worry about North Korea and ISIS joining forces. Worry about Iran and ISIS jointing forces.

I shall end my rant with that food for thought… I thank you if you’ve made it this far. I also invite you to read my blogs on my GOP leaders as well as others.

    1. Norquist(?) the anti-tax dude.

I told everyone in 2008 here on this blog that Obama was not change….NO candidate was change…they were about reform. Not the same thing. No one wanted to hear it….so I was slapped around by both sides.

ISIS and Iran will never join forces…..one is sunni the other shia…..not the best of friends….North Korea is a windbag…..Russia we should worry about…..and our growing world presence….we have 100+ bases worldwide in 55 countries….sounds like the making of an empire….

Nothing will change as long as there are only two parties….different sides….same coin.

Thanx for the comment …it is good to have a dialogue with my readers…..rant all you like…..chuq

      1. Thank you, Chuq! We may have bases worldwide, but what is their purpose there now? Is it still the same as it once was?

I am sorry people are so hard-headed that they will not even see their own noses on their own faces and abuse the ones that want them to simply take a step back and look at the whole picture, even if for just a moment.

North Korea may be a windbag, but if they are nuked up, they may be willing to sell to ISIS to see the U..S. destroyed. Who knows? All I know is that the future is bleak to put it on the positive side as best as I can see it.

There is a third party – The Constitution Party. However, they don’t have the money to go up against the money machines of the Dems and GOPs. Hence, the RINOs like Rand Paul, the Libertarian who knows he can only get elected if he gets under the umbrella of the GOP instead of standing on his morals and beliefs. For that, I could respect the man. Since he can’t, I can’t.

This is the only Nation that has rebuilt the countries that we have destroyed by war. When we dropped the A-bomb – essentially ending WWII, we went back into Japan and rebuilt it. That is what America once stood for.

We were once a humanitarian country. And we still are. While they were flying over Iraq as ISIS chases the Christians to the mounting to die of hunger and thirst, our military was dropping food, water, and supplies to them. But you rarely see that reported on the 3 main sewer lines on TV.

Russia mocks Obama and his so-called imposes sanctions. Did you see how he showed up in Japan while Obama was there? Putin was even so bold, as he passed Obama to put the shawl around the shoulders of the Emperor’s Wife’s shoulders (normally expressly forbidden), he pats Obama on the back of the shoulder. Putin is seen as charismatic and charming. while the leader of the once most powerful Nation in the world, the leader of the free world, looks like what he is, impotent to lead, self-seeking, and taking whatever good reputation this Nation once had in the eyes of the World and has done irreparable harm.

Thank you for always having patience with me and my questions. I don’t have the knowledge you have, nor the perspective you have. i respect what you have to offer. You have seen much more than I have. I appreciate your kindness toward me. Rhonda aka nanarhonda

      2. This is getting out of hand…..we are not helping countries all we are doing is making the Military-Industrial Complex wealthier and more powerful….Hell even Ike warned against the M-IC…..we are acting like an empire trying to control everything in the world through special interests….political BS has eliminated humanitarian thoughts especially in this country….we now see others in need as parasites…..not the best quality in a supposed democracy.

We use to rebuild countries to help the people survive….now we rebuild to aid in wealth creation of special interests….

All small third parties have a single vision….they are against taxes or abortion or ….so on…..few have a all encompassing vision and that is where they all will fail……

It is may pleasure to have you engage in dialogue…..you are more than welcome here any time you choose….

      3. Thank you, Chuq. I appreciate it, even if we don’t always see eye to eye. As the Bible calls it, “Iron sharpens iron.” So I learn from you things I would never learn from anyone else from a perspective I would never learn from.

For that along, I thank you!

      4. Me too, my friend, me too. I have always had a ‘big mouth’ so that’s why my blog is called MY SOAPBOX and gives me an outlet to speak my mind. I am also involved in LinkedIn… interesting enough, I was accepted into the psychology group with no credentials and the pastor’s groups as well. I have a place to have my voice heard there as well!

Not sure if I’m educating or agitating but I’m making a lot of connections so it has to be good, right?

      5. If you write what you feel is truth then you are educating and agitating takes a bit more subtlety….LOL

      6. I concur… and am still looking for one even at the ripe age of 50! Isn’t that a shame? I try to BE to others what I wanted someone to be for me, yet I still look around for that. Kind of silly now… but the child in one, is still yearning even though that child is within an adult that has successfully raised two children who have their own families and are people of good character. I must find a way to put that child within me to bed and tell her all is well; but I haven’t been able to each time I’ve tried.

Everyone does deserve a person like him, you are so very right, chuq! 🙂

      7. True… even of they walk away, they can’t “unhear” what was said! Well done. chuq! I hold the same perspective. 🙂

      8. Rhonda, I write like I talk….a bit scattered sometimes and short and sweet….my grand father told me once about my writings….”why write a novel when a paragraph will do?” so most of my posts are short and sweet…..

      9. Your grandfather was a man of wisdom and able to put his wisdom into short paragraphs! You had a great mentor! Rhonda

      10. Rhonda, he was that…a great mentor…..that one quote I gave you was one of his cleaner sayings….he was a bit of the “Dirty Old Man”…….LOL

      11. Thank you fot keeping it clean for my sake! I wish I had had a mentor. You were blessed, even if he was a dirty old man!

      12. You are welcome….my father was in the military and spent all his time sexing his way across 4 continents….I was raised by a working mother and her parents….so my grandfather had a big influence on my life….

      13. Your grandfather was a significant mentor to you as well as your grandfather. Regardless of his naughtiness, he had to also have given you other qualities as well. You were blessed to have had someone like him. I so wish I could say the same…

  2. Chuq, I am not sure why my response to your 24 January 2010 comment when to a response above, but I was responding to your most recent comment. Rhonda
