America Helped Make the Islamic State | VICE United States

There has been much discussion on who did what, when and why……some of it is good discourse and some of it is manure wrapped in news reporting…..there have been oh so many people that have an opinion on what we should have done and when….but so far not one of those has been any where near the fighting….so their opinion is worthless.

I read this piece yesterday and think my readers that are interested in the rise of ISIS might find interesting……nothing is as cut and dry as the MSM wants us to believe……

  1. “Was there anything that the benevolent governments in the West maybe did before, like perhaps kill a half-million or more people in Iraq, that would drive so many people to an Islamic militant group?

I have always been opposed to any intervention in Iraq and this latest “intervention” does have me concerned but let’s keep one thing in mind. As we are reminded that our intervention there under Bush/Cheney did result in the death of half a million people a lot of those deaths were the direct result of the civil ware between the Sunnis and Shiites, who were seeking revenge when Saddam the Sunni was in power. Also, ISIS is not killing hundreds of Americans or even western Europeans. They are killing Iraqis, Kurds and Syrians who share more culturally with them than those who invaded Iraq back in 2003.

The author of this article,Charles Davis, has, in my opinion, let his passion about the killings there blur his overall perception somewhat.

    1. Larry, that is the problem with passion….it clouds the eyes sometimes……I find I suffer from it from time to time…..but to you point we could also say that our intervention allowed the killings to commence is in a way we were indirectly responsible……for under Saddam few had the nuts to set a bomb for the fear of retribution…..with him gone the flood gates were flung open…

True, but the will was always there between the two religious groups and it was Saddam who originally created it within the Shiites under his control.

      2. True there has always been tension between the two groups but I think that the invasion exacerbated the feelings of hopelessness and it boiled over into the violence we have come to know and loathe…
