As we close in the vote it seems that the begging for bucks has gotten non-stop…..I do not blindly support any party especially with my cash…..but what about others?
All I can say is you need to beware of the robo-calls and such….
A CNN investigation has uncovered a troubling trend in political fundraising, one in which elderly Americans—particularly those with dementia—are unwittingly becoming major donors to campaigns. Both parties have benefited from the practice, which often begins with a small online donation to a candidate. But once the hooks are set, a barrage of texts and emails follow, often deploying deceptive practices that sign people up for recurring donations without them realizing it. Those donating commonly think they’re communicating directly with their favored candidate. The investigation reached out to more than 300 of the largest and most-frequent small-sum political contributors and found dozens of examples of “unwitting elderly donors.”
“The fundraising operations that have solicited money from vulnerable senior citizens use either WinRed or ActBlue, two juggernaut digital platforms that unite hundreds of political groups and campaigns under a single umbrella,” per the story. It’s a profitable enterprise: Each platform gets about 4% off each transaction. The FTC has logged more than 800 complaints about WinRed from 2022 through 2024, and 120 about ActBlue. The story includes multiple examples of families fighting to get back hefty sums, sometimes in the six figures. “He was old, lonely, and isolated,” says the son of an 81-year-old donor who wound up in debt after giving about $80,000 in small but constant increments. “‘Save America, help save America,’ that was the constant message,” adds the son. “He would get thanked for helping to save America.”
These creeps do not care about the person making the donations as long as they get a name and a number.
Please beware of these parasites.
I Read, I Write, You Know
“lego ergo scribo”
Fortunately, political parties are banned from soliciting donations from ‘ordinary people’ here. They can accept them if people send them the money, but they are not allowed to ask for money by phone, mail, email, or TV advertising.
Best wishes, Pete.
A helluva idea….we should look to that chuq
I usually fo not answer the phone unless I can see who is calling. So I don’t get constant phone ringing asking for money. I don’t have polls and surveys to speak to either. Years ago I would contribute to the candidate I was supporting, but not recently. This year I asked fir a non-partisan ballot in the primary, so neither party could see which party ballot I used and would swamp me with calls and emails. Which primary you voted in is public record. Georgia has open primaries and you can vote in either parties primary, regardless or any prior party registration or affiliation.
I stop sending money because it is never enough and the constant pleas are irritating. chuq
I am afraid that with that bunch it is not so much about “Saving America” as it is about “Looting” America… I will wager that before they are done (once they win the election) every government agency will be made into a profit-generating operation designed to fill the pockets of the ruling elite.
That is an accurate assumption I believe. chuq
There have always been bastards who have taken advantage of vulnerable people, and politicians have been among the worst.
And the religious con artists…..it is disgusting. chuq
Unfortunately true.
One thing that always made me question religion, even when I was a little kid, was how they were constantly begging for money from the even the very, very poor, and funneling that money into some mysterious “charity” somewhere They were always desperate for more and more money.
But the parish priest lived, for free, in a brand new, 3 bedroom home with all the latest amenities, wore handmade, extremely expensive vestments that seemed to need to be replaced every couple of years, using solid gold chalices and patens, in a church filled with expensive art. The Vatican was awash with breathtakingly beautiful statues and paintings by the great masters, etc. Meanwhile they were trying to squeeze money out of poverty stricken families that I knew couldn’t afford to even buy shoes for their kids? Meanwhile they claimed they were following the teachings of Jesus who told his followers to sell all they owned and give it to the poor? I learned the meaning of the term “hypocrisy” at a very early age in that catholic school.
The whole ‘pay to pray’ is just wrong in my book. chuq
Don’t believe those people are associated with one democrats or republicans more than the other. They are non/politucsl criminals out after everyone in general. .
