The very last time that I voted for a winner in a presidential election was Jimmy Carter…..I liked his stands on foreign policy and the environment….but that is not why I am writing.

In the last couple of months Pres, Carter has taken a couple of falls…first a hip replacement and then recently a black eye and 14 stitches on his forehead……and he has fallen again in his home in Plains…..

Former US president Jimmy Carter has a fractured pelvis but remains in good spirits following his second fall in just over two weeks. The 39th president has been hospitalized after a fall at his home in Plains, Ga., reports the AP. Carter Center spokeswoman Deanne Congileo described the fracture as minor. Her statement said the 95-year-old is in good spirits at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center and is looking forward to recovering at home.

This is the third time Carter has fallen in recent months. He first fell in the spring and required hip replacement surgery. Carter fell again this month and despite receiving 14 stitches, traveled the next day to Nashville, Tenn., to rally volunteers and help build a Habitat for Humanity home. Carter is the oldest living former president in US history. He and 92-year-old Rosalynn recently became the longest married first couple, surpassing George and Barbara Bush, with more than 73 years of marriage

He, Carter, is a living treasure and should consider retiring from all his duties with the exception of his Sunday School class…..and the other hand he may need t keep busy for he thinks he will expire if he becomes idle…..then please get some live in help for him so that he does not have the falling episodes as often.

We cannot afford to lose the last statesman to hold the office of president…..

I have said many times that regardless what the political hacks say about Pres. Jimmy Carter I still think that he did the best he could for this country….and he may be the last statesman we elected to the office of president.

This man still at 95 gives back to the country he served….by give back I am not talking about trying to make as much cash as possible before they crap out…..I mean in service to the country with such organizations as Habitat For Humanity…..

At his advanced age he still does all he can even when he is not in the best of shape……like over the weekend when he took a fall…..

Former President Jimmy Carter had a black eye and 14 stitches after falling Sunday at his Georgia home, but made it to an evening concert in Tennessee to rally volunteers ahead of his 36th home building project for Habitat for Humanity. The 39th president fell earlier in the day at his home in Plains, Georgia, and required the stitches above his brow. By Sunday evening, Carter was on stage at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville with his wife Rosalynn, 92, to talk to volunteers and supporters of the building project, the AP reports. Carter turned 95 last Tuesday, becoming the first US president to reach that milestone. He told the crowd Sunday evening that he had to go to the hospital and get 14 stitches, “but I had a No. 1 priority and that was to come to Nashville and build houses.”

Carter wore an Atlanta Braves baseball cap, but his left eye was swollen and bruised and he had a white bandage above his eye. The Carters were introduced by country stars Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, who called the Carters the hardest working volunteers, and sang some duets during the concert and ceremony. Rosalynn Carter praised the country music couple for volunteering at previous Habitat for Humanity building projects, saying she once saw Yearwood way up in the rafters of a home working hard during construction.

Carter is an example of what ALL our ex-presidents should strive to be…a true statesman….sadly most fall way short of this bar because they put money over country.

Where’s Jimmy?

Many of the fights Dems are having these days were policies that Jimmy championed and never could get a deal through Congress.

This Jimmy is President Jimmy Carter…..the GOP’s favorite to blame everything bad on that is until the election of Obama and then he got their ire.

Carter was the last time I voted for a winner in a presidential election…..I liked many of his policies….his ideas on jobs, mortgages, foreign policy and so on…..then there were some ideas that are still being tried to get those elected and never come to be……

¶An end to the practice of appointing some ambassadors for political reasons or as a reward for campaign contributions.

¶Calling a meeting this fall of Congressional leaders and others to discuss the development of a more effective “bipartisan” foreign policy.

¶Making the term of the chairman of the Federal Reserve Board “coterminous” with that of the President to encourage greater harmony between the board’s monetary policies and the White House’s economic strategy.

¶Making the office of Attorney General a “nonpolitical” appointment for a term of six years, presumably isolated in considerable degree from White House pressures. This is probably a long‐range project.

¶The proposal of a national “sunshine” law to open more Government and legislative processes to public scrutiny and observation.

Many of his policies like the environment and foreign policy….could have prevented the crap we face today……just my opinion.  I felt so strongly about Crater’s proposals that I voted for him in 1980….of course we both lost out to mad man Reagan.

I agree that the Carter presidency was a failed revolution in American foreign policy……

US President Jimmy Carter took office in 1977, armed with a set of liberal ideals and aspirations that he believed would revolutionise American foreign policy. Carter had strong convictions that it was timely to initiate overhauling reforms in the country’s foreign policy by advancing human rights globally and pursuing a policy of arms restraint. During the onset of his regime, many administrations in the global landscape were dictatorships that committed human rights violations and were hungry for advanced armaments the US could offer. Carter meant to resolve this situation by infusing humanitarian concerns into the US foreign policy and implementing reprisals against governments that engaged in human rights abuses. Another ideal Carter romanticised about was disarmament, reduction of arms sales overseas (especially to none NATO nations), and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons. Going as far as making the sales of arms to foreign nations something that was done on an ad hoc basis. Carter believed that the time had come for the United States to move past Cold-War tensions and alter the US’s approach to containment in spite of Soviet determination to proliferate communist ideology on a global scale. As noble as they were, in practice Carter’s ideals crumbled due to his double-mindedness and want to compromise to please multiple parties. His liberal policies such as advancing human rights, democracy and education globally crumbled against an embedded strategic realpolitik policy set of deeply embedded policy packages, such as the Nixon administration’s policy of arming the Shah. This caused Carter to cave to the pressure of grander Cold War containment policy, which underpinned US foreign policy during the Cold War.

Another reason that I still like Carter is that he like Truman did not try to profit off their presidency……Harry Truman was Carter’s favorite President. Carter told The Guardian in 2011 that he admired Truman for not trying to profit off his presidency.

A man of principles….something seriously lacking in our present day politicians.  The only time they show a spine is when they have nothing to lose for their stance…like re-election.

We need a “man” of principles again.

Camp David–40 Years On

Forty years ago today, 17 September…..Pres, Carter, PM Begin and Egypt’s Sadat met for 2 weeks at Camp David and came away with a peace agreement signed by all sides…..

At the White House in Washington, D.C., Egyptian President Anwar el-Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin sign the Camp David Accords, laying the groundwork for a permanent peace agreement between Egypt and Israel after three decades of hostilities. The accords were negotiated during 12 days of intensive talks at President Jimmy Carter’s Camp David retreat in the Catoctin Mountains of Maryland. The final peace agreement–the first between Israel and one of its Arab neighbors–was signed in March 1979. Sadat and Begin were jointly awarded the 1978 Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts.

A state of war had existed between Egypt and the State of Israel since the establishment of Israel in 1948. In the first three Arab-Israeli wars, Israel decisively defeated Egypt. As a result of the 1967 war, Israel occupied Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, the 23,500-square-mile peninsula that links Africa with Asia. When Anwar el-Sadat became Egyptian president in 1970, he found himself leader of an economically troubled nation that could ill afford to continue its endless crusade against Israel. He wanted to make peace and thereby achieve stability and recovery of the Sinai, but after Israel’s stunning victory in the 1967 war it was unlikely that Israel’s peace terms would be favorable to Egypt. So Sadat conceived of a daring plan to attack Israel again, which, even if unsuccessful, might convince the Israelis that peace with Egypt was necessary.

This was the closest the Middle East had come to peace in many years and within a short period….Sadat had been assassinated and Begin also….Carter was replaced with Reagan and from that point on peace was never on the agenda.

The world missed the perfect opportunity to have a lasting peace….and history has shown just how bad events have gotten since those days 40 years ago.
