I was not going to write on this issue because I knew it would piss me off and put me in a foul mood for the rest of the day…..but somethings need to be addressed whether they piss you off or not…..
By now everybody in this country have heard the story of the PSU coach who has been accused of raping little boys for years….I know most men know of it because it involves football and that is something that they must keep track of in the their lives……more so than the country that is dying slowly….but who is in the lead in the BCS is the important issue…….
Okay, it seems that this degenerate was observed raping a small boy in the college’s football showers….the person that observed it reported it to Paterno who in turn told the AD….the punishment was the keys were taken away from the man who committed the crime……and then it was swept under the president’s rug and everyone went ton their way playing football….enough done!
What crap! For one thing Paterno like any other winning, high visible program, the head coach is king on the campus….when he speaks the president listens and then does…..I want to know how a school that has been a champion of decency could allow this to happen….and how did anyone involved in the cover up could sleep at night…..
At what point did a sports program become more important than the rape of a minor?
Paterno has lost his job…..and with the announcement the students rioted on behalf of Paterno. Think about that!
The loss of their head coach was more important than a known pervert had raped a minor in the school’s showers….hope the parents are proud of their children.
I do not care how pumped up a person is about their school’s program…..it is NOT acceptable to condone child rape and the firing of the coach is a minor result…personally, none of that went far enough…everybody involved in the cover up to protect the school’s football program should be confined in a federal prison…NO! That is too good for them….they should be put in general lock-up…….
This whole situation just shows where priorities are for the colleges in this country….the sports is everything……the 10 year old is NOTHING! The students have shown just how pathetic they can be…….and the athletic departments will do anything for the cash….no matter how perverse the act is…….
I will no longer consider PSU as one of the best colleges in this country…there is nothing that they can say or do that will make people view them as anything but a pathetic institution!
Here’s a question….how many PSU students were arrested for rioting? Now how many OWS protesters are arrested?
This was clearly the bright thing to do. No one person should be held above reproach on this kinds of things.
Now if we can just get the U.S. Justice Dept. to get as serious with the financial crooks on Wall Street who brought our economy down and throw some of them in jail, then some of these twisted people might start doing the right thing.
I agree……
pardon my typos. “right” not bright thing to do and “these” not this kinds of things
I don’t think firing Paterno was called for. He followed protocol by informing the Athletic Director and the Vice President of Penn St. And apparently, the police were notified and were investigating it and whatever prosecutor had the case turned up missing. So there’s a lot more to the story. And I don’t think you’ll find Paterno had anything to do with a coverup. He’s being used as a scapegoat.
Terrance, we are talking about the rape of a 10 year….everybody that knew about it and did nothing should be charged with a crime…..from what I understand it was the campus police only….and do es anyone think that they were going to do anything to mess with the program? The rape of a child is a sex crime….would anyone defend a guy named Joe Smith under any circumstance?
Lob,
What rape? That’s what I wanna know. No victims have come forward.
And allegations are just allegations. In 1998, allegations were made and there wasn’t enough evidence to proceed, so the case was dropped. Then in 2002 some guy claims to have witness the rape and doesn’t try to stop it or call authorities, he merely tells Joe Paterno. So, what is Paterno to think? “You didn’t bother to stop it? Why didn’t you call police yourself? Why come to me?” All questions that could be running through Paterno’s head, so he passes the information off to his superiors who alerted campus police, who investigated and found no evidence, apparently.
If Sandusky is guilty, he’s guilty. He should rot in hell. But someone at Penn State dropped the ball and it’s being put on Paterno, and that’s B.S. He followed protocol. The guy had retired by then. What else was Paterno to do?
Terrance…….there is an eyewitness….so a guy in the program is not a credible witness….Paterno reported it…..president acknowledge it…..Paterno is KING on that campus…….okay, he followed protocol…..what about morally? I am preached to constantly about the morals (no disrespect to you). It is all about the football program….Paterno should have gone to the police…like I said not much happens on that campus, especially involving football, that he was NOT in control of……..this pervert has admitted according to some documents that he had been a bad boy and his keys were taken……once again…this is all about the program and not about a minor who was raped or allegedly rape……..
Paterno was protecting the millions of bucks the program received…..there was NO concern for a minor boy being sodomized……
He’s supposed to call the police and say…what?
“Um, yes, Joe-Pa here. I need to tell you that one of my assistant coaches says he saw a former assistant coach of mine molesting a boy in the shower. What? What’s that you say? Why didn’t he call you and report this to you himself? Why, I don’t know.”
So he’s supposed to call and give the police hearsay. I see.
Look, I get what you’re saying and I agree that the University is more concerned with their football program and that’s B.S. But I just don’t see how Paterno was in the wrong.
Reuters is reporting that the mother of victim#1 is talking with police now……I will agree to a point about the witness…he was a 6’4″ 198 lb QB he should have done more than pussy out….and that he still has a job over Paterno…..but again like all Big name programs the coach is KING…..nothing is done without his approval especially when it comes to the team…..a 10 old boy sees the coach as the authority and does as he his told…..even to the point of rape…….If I knew about a rape and did not call the police what would be said about me? (NO I have NEVER done so, just as an example)……
Personally, Paterno was right to go to the prez of school, but he should have told the man that he had 24 hrs or he would go to the police himself……but instead he did the minimum and then let the whole thing go……and when he called the police he would say an underling reported to him and the name of the deviate and that he had gone to the prez and since he did not report it he did…..
What I see is that Penn State didn’t see these boys worth being protected. It’s that simple, so they did absolutely nothing. I hope that school is broke by the time these lawsuits are done. They have forever altered the course of these young men’s lives.
Hi totsy…nice to see you again…..Paterno followed protocol and that may be good in a legal sense….but my question is when does his moral compass kick in?
