The Death Of Diplomacy

Since Donny took office…the US has threatened Canada and Greenland, allowed the genocide in Gaza and the theft in the West Bank to go unchecked and now is trying to involve the nation in the stupidity that Israel has wrought.

What has happened to diplomacy?

The art of negotiation to settle international conflicts has died and it began with the Trump’s first try at world domination with some random oil guy in charge the came Biden and his SecState Blinken who was more warmonger than anything and now we have Rubio under the second Trump directorate…. in essence diplomacy is no longer and option on the world stage.

This brings us to today’s State Department under the ‘leadership’ of Rubio and under his hand the department is dying slowly on the whims of the self-promoter Donny.

There is no more important or prestigious cabinet position than the secretary of state. The first secretaries included such luminaries as Thomas Jefferson, John Marshall, James Madison, James Monroe, John Quincy Adams, and Henry Clay. All became presidents or almost reached the presidency. In contemporary times, secretaries of state included Henry Stimson, George Marshall, Dean Acheson, Henry Kissinger, Colin Powell, and John Kerry. More recent secretaries have been less competent or successful (Rex Tillerson, Mike Pompeo), but no one has been more pathetic than the current secretary, Marco Rubio, who has embarrassed the country, the Department of State, and particularly himself in the first 100 days of the Trump presidency.

Rubio has made the Department of State virtually irrelevant, playing no role in key negotiations involving wars between Russia and Ukraine as well as between Israel and the Palestinians. Rubio is not participating in the sensitive talks between the United States and Iran to restore the Iran nuclear agreement. All of these matters are being handled by a billionaire real-estate developer, Steve Witkoff, who has no experience or knowledge in dealing with any of these issues. But Witkoff is worth $2 billion, and presumably Trump felt that clinching real estate deals is good training for crafting complicated international agreements.

Witkoff has met with Russian President Vladimir Putin four times in the past several months, but the Russian bombardment against Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital, has only increased in that period. We know very little about Witkoff’s experiences in these meetings, but we do know that Trump falsely believes that Putin has made key “concessions.” The first concession, according to Trump, is that Putin will be “stopping the war.” The second is even more risible: Putin has agreed “not to take the whole country.” Even before the Putin-Witkoff talks, Trump endorsed Putin’s key demands: “Crimea will stay with Russia,” and Ukraine “will never be able to join NATO.”

You will noticed that Rubio and his master Donny have little to say about the conflict in Sudan or the total ethnic cleansing of Gaza….these should be high on the list of things to spotlight but instead Rubio is bust illustrating just how incompetent he is and nods approval for everything ignorant from Donny’s mouth.

Rubio is suppose to be America’s top diplomat and instead he allows Vance and Donny to speak for him.

When he took office he stated that it was to promote national interests….that is not his job.  He said that “to advance our national interest, we will build a more innovative, nimble, and focused State Department. This will require replacing some priorities, deemphasizing some issues, and eliminating some practices.”

Rubio has also called for a return to traditional diplomacy, deemphasizing what he views as divisive political and cultural causes. He has pledged to combat censorship and protect free speech, while also reprioritizing truth. On the environmental front, Rubio has promised to support sensible environmental protections while using diplomacy to advance American energy dominance.

He has done none of that lame ass promises….

Diplomacy is an instrument of power. It is essential for maintaining effective international relationships, and a principal means by which the United States defends its interests, responds to crises, and achieves its foreign policy goals.

Read more of the mission of the state department….https://2009-2017.state.gov/s/d/rm/rls/perfrpt/2002/html/18942.htm

For over a century the yes of the world have been on the US and now under the leadership of Rubio and his clueless master the US is going from global domination to global irrelevancy….

As the titular leader of this group of MAGA misfits, Trump projects a “transactional” approach to international diplomacy, which he wants to use to replace the American strategy for building global peace that the US adopted after World War II and that has succeeded remarkably since then in avoiding major conflict in a nuclear armed world.

Trump’s theory holds that the United States should forget about the rest of the world, and that we should avoid engaging in any action unless a maximum payment in cold cash can be exacted in exchange. Trump sees America’s traditional efforts to secure and guarantee world peace and eliminate global poverty as nothing less than an invitation to be taken for a sucker.

Previous administrations, Trump believes, were weak fools enabling the rest of the world to take advantage of American generosity. It makes no difference to Trump that the US profited enormously by its investments in Europe, or that helping emerging Third World nations opened access for American products to global markets and increased American influence in practically every corner of the planet. Sure, the US gained unprecedented stature as the world’s most powerful economy, but Trump thinks we should have asked for more.

While turning the US from a promoter of human rights and abandoning America’s role as a committed supporter of global free-market capitalism, Trump wants to go back to a world in which “might makes right,” and in which the powerful do as they want, while the less fortunate are left to do as they must.

Trump’s Chaos Moving America From Global Dominance Toward Global Irrelevance

In conclusion American diplomacy is dying a slow death and the “America First” agenda that Rubio so hardily embraced just may be that proverbial final nail in the coffin.

The Nanoscopic Mind Of Little Marco

From his nomination I thought that Rubio, aka Little Marco, was probably one of the worse people to work at the State Department…..w2hile in the Senate he did not demonstrate any inkling of diplomatic fervor rather he was a war hawk which as NO place as the head of what is supposedly the US top diplomatic agency.

Once in office he did whatever he was told to do like cutting staff, especially experienced diplomats, closing international outreach programs like US Aid, etc….he has even created a new office…..the Office of Remigration….and it smells like the usual BS from a Donny sycophant….

The State Department under Secretary Marco Rubio is undergoing a major reorg, and out of that dust has emerged an apparent new subdivision: the “Office of Remigration,” which an agency official says will fall under the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration, per Axios. The new office, first reported on by the Handbasket, is one of three new offices in the bureau that will “shift focus towards supporting the administration’s efforts to return illegal aliens to their country of origin or legal status,” per a 136-page document sent to Congress on the restructured State Department.

The Office of Remigration is drawing attention not just for its ostensible purpose, but also for its name, as the term “remigration” is one that’s been wielded by the far right in Europe to mean booting nonwhite immigrants out of nations there, including by Germany’s AfD party. President Trump himself has used the term online, as has White House aide Stephen Miller, widely believed to be the mastermind behind much of the Trump administration’s immigration policy. “It’s outrageous,” Wendy Via, CEO and president of the Global Project Against Hate and Extremism, tells Wired. “There is no hiding from the fact that the ultimate goal of ‘remigration’ is purely about ethnic cleansing.”

The White House disagrees. “President Trump is keeping his promise to deport illegal aliens, and the American people are hugely supportive of his agenda,” a spokesperson tells Wired. Much more here from that outlet, which takes a closer look at the “remigration” blueprint disseminated overseas by Martin Sellner, an Austrian right-winger said to be “the man most responsible for promoting the idea of remigration across the globe.”

Little Marco is an amateur that does nothing of his own mind….instead he waits for direction from Donny and the Merry Band of Ignorants.

Marco Rubio is the uber-mensch of the Trump administration.  He is the secretary of state, the acting national security adviser, the acting director of (what’s left) of the Agency for International Development, and the acting director of the National Archives.  His only full-time job has never been performed by a secretary of state, canceling visas for international students and making sure that migrants are sent to horrific prisons in El Salvador or the South Sudan where a civil war is taking place.  He has even targeted a group of Venezuelan migrants who were given legal status by the Biden administration.  Nearly every Rubio decision on immigration matters has been illegal, and he presumably knows these decisions are illegal.  Nearly every decision has been blocked or challenged in federal courts.

After his confirmation in January, Rubio began his campaign to cancel visas for at least 1,500 international students.  The secretary of state has the power to cancel such visas, but Rubio is the first secretary of state to do so.  Rubio has no interest in defending the free speech rights of students; he maintains that anyone who associates with protestors should not attend a U.S. university.  This week, he ordered U.S. embassies and consulates to stop student visa applications, which will give the Trump administration time to issue even more restrictions.

These worthless amateurs are doing more damage to America’s long standing programs to keep the world a better place….and is doing NOTHING to Make America Great Again….

The sooner we flush these tools down a toilet the sooner the US can become a world leader again.

It is that simple.

US Will Decide On Ukraine Peace

More frightening news out of Little Marco’s State Department…..concerning any peace deal between Ukraine and Russia….

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that President Donald Trump will decide if ending the war in Ukraine is possible sometime in the coming days.

“We’re not going to continue with this endeavor for weeks and months on end. So we need to determine very quickly now, and I’m talking about a matter of days, whether or not this is doable in the next few weeks,” Rubio told reporters in Paris.

President Trump made ending the war in Ukraine one of his top campaign promises. Since taking office in January, his staff has engaged in several rounds of high-level talks with Russian and Ukrainian officials.

“The president feels very strongly about that. He has dedicated a lot of time and energy to this… this is important, but there are a lot of other really important things going on that deserve just as much, if not more attention,” Rubio said.

Trump and Rubio have stated that Russia is not engaging quickly enough in the diplomatic process. The president and secretary of state have both threatened new sanctions on Russia in recent weeks if the Kremlin does not agree to a deal to end the conflict very soon.

Moscow appears to be unwilling to accelerate the pace of talks on ending the war in Ukraine. Earlier this week, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the issue was “so complex that it’s unrealistic to expect immediate results.”

Following the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, US-Russian relations sank to a historic low point, with almost no contact between Washington and Russia during that period. Early rounds of talks between US and Russian officials focused on returning to a normal diplomatic relationship.

While Trump and Rubio have placed blame on Moscow for the lack of progress towards a peace deal, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has publicly declared that Kiev would not surrender any territory to bring the war to an end.

Additionally, Kiev is moving closer to signing a deal to allow Washington to recapture some of the money spent on Ukraine aid by seizing profits from sales of oil, gas and rare earth minerals. A top Ukrainian official said a memorandum of intent was signed on Thursday, and the deal is expected to be inked next week.

It’s unclear if the arrangement includes security guarantees for Ukraine, but Rubio told reporters the issue came up during his talks in Paris.

(antiwar.com)

The US will decide?  The war is between Ukraine and Russia the US has NO right to determine what or when the war will end….that is for the two combatants to decide all the US should be doing is offering any assistance they may need to come to a peaceful conclusion of their hostilities.

If Zelenskyy (why two ‘yy’ s?) had any balls he would tell the US to sit and stay out of the process.

But he owes too much to the West for him to assert himself like that.

So there you have it….the US decides who and when they will fight.

Kinda pathetic in my book.

Then there is a report that Putin may be willing to halt the invasion….

The Financial Times reported on Wednesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin was willing to halt his invasion of Ukraine across the current frontlines to reach a peace deal with President Trump.

If true, the position would mark a significant concession from Russia, which has maintained that any peace deal must include the recognition of the four Ukrainian Oblasts it has annexed as part of Russia, including territory that’s not under Russian control.

The Financial Times report said that Putin made the offer during recent talks with President Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, in St. Petersburg earlier this month. After the meeting, Witkoff said he believed a peace deal was possible.

The Washington Post reported on Tuesday that the US has made a proposal to Ukraine and its European allies on a potential ceasefire deal that would involve freezing the battle lines and the US recognizing Crimea as part of Russia. The peninsula has been under Russian control since 2014.

European and Ukrainian officials are expected to meet and discuss the US proposal on Wednesday. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Tuesday that Ukraine would never recognize Crimea as Russian, signaling he may not support the US proposal.

Zelensky also said that he would be willing to negotiate directly with Russia if a ceasefire was reached. His comments came after Putin suggested he was ready for direct talks with the Ukrainians.

What back door promises are being made to Putin for this change of heart?

Is this something or is it just a delaying tactic?

What kind of deal did Putin and Trump come to?

Is the NATO thing the fire that made Putin perk up?

The Kremlin said on Monday that Moscow welcomed statements from US officials that ruled out Ukrainian entry into NATO.

“We have heard statements made at various levels in Washington that Ukraine’s NATO membership is ruled out. This is something that brings us satisfaction and aligns with our stance,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, according to TASS.

Several high-level Trump administration officials, including President Trump himself, have said that any peace deal to end the war in Ukraine would not involve Ukrainian membership in NATO.

Russia sought a guarantee from the US that Ukraine wouldn’t join NATO before it launched its invasion in February 2022, but the Biden administration refused to engage with Moscow on the issue. During short-lived peace talks in March and April of 2022, which were discouraged by the US, Russia’s main demand was for Ukrainian neutrality.

What The Hell Is State Doing?

First of all the 20th of April cam and went and the predicted declaration of martial law did not materialize…..I am not saying it will not just not on the day all seem to think for obvious reasons.

By State I mean the department of state, our diplomatic portion of any government….they are suppose to support American citizens and further the pursuit of democracy and human rights…..

It appears the Trump Administration in its dislike of brown people is remaking the the direction of the US in the continent of Africa.

That Magic Sharpie is ready for action….

A preliminary version of a White House executive order outlines sweeping changes to the State Department, including the near-total removal of its operations in Africa and the closure of numerous embassies and consulates throughout the continent.

The proposal also recommends eliminating departments within the State Department’s main offices that focus on climate change – an area where Trump’s change of the law could have ‘seismic impacts’ – refugee matters and the promotion of democracy and human rights and comes amid a tense global trade environment after Trump’s tariffs, which have caused friction with China.

The purpose of the order – which could be signed by President Trump later this week – is to undertake “a disciplined reorganization” of the State Department in an attempt to “streamline mission delivery.” As reported by The New York Times, the 16-page document aims to cut “waste, fraud and abuse” and is due to be enacted by October 1. Trump was also branded the ‘dumbest president ever’ following a shocking 6-word geography comment.

The proposed executive order seeks to abolish the foreign service entrance exam for prospective diplomats and introduces a revised set of qualifications for recruitment. Any new employees would have to have an “alignment with the president’s foreign policy vision.”

According to current and former U.S. officials familiar with the plans, the signing of the executive order would be followed by a push to dismiss both foreign service officers—who serve as career diplomats—and civil service staff, typically based at the department’s Washington headquarters. They noted that the process would involve placing many employees on paid administrative leave and issuing termination notices.

The draft suggests changes to the department, including “policy development and review” and “operational planning,” as well as embracing artificial intelligence technology. However, the New York Times reports that elements of the draft could change before President Trump signs it into effect.

Not to worry the Little Donny and his butt licking lackey and SecState are going a bit further with the rest of the world….

  • Canada: A new North American affairs office would oversee operations in Canada, and the embassy in Ottawa would become much smaller. A “significantly reduced team” would run the North American office, which would be supervised by the secretary of state.
  • Issues: Bureaus handling democracy and human rights, and refugees and migration would be eliminated. There would no longer be a special envoy for climate or undersecretary of public diplomacy and public affairs.
  • Staff cuts: Buyouts would be offered to foreign service and civil service officers. Layoffs would begin, as well, and a large number of employees would be placed on paid leave.
  • Hiring: The State Department would drop its foreign service exam. New criteria for recruiting would include “alignment with the president’s foreign policy vision.”

Diplomats who have read the draft said they don’t see the logic behind it, per Politico. One said, “There’s a lot that could be reformed, but you could give infinite monkeys infinite typewriters, and they would come up with something better than that.”

I like the ‘monkeys’ thing.

In other words replace experienced diplomats and academics with amateurs that will blindly do as they are told.

Seriously?

Is writing off an entire continent really a good idea or alienating the rest of the world a goods idea?

Would this not open the continent for China/Russia to move in and take command of this region?

Amateurs and idiots!

These dumb asses are crapping on everything the United States has accomplished in 250 years.

Why do they hate the world so much?

How much further will these d/bags go?

Let’s not forget that Little Marco wants employees of State to pimp on anyone that illustrates anti-Christian bias (shades of East Germany’s Stasi)….as if any religious opinion should anything to do with their, employees, ability to do their job.

What the Hell is going on at State?

Thoughts?

‘Little Marco’ Takes Charge

The new admin waddling into DC faces many international challenges….the situation in Ukraine….terrible relations with Russia….the the financing of the death and destruction in the Middle East and the slowly deteriorating relations with China and what does the new SecState do on his fist trip? He goes to Panama to attempt bullying that nation on the Canal.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio told Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino on Sunday that the Central American ally must immediately reduce Chinese influence over the Panama Canal area or face potential retaliation from the Trump administration. Mulino said later that “there is no real threat of retaking the canal or the use of force,” the AP reports. Rubio, on his first foreign trip as America’s top diplomat, held face-to-face talks in Panama City with Mulino, who has resisted pressure from President Trump over Panama’s management of the waterway that is vital to global trade.

Speaking on behalf of Trump, who has demanded that the canal be returned to US control, Rubio told Mulino that Trump had made a preliminary determination that China’s presence in the canal area violates a treaty that led to the US turning the waterway over to Panama in 1999. That treaty calls for the permanent neutrality of the American-built canal. “Secretary Rubio made clear that this status quo is unacceptable and that absent immediate changes, it would require the United States to take measures necessary to protect its rights under the treaty,” the State Department said in a summary of the meeting.

“I don’t feel like there’s a real threat against the treaty and its validity,” Mulino said. He called it a “good-faith meeting” that was respectful and positive and held “to clear up doubts.” Mulino acknowledged that China’s role in the ports at either end of the canal has raised concerns with Trump. But the president said that the consortium controlling them was being audited and that the canal authority would give Rubio a more detailed explanation. Mulino did say Panama would not be renewing its agreement with China’s Belt and Road Initiative when it expires, per the AP.

Is this what the world’s foremost diplomat will spend his valuable time doing?

Trivial bullshit.

But what can we expect from a bunch of unqualified bootlickers?

Henry Kissinger Dead

The former NatSec adviser and former Sectary of State has died….

Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, the diplomat with the thick glasses and gravelly voice who dominated foreign policy as the United States extricated itself from Vietnam and broke down barriers with China, died Wednesday, his consulting firm said. He was 100, reports the AP. With his gruff yet commanding presence and behind-the-scenes manipulation of power, Kissinger exerted uncommon influence on global affairs under Presidents Nixon and Ford, earning both vilification and the Nobel Peace Prize. Decades later, his name still provoked impassioned debate over foreign policy landmarks long past.

A nice generic obit….

But there was more to his tenure than the niceties that the MSM wants you to know….his tenure was more about death and war than it was the BS spread by a warmongering press and analysts….

Do not speak ill of the dead. That’s an honorable admonition. But what of the truth? When a person dies, should he be remembered accurately? That question is acutely posed by the demise of Henry Kissinger. The veteran diplomat passed away on Wednesday at the age of 100, leaving behind a long legacy that includes such highs as the opening to China, as well as foul deeds that resulted in mayhem and death—thousands and thousands of deaths. His obituaries will be filled with hosannas from the foreign policy establishment that hailed him as the wisest of wise men. Unfortunately, those who were slaughtered in part due to his global gamesmanship are not able to comment on his contribution to international affairs.

(Mother Jones)

Thanx to Mother Jones let’s look at the blood on his hands….

Cambodia: In early 1969, shortly after Nixon moved into the White House and inherited the Vietnam War, he, Kissinger, and others cooked up a plan to secretly bomb Cambodia, in pursuit of enemy camps. With the perversely-named “Operation Breakfast” launched, White House chief of staff H.R. “Bob” Haldeman wrote in his diary, Kissinger and Nixon were “really excited.” The action, though, was of dubious legality; the United States was not at war with Cambodia and Congress had not authorized the carpet-bombing, which Nixon tried to keep a secret. The US military dropped 540,000 tons of bombs. They didn’t just hit enemy outposts. The estimates of Cambodian civilians killed range between 150,000 and 500,000.

Bangladesh: In 1970, a political party advocating autonomy for East Pakistan won legislative elections. The military dictator ruling Pakistan, Gen. Agha Muhammad Yahya Khan, arrested the leader of that party and ordered his army to crush the Bengalis. At the time, Yahya, a US ally, was helping Kissinger and Nixon establish ties with China, and they didn’t want to get in his way. The top US diplomat in East Pakistan sent in a cable detailing and decrying the atrocities committed by Yahya’s troops and reported they were committing “genocide.” Yet Nixon and Kissinger declined to criticize Yahya or take action to end the barbarous assault. (This became known as “the tilt” toward Pakistan.) Kissinger and Nixon turned a blind eye to—arguably, they tacitly approved—Pakistan’s genocidal slaughter of 300,000 Bengalis, most of them Hindus.

Chile: Nixon and Kissinger plotted to covertly thwart the democratic election of socialist president Salvador Allende in 1970. This included Kissinger supervising clandestine operations aimed at destabilizing Chile and triggering a military coup. This scheming yielded the assassination of Chile’s commander-in-chief of the Army. Eventually, a military junta led by Gen. Augusto Pinochet seized power, killed thousands of Chileans, and implemented a dictatorship. Following the coup, Kissinger backed Pinochet to the hilt. During a private conversation with the Chilean tyrant in 1976, he told Pinochet, “My evaluation is that you are a victim of all left-wing groups around the world and that your greatest sin was that you overthrew a government which was going communist.”

East Timor: In December 1975, President Suharto of Indonesia was contemplating an invasion of East Timor, which had recently been a Portuguese colony and was moving toward independence. On December 6, President Gerald Ford and Kissinger, then Ford’s secretary of state, en route from a visit to Beijing, stopped in Jakarta to meet with Suharto, who headed the nation’s military regime. Suharto signaled he intended to send troops into East Timor and integrate the territory into Indonesia. Ford and Kissinger did not object. Ford told Suharto, “We will understand and will not press you on the issue. We understand the problem and the intentions you have.” Kissinger added, “It is important that whatever you do succeeds quickly.” He pointed out that Suharto would be wise to wait until Ford and Kissinger returned to the United States, where they “would be able to influence the reaction in America.” The invasion began the next day. Here was a “green light” from Kissinger (and Ford). Suharto’s brutal invasion of East Timor resulted in 200,000 deaths.

Argentina: In March 1976, a neofascist military junta overthrew President Isabel Perón and launched what would be called the Dirty War, torturing, disappearing, and killing political opponents it branded as terrorists. Once again, Kissinger provided a “green light,” this time to a campaign of terror and murder. He did so during a private meeting in June 1976 with the junta’s foreign minister, Cesar Augusto Guzzetti. At that sit-down, according to a memo obtained in 2004 by the National Security Archive, a nonprofit organization, Guzzetti told Kissinger, “our main problem in Argentina is terrorism.” Kissinger replied, “If there are things that have to be done, you should do them quickly.” In other words, go ahead with your savage crusade against the leftists. The Dirty War would claim the lives of an estimated 30,000 Argentine civilians.

Throughout his career in government and politics, Kissinger was an unprincipled schemer who engaged in multiple acts of skullduggery. During the 1968 presidential campaign, while he advised the Johnson administration’s team at the Paris peace talks, which were aimed at ending the Vietnam War, he underhandedly passed information on the talks to Nixon’s camp, which was plotting to sabotage the negotiations, out of fear that success at the talks would boost the prospects of Vice President Hubert Humphrey, Nixon’s opponent in the race. After the secret bombing in Cambodia was revealed by the New York Times, Kissinger, acting at Nixon’s request, urged FBI director J. Edgar Hoover to wiretap his own aides and journalists to discover who was leaking. This operation failed to uncover who had outed the covert bombing, but, as historian Garrett Graff noted in his recent book, Watergate: A New History, this effort seeded “the administration’s taste for spying on its enemies—real or imagined.”

In 1976, Kissinger was briefed on Operation Condor, a secret program created by the intelligence services of the military dictatorships of South America to assassinate their political foes inside and outside their countries. He then blocked a State Department effort to warn these military juntas not to proceed with international assassinations. As the National Security Archive points out in a dossier it released this week on various Kissinger controversies, “Five days later, Condor’s boldest and most infamous terrorist attack took place in downtown Washington D.C. when a car-bomb, planted by Pinochet’s agents, killed former Chilean ambassador Orlando Letelier and his young colleague, Ronni Moffitt.”

These are just a few of the major actions….yes I remember them all as I am old and was a teacher and lecturer in international relations.

When Kissinger was up for a Noble Peace Prize I sent a letter condemning the idea to the Noble Committee but like most of these things it was ignored no matter how many of us protested the very idea.

Whatever his accomplishments, his legacy includes an enormous pile of corpses.

Sorry to say he will not be missed by me….that is cold and hard but so is the truth.

“Prevent Conflict And Promote Stability”

For as long as I can remember the US State Department has had the same, almost comical, slogan …..their goal is to “prevent conflict and promote stability’.

Recently the Biden White House has added to this delusion.

Every country, including our own, experiences risks and challenges related to stability and conflict. The international community grapples with issues that cut across borders, societies, ways of life, and economies. As the world has witnessed too often, the effects of conflict and instability are not constrained by borders or technologies. Cooperation and long-term investments in conflict prevention and stabilization are needed now more than ever to build peace across divided communities and boundaries. We must collectively bolster societal resilience to prevent and reduce the heavy human and financial costs of conflicts that undermine global peace, security and sustainable development.

On April 1, 2022, the Biden-Harris Administration launched the implementation of the U.S. Strategy to Prevent Conflict and Promote Stability with partner countries across the globe.  The Strategy outlines a ten-year, evidence-based, whole-of-government effort to foster peace and long-term stability through integrated U.S. diplomacy, development, and security-sector engagement with dual goals of strengthening national and regional peace, resilience and stability and enhancing the way our government operates in a variety of contexts.

(whitehouse.gov)

And how has that worked out for the US since 1990?

In Kosovo….and Somalia….Libya….Iraq….Afghanistan….and now Ukraine…..how is all this helping promote stability?

This is my favorite paragraph of the strategy from Biden…..

This Strategy lays out a whole-of-government approach to advancing America’s national interests on the world stage. This means tapping into the expansive expertise and resources that reside across our Government, sharpening and updating those tools where needed, humbly applying the costly and painful lessons from the past, and transforming the way we work with each other. Our diplomats, officers, and experts in the State Department, the United States Agency for International Development, the Department of Defense, the Department of the Treasury, and others across Government, as well as members of the Foreign Service and Armed Forces, will work in close cooperation with multilateral organizations and a wide variety of local partners in each nation where these efforts will be pursued — including civil society organizations, community leaders, businesses, and government officials. Those who are closest and most  vulnerable to these challenges know best where the opportunities for peace and stability lie — they represent the strongest source of promise and immunity from destabilizing forces, and we must support their strength and resilience. From strengthening social institutions and state-society relations, to mitigating the spread of extremist ideologies, to confronting the corrosive impact of gender inequality, to cultivating greater trust between security forces and citizens, to guarding against the destabilizing threat of climate change — we will help foster locally led, locally owned solutions grounded in mutual trust and long-term accountability.

All this should be the opening act down at the ‘Chuckle Shack’

All this humor is wonderful rhetoric and great slogans but the actions show a different side to this comedy.

SecState has made my case for me….

The US will focus its efforts on arming Ukraine and not attempting to bring the war to a negotiated settlement, America’s top diplomat said. Secretary of State Antony Blinken laid out a plan to massively expand Kiev’s military before talks begin.

In a speech delivered in Finland on Friday, Blinken stated, “The United States – together with our allies and partners – is firmly committed to supporting Ukraine’s defense today, tomorrow, for as long as it takes.” He continued, “We believe the prerequisite for meaningful diplomacy and real peace is a stronger Ukraine, capable of deterring and defending against any future aggression.”

Blinken dismissed the idea of even a temporary pause in the fighting. “Some countries will call for a ceasefire. And on the surface, that sounds sensible – attractive, even. After all, who doesn’t want warring parties to lay down their arms? Who doesn’t want the killing to stop?” He said. “But a ceasefire that simply freezes current lines in place and enables Putin to consolidate control over the territory he’s seized…It would legitimize Russia’s land grab. It would reward the aggressor and punish the victim.”

Thou Shall Not Deal With China

The war hawks are revving up their misinformation machine against China (the new enemy we must fear) and the nation has been expanding their influence around the world to include Africa…..and that expansion worries the US and plays into the hands of the war hawks.

The new SecState has issued a warning to Africa….

Secretary of State Antony cautioned Africa about China’s role in the continent in virtual talks with Nigeria and Kenya on Tuesday.

Responding to questions, Blinken said he hoped African countries would keep their “eyes wide open” when approaching relationships with other nations.

“We’re not asking anyone to choose between the United States or China, but I would encourage you to ask those tough questions, to dig beneath the surface, to demand transparency, and to make informed choices about what is best for you and your countries,” he said.

Beijing is involved in infrastructure projects across Africa, which the US views as a threat to American influence. President Biden has floated the idea of the US and its allies starting a global infrastructure project to rival China’s, which is known as the Belt and Road Initiative.

Biden has portrayed the US-China relationship as an ideological battle between “democracy” and “autocracy.” With this view in mind, it’s no wonder the US aims to compete with China in every theater it can.

China is also being used to justify domestic infrastructure projects. President Biden cited the need to compete with Beijing as the reason to pass his massive $2.3 trillion infrastructure plan.

That sounded like a ‘veiled threat’ to me….a threat is a threat regardless of the wording.

Let me see China is offering to build roads and other infrastructure projects to help the economy of ma nation and the US offers up special ops soldiers and armament.

Looks like China is winning more friends than the US.

Here’s a thought…maybe the US should find an alternative to armed conflict…look beyond the profit margins of the M-IC and offer the other nations ways to benefit the people and not the dictators and autocrats that ‘run’ most of these countries.

I know I am one voice in the wilderness against the M-IC and its aims of destruction and profit…I have been since 1972 and will remain so until I am gone.

“We Have Your Back”

That is basically what Biden admin has assured the crown prince of Saudi Arabia…..

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin spoke with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Thursday and reaffirmed the US military’s commitment to the “defense” of Saudi Arabia.

Despite Washington’s efforts to end the war in Yemen, the US military presence in Saudi Arabia seems set to continue. The Trump administration sent troops to Saudi Arabia in 2019, the first time US forces were deployed to the country since 2003. Now, the US is looking to establish new bases in western Saudi Arabia. The idea is that western areas are not in the range of Iran’s ballistic missiles.

Gen. Frank McKenzie, the head of US Central Command, discussed these western locations on Thursday, although he downplayed the idea that they would be permanent bases. “We are not looking for new bases. I want to be clear on that,” he said. “What we would like to do, without shutting down these [current] bases … is to have the ability to go to other bases to operate in a period of heightened risk.”

Seriously……we have their back?

I mean WTF?

How much technology have we given/sold to KSA?  How much training have we given them?

Billions of dollars and we still have to protect them?

Let me see now…..the defense industry makes billions and our forces still have to protect them from ‘meanies’ in the neighborhood….ain’t capitalism great?

All the countries like KSA and Israel…get away with murder (both literally and physically) and yet we have to “protect” their adventurism…..

Why?

Apparently the weapons industry has all the power over our foreign policy.

Again….why?

Biden’s State Department

Since I am a foreign policy geek and we have a new president it means I need to check out the secretaries of defense and state that Biden wants to nominate.

Biden has said that we need to return to the “table”….an interesting slogan but what does it mean…..

The president-elect has said repeatedly that his primary goal abroad is to put American back at “the head of the table” because “the world won’t organize itself.” But the shape of that table has changed profoundly. A global pandemic has laid bare the limits of globalization and multilateral diplomacy and accelerated the demise of the liberal international order that America created and that sustained its primacy; it has also exacerbated preexisting trends toward renewed geopolitical competition and heightened sensitivities about national sovereignty on issues from border security to the economy and health care. A powerful China and a declining yet still determined Russia have conspired successfully to oppose Pax Americana.

So how can Biden create a foreign policy that is both effective and designed to meet the new world realities he’ll confront? The new administration should focus on three objectives.

I have given my thoughts on Biden’s top choice for SecDef, Michele Flournoy…..https://lobotero.com/2020/11/19/will-michele-be-the-new-secdef/

Now I want to look at the top contender for SecState,

Joe Biden has apparently settled on his secretary of state nominee. As reported by outlets including the AP, CNN, the New York Times, and Bloomberg, sources say Biden will name Antony J. Blinken, a longtime aide and his closest foreign policy adviser. Blinken, 58, launched his career at the State Department while Bill Clinton was president; during Barack Obama’s administration, he served as deputy secretary of state and deputy national security adviser. Biden’s incoming chief of staff said Sunday that the president-elect will start announcing members of his cabinet Tuesday. He is expected to nominate Jake Sullivan, also a close aide, as national security adviser. (The AP explains why other top secretary of state contenders could have been “thorny” to get confirmed.)

The beat goes on for the war hawks…..
