(Newser) – North Korea vowed to restart its Yongbyon reactor in April, and the International Atomic Energy Agency today indicates that the country continues to head down that path. Relying largely on satellite imagery, the IAEA’s chief noted that “activities have been observed at the site that are consistent with an effort to restart the 5MW(e) reactor.” Reuters explains that is Yongbyon’s research reactor. Yukiya Amano noted that the agency’s lack of accessibility to the nuclear site renders it unable to “conclusively determine” if North Korea has gone so far as to restart the reactor.
Experts had expected it to take about six months to get the reactor operational again, and white steam was spotted at Yongbon about six weeks ago. Amano added that he remains “seriously concerned” about the situation.
Believe my friends…there is more to worry about in this world than how fast a website is working.
I wish I could say that Americans will eventually pull their heads out their collective asses…..but I am too realistic and I would be lying!

I heard something this morning which needs some verification. A blogger i follow claims its been discovered the healthcare site was hacked by right wing activists, causing its problems. Have you heard anything along these lines?

As far as I am aware, it’s just speculation at this point. I would not in the least surprised. In fact, I’d be legitimately surprised if there wasn’t SOME hacking going on, and that SOME of that hacking was from people on the right trying to embarrass Obama.
In any event, the loads experienced were magnitudes higher than expected, so there was definitely something fishy going on. And who, of course, has the most to gain by trying to take down the website.. sooo.. yea.. it’s likely, but unproven. The problem, of course, is that it may actually be unprovable.
Hackers – good hackers – are good at covering their tracks. If there was a concerted effort at bringing down the site, there may be no definitive proof that it was ever even attempted, let alone who the perpetrators were.
That said, there were (and are) some serious issues within the website itself. So, even if we’re going to point fingers (probably correctly) at the right for (A) rooting for failure and (B) possible helping to cause such failure, we shouldn’t let ourselves entirely off the hook insofar and the site was buggy as sin and not ready for prime-time, regardless of any hacking considerations. (Consider that Google is the subject of hacking attempts daily, but it never goes down – why?)
I can get into more specifics if you’re interested – I’m not a computer professional, per say, but I am fairly well knowledgeable about all that newfangled computer stuff kids are into these days, what with their blags and tubes and interwebs. Take what I say with a grain of salt, but if you want to dig or need a primer, I can probably offer you some decent footing. Consider it a public service.
