Daily Agitator
NO! I am NOT talking about that hip little country ditty that so many play at their gatherings…now that I have said that I cannot get that twangy little thing out of my head….we hear so many Americans claim it….but what do they mean? OK, this is a subjective term……and for that reason I would like to hear from my readers on what it means……I will give my thoughts and I will await yours…..
First of all….I think it is just a slogan or an idea that is appealing…..I want to hear what it is that people are proud of……..is it the education system….the health system……the way we treat each other…..or maybe it is our politics……could it be the politicians? Please just what are you proud of here in the US? Is it …just because? Is it our military?
Seriously….I want to hear what it that we are proud of here ……..and yes….it could well be a post in the future……..OK, personally, I am proud of the rights that we each have….even though there are some that want to take those rights away….I am proud of the founders for coming up with a system that, in theory is an excellent system, but since the founding it has become bastardized to look less and less like the system the fathers intended……..I am proud that we each have a choice in our lives, even though some choices are not popular with different sects……
Please…tell me…what is it about this country that makes one proud to be an American?

Why not Walmart? We could debate the attributes of Wally World….but that would be a lengthy and boring diatribe..

You know, in a funny sort of way, I quite like Berlusconi – he’s got more charisma than all of the rest of Europe’s pompous, self important leaders put together… 😉

More seriously since it’s a good post and perhaps deserves a bit more thought…
It would fill a book to go into the pros and cons of this in any detail, but in my view a nation, city, district, town, village, street and even down to a single household, has NOTHING if it doesn’t have pride in itself.
I wish the thickos of the PC brigade could get it into their stupid heads that there is nothing racist about being proud to be American, British (I just wish there was something to be proud OF there), or whatever.
Discrimination AGAINST someone solely because of race, on the other hand, is always RACIST, whilst being proud of who you are and your heritage is NOT and is actually a large part of what binds a community (of any size) together.
Good comment….and you are right…but then my point was to find what people think the question means…..I would like to hear the different responses….

Yup – there are lunatics everywhere! The difference is that, in Tenerife, people chased the asshole and he was caught.
The other thing is, of course, that it’s headline news in the Canaries, whereas in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and so on its just another daily, occasionally hourly, event.
Apparently the killer was a Bulgarian vagrant, or so local rumour has it. I wouldn’t be in his shoes tonight or over the coming days for all the money on the planet.
