I Guess I Am Not The Only Conspiracist

Recently, I wrote that the games being played with the debt and such could be viewed from a conspiracist’s point of view…..that is that games are being played in Washington by our elected officials to keep the economy in the tank as a way to influence the outcome of the 2012 elections…….I said then that I do not want to believe such a game was being played but that the whole drama of the debt ceiling and taxes and deficit cuts was staring to stink of a political move….I also said that I would NOT put it past the asswads in Washington to be doing this……surely….I must be mistaken, huh?

Maybe I am not as crazy as I thought I was……..seems that someone else sees this as a political game for the election……..it seems Sen. Chuck Schumer has a thought on all these dramas within dramas……

In a blistering speech at the Economic Policy Institute — a progressive think tank — Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) asked a question that’s been on the minds of many Democrats and progressives: Are Republicans sabotaging the economic recovery as part of their quest to defeat President Obama next year?

“[W]e need to start asking ourselves an uncomfortable questions — are Republicans slowing down the recovery on purpose for political gain in 2012?” Schumer said. “Senator McConnell made it clear last October that his number one priority, above everything else, is to defeat President Obama. And now it is becoming clear that insisting on a slash-and-burn approach may be part of this plan — it has a double-benefit for Republicans: it is ideologically tidy and it undermines the economic recovery, which they think only helps them in 2012.”  (Thanx to TPM)

Could we be mistaken?  Or is it possible that our politicians would be playing a deadly game with the lives of the citizens?  By now…the average citizen should be aware that they are of NO importance to politicians except during an election….the sooner we learn this the sooner we can attempt a change…..

Well, we know that politicians play games and we know that most will do anything to get re-elected…..so with that….I guess it is possible.

    1. rs, welcome aboard it is always great to see new faces on the site…….and thanx for the comment and hopefully there will be many more……..this is just disgusting if true…..I want to believe that it is not…..but I know it is more true than not…..

  1. I can buy into that theory of sinking the economy for the sake of 2012 political gains. But here’s the caveat: If it could hurt big business, who are in bed with the Republicans, corporate execs could get on the horn and call off their mad dogs. Don’t want shareholders to suffer let alone share prices to plunge. Could be a buying opportunity though. I think the general, thinking, public sees what’s going on and is sick and tired of the likes of Eric Cantor.

    1. Hansi: That’s not necessarily always true – for the BIG guys at least. It’s hard to make much money in a stable market – in an UNstable one however… Naturally, in such circumstances, “forewarned is forearmed” – of course that involves something akin to “insider trading” and they wouldn’t do that would they?

    2. Hansi, I will agree to a point……business is sitting on trillions waiting for something and I think it is the GOP to be victorious in 2012…..they are betting as lot on it and at the same time trying to cover their butts by supporting key Dems…..look for a post later about term limits….

      1. Yes. I think you’re basically right there, but then, as I’ve said many times before, what else would you expect them to do? The trouble is having politicians funded by big business… it’s almost bound to produce the result you have. 🙁

  2. Of course it’s not possible! Don’t be so silly! It’s actually probable almost to the point of certainty!

      1. I suppose it could, but it’s MUCH less likely since politicians are largely not funded by big money (not openly at least and they’re trown out if caught at that sort of game.

Labour certainly WOULD (in my opinion) do something like this (maybe others) but but the UK (BAD as it is) is MUCH more of a real democracy.

Sorry. Not being rude – just saying it as I see it. That said, most politicians are a bunch of liars, but the majority at least of Brits seem to be more aware of that fact.

      2. God! That sounds like a heavenly system….little big money involved in politics……damn if only! Brits are far smarter than their American cousins…I just wish Americans could pull their heads out of their butts…..

      3. I’m not saying there isn’t big money behind it all, of course there is – somewhere – but it’s much less direct and INDIVIDUAL candidates are NOT generally supported to any extent by outside money (in fact that could be seen as fraudulent), but by their party. Also, it’s because of the party system that the Prime Minister is simply the current leader of the PARTY that wins – unlike your President who is directly elected as “leader” (though often with little power to do anything).

Money may influence the party, but then the party has to manage to influence most of its own MPs and THAT is notoriously difficult even when it’s something completely above board that’s right and proper. Any whiff of corruption and the opposition start jerking off with glee.

    1. Welcome Auto……thanx for stopping by and please do not be a stranger………..I am with you…..someone that showed the guts to say it out loud….
