Closing Thought–14Mar18

One of the most controversial programs in our schools is sex education…..OMG!  they will teach our children how to have sex?

That is one of the dumbass questions that is asked when the subject of sex education is brought up at a school board meeting…..that is not what the program would be about…..

The program would teach our kids what happens when they have sex…unwanted pregnancy….it would also teach the kids about STDs….safe sex would be the aim of the program….but to some that would be tantamount to teach our children to be prostitutes….

For most of the religious types there is only one acceptable way to have safe sex and with the Trumpian thought process ….the only thing would be abstinence…..

Abstinence-only education — encouraging adolescents to wait until marriage for sex — is making a comeback under President Trump.

In a marked departure from the previous administration, conservatives at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) are putting an emphasis on abstinence to reduce teen pregnancy rates.

“We definitely are seeing a shift,” said Kelly Marcum, a government affairs legislative assistant at the Family Research Council in Washington, which supports abstinence-only education.

“We’re really excited to see that the administration is giving some tools back to us to keep pushing that fight.”

The last time abstinence only program was to the forefront the incidents of anal sex among teens went way up.

My point is that teens have raging hormones and they are going to have sex so why not teach them all about the act….knowledge would go a long way to preventing unwanted pregnancies….

We cannot blame Trump as much as I would like to…..ignorance does more damage…….. many babies are born out of ignorance….besides what is better than sex?

Teens Screwing More Than Ever

The health debate is in the back seat because we are having yet another race debate…..Too many people in the media have that debate all wrong, simply because they want to believe that race does not play a part in politics….they are silly or at worst just plain stupid….but that is for another day……since Washington is about as boring as watching paint dry….we will go on with my Sexy Sunday…..

In an article in MSNBC website:

U.S. states whose residents have more conservative religious beliefs on average tend to have higher rates of teenagers giving birth, a new study suggests.The relationship could be due to the fact that communities with such religious beliefs (a literal interpretation of the Bible, for instance) may frown upon contraception, researchers say. If that same culture isn’t successfully discouraging teen sex, the pregnancy and birth rates rise.

Mississippi topped the list for conservative religious beliefs and teen birth rates, according to the study results, which will be detailed in a forthcoming issue of the journal Reproductive Health.

For instance, the results showed more abortions among teenagers in the less religious states, which would skew the findings since fewer teens in these states would have births. But even after accounting for the abortions, the study team still found a state’s level of religiosity could predict their teen birth rate. The higher the religiosity, the higher was the teen birth rate on average.

Gee, looks like the abstinence thingy is not as effective as the bible thumpers would have believe, huh?

PETA Does It Again

I the last couple of years PETA has gotten weirder and weirder….but this is just about the weirdest they have come up with…this program and ad is really sick…..

A PROVOCATIVE television commercial called “Sex Talk”, produced by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) which hoped to run it in communities across Britain, has been banned by the advertising authority Clearcast.

The advert, which makes a satirical comparison with teen sex in order to promote the spaying and neutering of dogs and cats who face an uncertain future in severely crowded animal shelters, was considered “unacceptable on the grounds of offence”.  The 30-second spot – which Peta claims has aired in several markets across the US without any problems – features a couple who encourage their teenage daughter to become sexually active.

The horrified girl asks: “But what if I get pregnant?” and her parents urge her to have “all the kids you want. We can leave them in the shelter, dump them in the streets… whatever!”

The advert concludes: “Parents shouldn’t act this way. Neither should people with dogs and cats. Always spay or neuter.”  So far I have not seen this in the US but since they are obviously whacky, how long will it be before it arrives?

Will Men Become Obsolete?

I know that there are some that think it would be a good idea to eliminate men for various reasons, like that start wars to mention only one.  But these scientists are going a bit far.

A team of British scientists claimed Wednesday to have created human sperm using embryonic stem cells, in a medical first that they say will lead to a better understanding of fertility.Researchers led by Professor Karim Nayernia at Newcastle University and the NorthEast England Stem Cell Institute (NESCI) developed a new technique that allows the creation of human sperm in the laboratory.

They stressed that the sperm, developed from stem cells with XY chromosomes (male), would not be used for fertility treatment, as this is prohibited by law and in any case is not their main interest.

The team’s work involved developing stem cells that had XY chromosomes into germline cells — cells that can can pass their genetic material to future generations.

These were then prompted to complete meiosis, or cell division, which then produced “fully mature, functional sperm.”

Stem cells are immature cells that can develop into different cell types.

The scientists tried to develop cells with XX chromosomes (female) in the same way but they did not progress beyond early stage sperm, called spermatagonia. The team concluded that the genes on a Y chromosome are essential for sperm maturation.

Careful guys our days could be numbered, remember about the only thinbg we guys are good for, at least according to some women, is making babies.  If that is true and they take that away from us….why keep us around?

Gay Pregnancy?

Thinking……it that not an oxymoron?

Lesbian, gay and bisexual teenagers are at significantly higher risk for pregnancy during their teen years than their heterosexual peers, suggests a survey published Tuesday in the Canadian Journal of Human Sexuality.

The University of British Columbia study looked at adolescent health surveys of 1992, 1998, and 2003, which were random studies of about 70,000 students in Grades 7 through 12 in public schools across the province of B.C.

One of the reasons for higher pregnancy among sexual minority youth, say the report’s authors, is the stigma gay teens continue to face and the strategies they may engage in order to cope with that stigma.

For example, in 1998 among the teenage girls surveyed, 7.3 per cent of lesbians and 10.6 per cent of girls who said they were bisexual reported pregnancy compared with 1.8 per cent of heterosexual girls.

The report suggests that for youth, the stigma of being gay may lead to engaging in heterosexual dating and sex as a form of “camouflage” to avoid being identified as homosexual.

Of the girls surveyed, 100 per cent of those who had become pregnant also said they had been discriminated against on the basis of their sexuality, while only 42.7 per cent of lesbian girls who said they had never been pregnant cited discrimination.

Only 18.4 per cent of gay teenage boys who were involved in getting a woman pregnant said they had experienced discrimination, while 60.4 per cent of those who were not involved in pregnancy said they had not been discriminated against.

Other explanations for the higher rates of pregnancy may be the higher number of gay and lesbian youth who live on the streets. The study finds that street youth – those who have run away from home, for example – are at higher risk for teen pregnancy, in part because survival sex or sexual exploitation can increase the frequency of sex and make it difficult to negotiate contraception and safer sexual practices.

The study also suggests a higher number of gay and lesbian teens are experiencing sex at a younger age – under 14 – than their heterosexual peers.
