Recently the dialog on immigration has returned to the airways, thanks in part to the passing of the new law in Arizona….we see so many in protest on one side or the other….you have heard all the rhetoric from both sides of the aisle….like illegal immigrants are taking jobs needed for Americans in this recession…will the last American out of Arizona please turn off the lights…..and so many more little placards used to lather up the protesters…..But is any of that true? I am posting on the economics of illegals and nothing else…..the economics of illegal immigration on the jobs market.

Study after study has shown that immigrants grow the economy, expanding demand for goods and services that the foreign-born workers and their families consume, and thereby creating jobs. There is even broad agreement among economists that while immigrants may push down wages for some, the overall effect is to increase average wages for American-born workers.
I have heard all the blame that is being passed around….it is NOTHING new……..was uttered during the Cubans arrival here and again when the South Vietnamese landed on our shores…..all the rhetoric being yelled is nothing but recycling from decades past. None of the predictions those anti-immigration folk came to be true…but yet the Right and some on the Left keep recycling BS from the past……get a new line….your present one is a bit tiresome……
Before I get the inevitable hate mail let me be clear….I believe that the immigration laws and techniques need to be updated and made more clear….but that ball is in the government’s court….and you know just how worthless that is……

We-eeell… there are undoubtedly instances when employers in the UK have used the EU “free movement of labour” laws to employ LEGAL foreign workers at lower rates for “good” jobs and then paid for their travel to the UK, but then there’s also the aspect of it that a lot of foreign workers simply work a lot harder and sometimes better than ordinary Brits. There are also a number of instances where basically crooked (labour) gang bosses use illegal labour and make them into virtual slaves – and even worse when it’s young women and girls… but then those things go on all over the world and I don’t think that’s what anyone is talking about here.
What Brits and Americans alike seem to me to refuse to face up to is that there are quite a lot of jobs that simply CANNOT pay the sort of wages that Brits and Americans are prepared to work for. Any talk of this almost instantly sparks wild statements about “minimum wages”, workers rights and greedy employers and loads of similar utter shit! But that just demonstrates those people’s ignorance of the real world and the ability to apply a little common sense.
I don’t expect such people to listen to me, because it requires that they should at least begin to face reality and they haven’t lived in the real world for close on a hundred years, so they’re not likely to start now, are they? Sure, some employers are greedy and some people are doing jobs where they work incredibly hard in return for a pittance of a wage – and most of those are immigrants – often illegal immigrants because they can’t really complain to the authorities, can they?
However, if you get rid of the immigrants the rates won’t (as some idiots believe) magically go up because reality dictates that a job is worth what it’s worth and it’s absolutely NO BLOODY GOOD at all bitching about employers should pay more, etc., etc. The employer pays what he or she feels the business can afford. If you don’t want to work for that, don’t take the f*cking job in the first place! BUT (and this is where reality strikes most of these whingers right between the eyes) if that employer can’t get the labour at a rate they believe makes it worthwhile running the business, they WILL close the damned business, or they will go bankrupt with exactly the same result! So NO ONE will have the jobs involved and NO ONE will have the products/services previously offered by that business.
If people will not accept that fact, then ordinary Brits and Americans are going to have to learn to live without, MacDonalds, Burger King, a whole lot of cheaper end bars and restaurants, hotels and motels that anyone will be prepared to pay for, the foreign visitors that would have stayed in those hotels and all the MONEY they would have spent in the country and a VAST number of other jobs and services provided by businesses that are simply not viable if Brits and Americans insisted THEY should have those jobs and be paid at THEIR idea of what the job SHOULD be worth – even though it just plain ISN’T!
On top of that, most Brits and Americans don’t even WANT to do those jobs at ANY price, so what the hell are they bitching about?
It has been a BIG sticking point that the “illegals” are taking jobs from Americans…..not from what I have seen….Americans do not want the jobs they would rather be the CEO of Walmart……I have NO idea what they are bitching about……here it is veiled racism….but they are just too cowardly to admit….
Yeah… just another load of BS really, but too many people believe, dont they? Sad, eh?
