Spread The Word

The year is 1939, the Federal Communications Commission set the following policy:

A licensee of an international broadcast station shall render only an international broadcast service which will reflect the culture of this country and which will promote international goodwill, understanding and cooperation. Any program solely intended for, and directed to an audience in the continental United States does not meet the requirements for this service.

February 1942 the Voice of America made its first broadcast into Germany and was used although the years of World war 2 it broadcast info provided to it by the War Department……and then during the Cold War years……In 1947, VOA started broadcasting to the Soviet citizens in Russian under the pretext of countering “more harmful instances of Soviet propaganda directed against American leaders and policies” on the part of the internal Soviet Russian-language media.

Bet about now my reader is wandering where I am going with this……..there is a new role for the VOA……….

According to a report at Foreign Policy, a new piece of legislation due for a vote on Wednesday of this week would force Voice of America, the federally funded news media organization, to toe the U.S. line even more closely and become an explicit propaganda tool of Washington.

A powerful pair of lawmakers in the House of Representatives have agreed on major legislation to overhaul Voice of America and other government-funded broadcasting outlets that could have implications for the broadcaster’s editorial independence, Foreign Policy has learned.

The new legislation tweaks the language of VOA’s mission to explicitly outline the organization’s role in supporting U.S. “public diplomacy” and the “policies” of the United States government, a move that would settle a long-running dispute within the federal government about whether VOA should function as a neutral news organization rather than a messaging tool of Washington.

“It is time for broad reforms; now more than ever, U.S. international broadcasts must be effective,” said Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, in a statement.

A demand that VOA broadcast propaganda….now that is humorous….why?  It has always been an outlet for propaganda……but for decades we have pretended that it was only for the broadcast of ‘real’ news…..and now have have a bi-partisan bill that blows that pretense away.

Just so much stupid…….Telling a nation to stop doing what it is doing and submit…….just how do you think that will go over?

2–Now the prez of Germany is telling another country what to do………

Germany’s president warned during a trip to Turkey on Monday against the consequences of curbing freedom of expression and he criticized Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan’s leadership style.

A heavy-handed crackdown on anti-government demonstrations since last year and a corruption scandal swirling around Erdogan’s inner circle have generated the greatest challenge to the premier’s 11-year rule and drawn the outspoken disapproval of senior officials in the European Union.

Gauck, a former East German Lutheran pastor who campaigned for the 1989 fall of the Berlin Wall, praised Turkey for the progress made under Erdogan on issues such as the economy and the Kurdish peace process, but added:

“Recently we have also heard voices of disappointment, bitterness and outrage at a style of leadership which many see as a risk to democracy,” he said in an address at the Middle East Technical University in Ankara.

 

Sorry but the last time anyone listen to Germany on foreign policy was in the 1930’s……..and what will they do if Turkey does not comply?  I know they will their enforcer…the US…….

We’re probably five, six years at the most, I think, behind Canada in terms of enacting such hate-speech kind of laws and crackdown. It’s already happening informally, as we saw, again, with Mozilla, with Eich, as we’re seeing with Donald Sterling.

And it’s easy to do with Donald Sterling. You know, they can test the waters because, I think, universally people agree that what he said his horrible and he’s just kind of a not a very appealing guy and his words were reprehensible. So, they’ve already banned him for life from the NBA, they’ve already banned him from having anything to do with the team that he owns, which may or may not be appropriate, but people are clamoring and saying, ‘That’s not enough!’ And I don’t know what else they want to, do they want him tarred and feathered, do they want him drawn and quartered? They certainly want to force, and confiscate his property, and that’s what we’re talking about, and that’s what happened with Brendan Eich, they confiscated, essentially, his livelihood, his means of carrying out a living and feeding his family.

I think Mr. Barber is thinking about a hundred years too late…..think Sedition Act of 1918….such a f*cking moron!

Whether in Western nations or in supposed moderate Muslim nations, the spread of sharia continues unabated. And the loss of freedom and democracy is the inevitable result. As Islam continues to conquer by force of arms or stealth jihad, the liberties of the rest of the world continue to shrink.

Cases of this occurring are never ending it seems, and you finish one article on this, only to find new, even more frightening examples of creeping sharia. The capitulation of the Western world to the demands of Islam is hugely worrying, and places like Europe and the UK seem just about gone.

Consider the latest move in the UK to placate and appease Islam, even if it means snubbing your nose at Englishmen themselves. The headline reflects a growing trend to do everything to accommodate Islam, no matter what the consequences for everyone else: “Subway removes ham and bacon from nearly 200 stores and offers halal meat only after ‘strong demand’ from Muslims.”

And what next? Will Subway bow to further Islamic pressure and stop serving altogether during Ramadan? Will it soon remove female employees, or at least cover them in burqas to keep Muslims happy? Will they soon be lying out Islamic prayer mats for any devout Muslim seeking to do his daily religious duties while munching on his sub sandwich?

InfoWars host Alex Jones may be feuding with Glenn Beck, but he appears to be emulating the former Fox News pundit’s driftintotelevangelism. Jones spoke today with WorldNetDaily editor Joseph Farah and the two agreed that the United States is experiencing God’s wrath.

“We have become a decadent, wicked country and we’re going to be judged,” Jones said. Farah interjected that “this is judgment, what we’re experiencing now is judgment.”

Later, Jones added that “the judgment’s only beginning though, I have a real feeling of dread in my spirit about what’s coming.”

God’s wrath?  only a pea-brain douche would even use those words and can anyone believe that there are some that look to these toads for news?

6–One of my fave Righties is Larry Klayman and homeboy has a reason for these recent racist outbursts………

Larry Klayman insists Americans had “stopped thinking in racial terms” until Barack Obama was elected president, which is why Klayman says that Obama is to blame for recent racist statements made by Cliven Bundy and Donald Sterling.

Klayman, who is working with Bundy on his foundering legal dispute with the federal government, warned in his Friday WorldNetDaily colum that Obama is trying to extract “reparations” from “whitey.” “[W]hites, and particularly rich ones, are now at the back of the bus,” as “Obama has set back the civil rights movement to the days preceding King and the advancement in race relations that followed his death.”

“While I cannot with certainty explain the recent outbursts of what the mainstream media perceived as racism by Cliven Bundy, owner of the Bundy ranch in Nevada, and Donald Sterling, owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, this feeling and latent resentment by whites that they do not have a president who represents their interests, but instead is prejudiced against them, may be a large part of the underlying cause,” Klayman said.

“Much as blacks experienced in the years leading up to Obama’s election, and even to today, whites now feel disenfranchised by our chief executive, and they may be striking back subconsciously with this resentment.”

Unfortunately I will agree with Klayman…..we had stopped, for the most part, thinking in racial terms until Obama was elected and then the Right went batshit crazy and they started all the racists bullshit.

Let’s Talk GDP

For fun why don’t we talk economics today?  Damn, so quiet we can hear a pin drop…..I can hear all those rectums slamming shut……..damn I like this stuff!

Gross Domestic Product (GDP)……..The monetary value of all the finished goods and services produced within a country’s borders in a specific time period, though GDP is usually calculated on an annual basis. It includes all of private and public consumption, government outlays, investments and exports less imports that occur within a defined territory.

In a recent report it was said the economy was limping into the recovery….it feel short of expectations……it grew at an anemic 0.1%, that is one tenth of one percent…………and what does that mean to the country?

  1. What Drove Economic Growth In The First Quarter? Consumer Spending. Market Watch reported that consumer spending increased 3.0 percent in the first quarter, slightly down from a 3.3 percent increase from the last quarter. Consumer spending accounts for more than two-thirds of economic output in the U.S. so a continuing growth rate in this category is a good sign.
  2. If Consumer Spending Growth Rose, What Was The Money Spent On? Healthcare.  Healthcare spending rose 9.9 percent in the first quarter of 2014, the largest increase in the growth since 1980. The rapid increase in health care spending was primarily because of the implementation and enrollment deadlines of the Affordable Care Act. According to Business Insider, “The first-quarter advance estimate reflects spending from January through March, the first three months when millions of people who gained insurance by signing up on exchanges established by the law or by qualifying for Medicaid coverage under the program’s expansion.”
  3. What Hurt Economic Growth In The First Quarter? Business Spending. Business investment spending dropped considerably this quarter, according to the report. Fixed nonresidential (business) investment fell at a rate of 2.1 percent after a 5.7 percent increase last quarter. The Wall Street Journal reports that business equipment spending experienced the worst drop since the second quarter of 2009, with a decrease of 5.5 percent.
  4. What’s Going On With The Housing Market? After dropping last quarter, investment in the housing market continues to decline. Investment in home building and improvement decreased 5.7 percent after a decrease of 7.9 percent in the last quarter. The Wall Street Journal points to a low level of home sales, low housing inventory, and increasing mortgage rates as contributing factors to the slowing of the housing market.
  5. What Was The Reaction From Economists? Most economists were surprised by the weak report, after a general consensus that the U.S. economy would grow at a rate of 1.1 or 1.2 percent for the first quarter. Dan North, chief economist at a credit insurance firm, noted in a New York Times interview that if growth does increase over the year, it probably won’t be a sign of a stronger economy: “’We’ve been living in sub-3 percent land, and people have gotten used to that as the new normal,’ Mr. North said in an interview before the Commerce Department announcement. ‘But it’s not. It’s anemic.’”

The economy just keeps creeping along………but why?  Could it be that as long as it is anemic then the corporations get everything they want with the promise that if they do the economy will boom?
