The Mitt-ster Reinvents

2012 Election Series

Mitt Romney has a new book….they ALL have a new book…it is the best way to get overexposed on the tube….something ALL politicians want and need….

Many pundits are having a hard trying to decide if Mitt will enter the primaries for 2012…..some say he will wait for the 2010 election results before he makes up his mind….but in my mind, he already has made up his mind…..I think he will wait for the Fall elections to make up his mind where he will be on the scale…..whether a moderate or a radical rightists…..

Why do I make such a statement…well it is obvious, at least to me….

At different times Romney has supported, then opposed, abortion rights; he’s been a moderate, a populist, a stalwart of the Religious Right, and a gun-control opponent. With many of those stances out of style, he is now an Obama-bashing hawk. Underneath all those labels is an ambitious and accomplished person.

He WILL campaign for the Repub nomination and at the time of this writing, is the best for the job……but he will have to overcome the fact that his MA health plan, signed by him, is very similar to the plan the prez just signed……he will have to re-invent himself and distance himself from the plan that he signed…..I still see Mitt taking a hard right turn……

Last time he had to address his Mormonism…..will it be an issue the next time he runs?….

Mitt will run in 2012….and Mitt is right now the hands on fav….but all that can change with the right message…..does Mitt have it in him to sh*t can his principles for the sake of the nomination?  I say he does……..

National Financial Literacy Month

Today is the first day of April ….and NO this is NOT an April Fools post….it really is National Financial Literacy month……I personally think this is a good idea because the American people are the dumbest I have found on economic and financial issues…they need all the help they can get and I cannot wait to see just what types of education the people will receive….

I would like to help in their education on economics and finance……

All the people need to know is….if it sounds too good to be true, then it mostly like is……there you go…all you need to survive in this world of economic scams….

One last thing….if your economic strategy is motivated by greed, then you will NEVER learn a valuable lesson!

Side Note:  In case you were considering a visit to the theater to see “How To Drain Your Dragon”…..Done!…..it is a cartoon about training a dragon, not a potty training movie…….I should have known when I realized it was Train not Drain…..(always with a little humor)

Who Is Responsible?

Daily Agitator

By now we all have heard the horror stories of teens that have committed suicide because of the bullying they were taking in school, on-line and on the phone….the most recent one was in Mass.

The death of Phoebe Prince, 15, a sophomore at South Hadley High School allegedly occurred because of extreme Internet bullying by female classmates who were upset Prince, who had recently moved from Ireland, was dating a senior football player.

The girl had been verbal abused by other students, she had been haunted on her cel and on-line and she took all she could stand and she snapped and hung herself in a closet in her home and was found by her younger sister…..this is not a new thing….it has happened all across the US and in Canada and I would imagine just about everywhere….it is not unique to the US.

Now some of the parents are saying that the school officials were aware of the problem but did little to stop it……parents are saying that their kids could not do such a horrible thing to a classmate…..and then there is the parents…..

Let me see it is not the kids fault or the parents but rather the school officials……it is nobody’s fault…..so nobody is responsible is that about it?  It just happened for no good reason, eh?  Typical American crap!  We scream that everybody has a personal responsibility…..everybody but me, that is……This situation illustrates just how f*cked up the whole view of personal responsibility is……my conservative friends are always harping on the personal responsibility thing, but I guess that only applies to others……

Who is responsible?  Everybody in the chain….the school officials, if they knew and did little…parents for letting their children act in such a way and the kids are directly responsible because they took it upon themselves to torment another person for no other good reason than she was cute and possibly because she was a transplant from Ireland……because of a petty jealousy.  We are raising children to be proud of……..

If you are so damn concerned with “personal responsibility” then it is YOUR fault….why?…..because you turn a blind eye to situations and look for someone to blame for your failings……so much for your personal responsibility stand…..

A Blast From The Past

Professor’s Classroom

Subject:  Political Philosophy/Political Analysis

I always try and inform as well as educate…..with that I mind I would like to go back to my days of Grad school  back in the Dark Ages……there are many happenings in the world of political analysis, especially by the media and its pundits, that seem to over look some of the theories from the days of old to explain what is happening in the world of Washington politics……It seems analyst today make the whole process of political thought way more complicated than it really is…….I will attempt to help clarify some of the happenings….

First there is the Rational Ignorance Effect (RIE),,,,,,,,

Ignorance about an issue is said to be “rational” when the cost of educating oneself about the issue sufficiently to make an informed decision can outweigh any potential benefit one could reasonably expect to gain from that decision, and so it would be irrational to waste time doing so. This has consequences for the quality of decisions made by large numbers of people, such as general elections, where the probability of any one vote changing the outcome is very small.

Basically, it is the art of allowing someone else to tell you what is important to you and then vote on it without ever checking the issue and solution out…..Lazy would be a good description..

Second is the Paradox of Voting……also called Downs paradox, is that for a rational, self-interested voter the costs of voting will normally exceed the expected benefits. Because the chance of exercising a decisive vote (i.e. in case of a tied election) is tiny compared to any realistic estimate of the private individual benefits of the different possible outcomes, the expected benefits of voting are less than the costs. The fact that people do vote is a major problem for public choice theory, first observed by Anthony Downs.

However, this implies that voting choices are unlikely to reflect the self-interest of voters, as is normally assumed in public choice theory, i.e., rational behavior is restricted to the instrumental as opposed to the intrinsic value of actions.

Third in my list is the Impossibilities Theorem……

Arrow’s impossibility theorem, or Arrow’s paradox, demonstrates that no voting system can convert the ranked preferences of individuals into a community-wide ranking while also meeting a certain set of criteria with three or more discrete options to choose from.

A common way “around” the paradox is limiting the alternative set to two alternatives. Thus, whenever more than two alternatives should be put to the test, it seems very tempting to use a mechanism that pairs them and votes by pairs.   The specific order by which the pairs are decided strongly influences the outcome.

A bit high brow but as simple as psossible the more choices that voters have to worse decision they make…..

Fourth is ”argumentum ad populum”…..In Logic, a proposition to be true because many or all people believe it; it alleges, “If many believe so, it is so.“  This is a common practice today…the media and opposition politicians have been using this technique to win elections…..Polls are the prime way that pundits use to influence the voter….so it boils down to the fact that if they say it long enough, it becomes truth…..

Fifth, is my final tactic that one needs to be aware of…….or the “yuck factor”, describes the belief that an intuitive (or “deep-seated”) negative response to some thing, idea or practice should be interpreted as evidence for the intrinsically harmful or evil character of that thing. Furthermore, it refers to the notion that wisdom may manifest itself in feelings of disgust towards anything which lacks goodness or wisdom, though the feelings or the reasoning of such ‘wisdom’ may not be immediately explicable through reason.

An excellent tactic and being used prolifically by the Repubs in their battle against health reform…..pick an issue, any issue and watch the rhetoric closely and you will find at least one of the above “old school” tactics at work…
