Opinion from the desk of the Editor
The so-called “only democracy in the Middle East” learned its history well.
I asked the question, “What Is Israel Doing?” Recently Netanyahu was pushing for the state of isrel to be termed a “Jewish state”….and boy did that set off a whole array of criticism.
I am beginning to think that Israelis have lost all connection with the history other then using it to get their way…….playing on the world’s guilt……
May I help them here?
In 1933, persecution of the Jews became an active Nazi policy, but at first laws were not as rigorously obeyed or as devastating as in later years. Such clauses, known as Aryan paragraphs, had been postulated previously by antisemitism and enacted in many private organizations.
On April 1, 1933, Jewish doctors, shops, lawyers and stores were boycotted. Only six days later, the Law for the Restoration of the Professional Civil Service was passed, banning Jews from being employed in government. This law meant that Jews were now indirectly and directly dissuaded or banned from privileged and upper-level positions reserved for “Aryan” Germans. From then on, Jews were forced to work at more menial positions, beneath non-Jews, pushing them to more labored positions. (Thanx to wikipedia for the info)……
In other words Jews in the 30’s in Germany became second class citizens…..and theat brings us to the move by the Israeli government……..
Leaders of Israel’s Arab minority have reacted with fury to plans by the Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, to spearhead legislation defining Israel as “the nation state of the Jewish people”.
Arab Israelis say the law will pave the way for discrimination against them to be entrenched in law.
Liberal Israeli Jews are also warning that Mr Netanyahu’s announcement that his government intends to “provide a constitutional anchor for Israel’s status as the nation state of the Jewish people” is “undemocratic”.
Mr Netanyahu says that a Basic Law is necessary because enemies of Israel are trying to challenge the historical, legal and moral basis of the existence of Israel as a Jewish state.
Taleb al-Sanaa, a former MP, responded yesterday: “This initiative is very dangerous to democracy and pushes the Arab public beyond the borders of the state in a legal sense. It perpetuates the inferiority and marginalisation of the Arabs and is a sure prescription for confrontation. It represents a parting of the waters between the Arab public and the state of Israel.”
“…………..a Basic Law is necessary because enemies of Israel are trying to challenge the historical, legal and moral basis of the existence of Israel as a Jewish state.” Now take that statement and replace Israel with Germany……..sound familiar?Israel is doing the same thing thing that Germany did in the 1930’s….turning a part of the population into second class citizens…..
Tell me again about the “democracy” of Israel in the Middle East.
Closing note: I have heard an new oxymoron…….”Hebrew neo-Nazi”………..
The award-winning author said that the term ‘price tag’, widely used to describe the attack, and ‘hill top youths’, the term used to describe the radical settler youths behind the attacks, are sanitized euphemisms.
They are “sweet names for a monster that needs to be called what it is: Hebrew neo-Nazi groups,” Oz said at an event in Tel Aviv, which marked his 75th birthday and publication of his new book.
“Our neo-Nazi groups enjoy the support of numerous nationalist or even racist legislators, as
well as rabbis who give them what is in my view pseudo-religious justification,” he said at the event.
Just seems two words that do not belong together….Hebrew neo-Nazi……..just a thought.
Fear, hate and time will transition anyone to a place they never imagined themselves
