Today is election day! Get Out And Vote!
These were some thoughts that I wrote down a couple months ago but did not post for some reason……but I will share them with my reader now…….
It is late Summer and it is time for me to get serious about a candidate that I will support with my vote…..I go through this process with a little logic and common sense…..do I want a smaller federal government? Or do I want the government to step in a do what is necessary to create the demand that this economy desperately needs? What’s it gonna be or more accurately….whose it gonna be?
There are a couple of things that I need to consider….these are personal observations and by no means a formula for others to follow….like I said a little logic and common sense would be employed….here is my quandary.
Should I support Obama? If he is not re-elected it could be the death throes of minorities having a chance at the presidency……..the media will beat it to death if he loses and the people will get the attitude that…”see we gave them a shot and they were just not up to it”……it will reflect on any other minority candidates that try for the highest position of power in the world. The media will make it so…and we all know that they can make or break a candidacy…..
And then there is his position on the most important issue of this election….the economy. Personally, I do not think that he has tried enough to bring it back. He is as much a stooge of big business that little if anything will change if he is re-elected.
Then there is Romney, should I support his attempt at the presidency? Personally, I think he is not presidential material….he is an empty suit that will say whatever it takes to win an election….not an attractive characteristic in my opinion……(there is a but….)………as an aging radical from the 60’s I see the possibility of revive the Left with Mitt’s election…….the divide between rich and poor grows every year and will do so at a faster pace with the Romney presidency (at least according to his promises and rhetoric)……the Left needs something to drive its rebirth and Mitt is that driver…..with his election the voter will suffer from buyers remorse and that remorse will drive the Left to its rebirth….something I am told by right wing bloggers that I long for since the days of yore……
Obama’s policies suck! Romney’s is a bigger vacuum!
And there is my dilemma……since I cannot vote “none of the above”……..do I support Obama over Romney or vice-verse? Do I want to protect the chances of minorities? Or do I want to help rejuvenate my radical leanings? Who will it be?
Say buddy could you spare a dime….I need to flip it!
Did they say that about white people after Carter’s debacle? No. People who say that are racist, plain and simple. People who think most white people will say that are racially paranoid, and ought not be taken seriously.
Obama is a failure because liberal policies are failures. I like Obama, the man. I’d love to sit down and have a beer with him. He’s jovial and loves college football. I’d love to have a beer or twelve with him. But I don’t want him as my president because his policies are not good for America. It’s that simple. It has nothing to do with race whatsoever, and shame on anyone who tries to argue differently.
You do realize we are talking about the media…they will make a story where they think it will pay off…..period.
At least there are policies…..Mitt has zip as far as policies go…….if these policies are such a failure why is the markets up 100% over when he took office….you are just wishful thinking…..
Lobotero,
Yes, I know we’re talking about the media. If they start yammering that America is racist because Romney was elected, then they ought be ignored. Simple as that.
What markets, Lob? The stock market? Which stocks?
The averages from a low of 6000 to a high of 13,000………
The market had to rebound, Lobotero. My goodness. It wasn’t going to stay that low forever, regardless the economic policies. We’re not an all out socialist nation – yet.
Oh boy we are back to the socialist bullshit…oh goody gonna be a long 4 years…
I speak-a da truth.
For the love of christ, more people are on food stamps because the economy sucks and unemployment is high…its a no-brainer for people who think for themselves. Also if anyone is worried about socialism then they ought to move to some other country, I don’t give a rats ass where, cuz baby it’s been here for a long friggin time already..your police and fire departments are just two examples. Debt is up because of many factors, not a singular one either, just putting the two wars ‘on the books’ helped build the debt because Bush43’s dumbass didn’t put the wars on the books…which was idiotic on it’s face.
Yep. You left-wingers keep telling yourselves that it’s all Bush’s fault and that Obama’s $5 trillion debt in one-term is of lackluster importance in the explanation of our sluggish economy ever year the past four-years, and each year more sluggish than the last.
Police and Fire are socialist? Providing for the public good is not a uniquely socialist idea. It’s nestled within the Constitution. You should read it.
Look Terrance, don’t get smart ass on me. I have read both the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. You have a great way of putting people down for their beliefs. And yes, having everyone pay, via their taxes, for the police and fire departments IS a socialist idea, one you evidently do not have a comeback for except to be mean and telll me to read the constitution. Taking care of everyone regardless of their station in life is a socialist idea….one that I agree with. Not everyone can keep their head above water and yes, Bush 43 did NOT put either war in the budget…Obama did that and they should of been there from the start. Not to mention Bush43 lied his ass off to get us into Iraq..but that is another issue for another time. The Nation has a good read about how Socialists built the US..care to read it? I will give you the link.
And how about the higher unemployment? Increased number of people on food stamps? $6 trillion in new debt?
You talk about a market being up 100%, but that’s not difficult to do when the stock market was down so damn low immediately after the financial collapse. Conditions of improved since that collapse, but we’re nowhere near where we should be. And that we’ve improved is simply a result of time healing the wound, not Obama’s policies.
So you go ahead and keep using that weak ass argument. You can use it for at least another eight-hours or so. But be sure to get yourself to Wal-Mark today. I hear they have crying towels on sale.
The only thing weak is you and your people fixating on food stamps…..I may have only 8 hrs left but you people will have another 4 yrs to cry your foul……
I don’t see how it’s fixating. It’s a fact that more people are now on food stamps than when Obama took office.
And that is our biggest problem?
Of course not. But it’s symptomatic of a more expansive problem: growing poverty.
Dusty,
Based on the filth you regard as a blog, I say you’re not worth the few seconds it’s going to take to respond. But what the hell?
Collecting taxes and using that money to provide for the public good – police and fire – predates socialism, you halfwit. Perhaps you should read a book once in awhile.
Of course, socialists such as yourself manage to stay socialist by NOT reading books.
Also, welfare existed in the United States as far back as 18th Century. But it was a local thing. It wasn’t operated by a Federal or State government, but local municipalities.
Anyway.
Is it your belief that Bush planned those wars before being elected? Or, more likely, did Bush respond to the worst attack on the United States – ever? Afghanistan was a completely justified war. We went into Iraq because of bad intelligence.
If Bush made any mistake regarding the Middle East, it was believing that you could change the fortunes of Middle Easterners by spreading democracy. The Arab Spring taught us that Muslims will fight for democracy, kill for democracy, and then hand it away to radicals the minute they achieve it.
Bush miscalculated the Middle East. He miscalculated the power radical Islam has over its people.
Your opinion of my blog or me means nothing terrance. But of course you had to make it a personal attack to make yourself feel superior. Why don’t you grow the hell up and stay on topic and leave the personal attacks at home, you pathetic child. Bush miscalculated the Middle East, that’s it? LMAO. Sure, go ahead and believe that if it makes you feel superior and knowledgeable. Now leave me the hell alone because you don’t know me and I don’t give a rat’s ass what your opinion is of me or anything I say or believe. People like you are a dime a dozen…hateful and full of shit. You are a troll and nothing more. You have managed to go after everyone who has commented on this post and our host, Lobotero tolerates you for some reason.
Interesting that within the corsage of meaningless drivel above existed not a shred of argument. Your juvenile prattle wasn’t even indulged by so much as a scintilla of humor. You insulted me much like a child would have. Pathetic.
The only individual I have attacked personally is you. Loboero and Larry know my rhetorical style, as they have for more than a year, and we frequently jab at each other. It’s not personal; it’s political. They know I have respect for them but not the ideology that guides them.
Now, which issue would you like to discuss? The War in Iraq, or the existence of Police and Fire Departments funded publically, which you erroneously take as prima facie evidence of socialism?
First I’d like to explain that conservatism is not synonymous with unfettered capitalism, nor do real conservatives want everything privatized. Government has a responsibility to provide for the basic public good. That socialism takes this notion to the most extreme of levels does not make the notion uniquely socialist.
Socialism is a perversion of the human desire to be compassionate toward one another. Before long, compassion is unrecognizable in socialist societies, and it becomes clear that the only real compassionate thing about socialism is the rule that it will destroy itself.
We provide for the public good not out of compassion, but out of self-interest. People know that one day they might need police and fire protection as well.
I agree Terrance. If comments come from the media, especially FOX and other right wings sources, then that would make them hypocrites because of the frequency they have that they have tried to make a point of anyone criticizing Obama was a racists.
Larry,
Certain MSNBC hosts (Chris Matthews) have said that the Right is more concerned with defeating Obama because of his race than we are of getting al Qaeda. That’s a stupid remark – and you know it. Fox and other right-wing sources report on the constant race baiting coming from left-wingers like Matthews.
I voted for Obama in 2008, and supported Herman Cain early in the primary season. So anyone who accuses me of being a racist because I’m not voting for Obama this time around is nothing but a damn fool.
But, yes, if any media source begins making the claim, then they’re hypocrites, whether on the Right or Left.
I am voting for Jill Stein because I refuse to vote for Obama and all his hard right turns. Plus, I live in a strong blue state so voting for Jill won’t hurt the Big O but it keeps my conscience clean.
Atta girl…..go with principles not popularity…..kudos.
I also voted for one of my felines instead of the damn blue dogs they run around here in Redneckistan. Why do people think raising taxes is like going straight to hell? No logic to keeping them low for the 1% who have proven for years now that they don’t create jobs with their wealth…just more wealth for themselves.
The so-called pundits on Faux Noise make me physically ill. I can’t stand Tweety on MSNBC either..but Faux Noise holds the record for race=baiting and lying their colllective asses off.
Tweety, aka Chris Matthews was repeating that idiot Mitch McConnell’s line…it was his number one job…to make Obama a one term President. Sure, there are idiots on both sides of the political fence, but the rightwing nutters don’t even have facts to support the vast majority of their bullshit.
The stock market is up more than 100% btw. The top 1% have done quite well during this recession when it comes to the stock market and hedge funds.
