Are The Iraqis Ready?

Good question and according to Bush they are and are doing a good job in Basra, leading the fight against the Shi’a extremists and gangs.  But the truth is that it is US airpower and the Special Forces that are making the difference.  Without that assitence the Iraqi army would be in deep manure.

What does this really mean?  well without air support the Iraqis will need the US for the next generation or so to keep the dream alive, at least Bush’s dream, that is.  That also means that the US will be in Iraq and dying for a long time—no matter who is president.

Happy now?!?

All Is Well In Iraq

I listened to your prez the other day about just how well the war is going.  He cited that the Iraqi government has allowed ex-Ba’athists to return to government service.  I found that a bit humorous.  It was Bush’s butt boy, Paul Bremer, that made it a no-no to be a Ba’athist.  But now it is a good idea–do-do–it was a stupid idea to eliminate them in the first place.  This whole scenario of success might have been done a lot quicker if someone had thought it over first.  Anyway does anyone really know what a Ba’athist is?

                                                WHAT IS A BA’ATHIST?

If you geek out on news, especially news from Iraq, then by now, you should know the difference between a Sunni and a Shi’a………..(waiting.  tapping fingers.  waiting)  Ok, maybe now…(waiting)  CRAP!  Ok, basically, the difference is the shi’a believe that the leadership of the religion of Islam must be lead by a direct descendent of Mohammed, Sunnis do not.  Now, that is the simplistic definition.  Can you dig it? (yawn).  Let us move on…since the US has put troops into the Iraqi countryside, we, the news hounds, have been bombarded with term after term after term.  I just want to hel[p those people understand just a small bit of what is what.  That way if they are against the war or for, they will have at least a small bit of knowledge..

My favorite part of the whole Iraqi thing has been the end of the war when the US was doing the de-ba’athifacation of the Iraqi army, that is trying to purge any loyal Saddamists from the army and police.  Saddam was the leader of the Iraqi Baa’th Party and controlled all the army and police in the country which was a marvelous idea, once they did that, there were no experienced military or PD people and then we decided to train some to take their place.  Now there is a plan that went absolutely nowhere.  The trained people are barely adequate and that is at best.

Then one of the mental midgets in Washington had an epiphany.  And what was it—do tell!  They said why not re-Ba’athify the army and the PD.  Good plan, dill-hole!  The US and its Iraqi counterparts would find some Ba’ath Party members and reintergrate them into Iraqi services.  It is just amazing how perceptive these morons are.  What a plan, I am thoroughly impressed.  NOT!

Now I will bet you are asking, What the hell is a Ba’athist?  Well in Iraq, in 1952 the Arab Socialist Party was formed by Rikabi.  All Ba’athists parties and there were many across the Arab world in the 1950’s, were pan-Arab or super nationalist.  This was possibly the last time that shi’a and sunni agreed on anything.  All Ba’athists were anti-Brit and pro-Arab.  The Ba’athists were not really for the common person their goals were all self-serving.  Even though they were called a socialist party they held very few socialist ideals.  Look at Saddam he was more fascist than socialist.  Their main concerns were the overthrow of any all pro-Brit leaders and to assume power for themselves and I do mean — themselves.

So, now the US wants to reintergrate Ba’ahists into the government–what are they thinking?  Let me see if I have this about right–We want to give people who are self-serving and despise us the reins to the army and police.  Is that about right?  We want to re-arm them and give them training in military ops–and why do we want to do this?  Does anyone know what a coup is?  Can they spell it?  Can they not see how much in error this plan is?  If and when, Iraq is ever a peaceful country and life returns to somewhat of a norm; they have created another Saddam and his policies and they will be waiting for the proper time,  And when they take over all eyes may turn to the morons in Washington and thank them for the return to chaos.

I have witnessed a lot of mis-cues and blunders in my years of political analysis but this bone head move is by far the most moronic, stupid and unintgelligent decision I have ever witnessed.  How do they do it?  And to beat all, they get paid really well for stupidity.  I could not have pulled this much stupidity out of my ass on my dumbest day.

Where do they find these people?  Never mind

Daylight Savings Time

What a magnificent con job this is! It is to help save energy and to assist people with more time for family activities. Do you buy this?

Residential electricity usage increased between 1% and 4%, amounting to $8.6 million a year.
Social costs from increased emissions were estimated at between $1.6 million and $5.3 million per year

These are just the most obvious of the “benefits” of the daylight saving times. There are NO benefits, with the except of those to businesses like Exxon and such. Please someone wake up and do the right thing. Let time be time…you are saving NOTHING by this damn silly activity.

Political Quote Of The Week

One of the people that I most admire said this and it is true, there is no principles in politics with the exception of getting elected.

There are many men of principle in both parties in America, but there is no party of principle.
Alexis de Tocqueville

I would agree somewhat with him, but the men of principle seldom get elected. And the parties are more concerned with beating each other in the elections than making life better for the people. Sad!

Earth Hour

I am posting this on several of my many blogs. I just want to try and help the movement as much as I can. Since the media is ignoring this silent protest, I thought I would try and get it out there a bit.

The World Wildlife Fund said millions of people in the United States and around the globe will turn off or dim their lights Saturday in support of Earth Hour.

The event, designed as a statement about climate change, will roll through 14 time zones at 8 p.m. Saturday night, starting in Christchurch, New Zealand, and wrapping up in San Francisco.

Some of the tallest buildings in the United States, including the John Hancock Building in Chicago and the Bank of America Plaza in Atlanta, will turn off their lights. The Chicago Cubs, San Francisco Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks will turn off select non-essential lighting on the exterior of their stadiums and arenas and McDonald’s will turn off its golden arches in the Chicago area, WWF said in a release.

Help them as much as possible, there is already enough people ignoring the fact that the planet is DYING!

It’s The Economy, Stupid–Part……?

Gee in the last week everybody and his brother has made a major speech on the economy.  Finally, they are noticing.  But one is a pep rally, with few specifics and the few that are given are so vague that they can be adjusted to anything and still be within the lame promises.  then there is another candidate that has the position of just wait and see what will happen.  Now there is a plan that we all can get behind.  And the last one was a pretty good speech that outlined several ways to try a repair a failing economy and it was about the first time that the word “recession” has been used in a major speech by a major candidate.  That part was refreshing.

Everyone still embraces the corporate line, where if business is doing good then the people will do good.  I am not going to say that.  If the consumer cannot buy then the economy will stay weak.  If they are only concerned with the investors and speculators then the economy will be good.  At least through their eyes, but the American taxpayer will remain in the crapper.

I want to hear specifics on how these candidates are going to put more money in the hands of consumers.  Until that happens nothing they do, promise or think will help this sagging economy.
