GOP Debates: The Proof Is In The Pudding

There was so much bullshit spread last night that it is hard to know where to start…..so I did the logical thing…..I found someone that did the fact checking for me……the Associated Press……(I know I am lazy)……

The last debate had a lot of stuff said…..very little of it had anything to do with the running of this country properly…..I have quips, slogans, taglines and just plain lies…..but NOTHING that would lead me to vote for any of them……my two dogs have better plans than this pack of losers……

But do not let me influence you…..check out the facts about their words…..

If you feel that you will be voting GOP then please take a look at the words they uttered and the facts…..they may be a bit non-aligned….LOL

Tonight’s The Night……..

“Everything’s gonna be alright”…..(Rod Stewart reference)…..

I see by the clock on the wall….it is time to end my posting day……..I leave my readers with one last thought…….BACON! (Sorry must be on-set Touret’s)….

Yes we have a GOP debate to night…..there will be a “kiddie” table one first and then the Big Event….the Trump Show will commence…..

I will go on record as saying that there will be NOTHING new here…Trump will perform…all others will try to play catch up….

But I guess if you must amuse yourself with silliness….then what you need to watch for in tonite’s matinee……

The Republicans debate again Wednesday night, with a field still big enough to require two events. The undercard is at 6pm Eastern on CNBC (Rick Santorum, Bobby Jindal, George Pataki, and Lindsey Graham), followed by the main event at 8pm on the same network with the remaining 10. (Their rankings, according to cumulative polls: Donald Trump, Ben Carson, Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush, Carly Fiorina, Ted Cruz, Mike Huckabee, Chris Christie, John Kasich, and Rand Paul.) Given that CNBC is a business news network, expect a heavy focus on economic issues, notes USA Today. Some things to watch:

  • Trump vs. Carson: Trump has lost his lead to Carson in the latest polls (though he still leads cumulatively), which means “the Donald will be looking to tear him down,” notes Slate. Will Carson’s cool demeanor crack now that he’s a bigger target as a frontrunner?
  • Which Bush? He has the “most at stake by far,” says Mike Allen of Politico, and he needs a strong night to convince backers he’s still their guy. The question is whether the Bush who shows up will be the relatively subdued Bush of the first two debates or more forceful.
  • Rubio vs. Bush: Rubio has skillfully become the No. 1 establishment candidate in part with smart debate performances. One wrinkle Wednesday night: “Bush may be looking for a fight” to reclaim that establishment crown, notes Yahoo.
  • Christie as Trump alternative? “This is a debate where Christie needs to come out and show that if you like the Trump swagger, but you have concerns about the Trump electability, I can be your guy,” according to Jonathan Martin in the New York Times.
  • Wild cards: Fiorina “needs a shot of momentum” and has gotten one after the first two debates, observes Real Clear Politics. But she and the rest of the pack will likely be struggling to get noticed. Kasich in particular has been signaling that he’s going to get aggressive, while Carson’s rise in the polls is putting pressure on Cruz to stake his claim as the anti-establishment candidate.

Me?  I have a really excellent bottle of Spanish Sherry…..I will sleep like a baby.

How Popular Is Peace?

These days the term “peace” generates very little interest……

I am truly impressed by the tone of the magazine, The American Conservative…….I am by no stretch of the imagination a conservative but I find the thoughts put forth in this magazine shows some real growth for American conservatives……

Our Right leaning party is full of war hawks….mainly because most of them are owned by the Military-Industrial Complex (M-IC)…..so naturally they will be pushing more and more for military intervention to make their owners happy.

In the past I was an anti-war protester, a peace-nik, if you will and that drive me to study war and its causes and solutions……today’s world is very confusing for it seems that even the smallest event can lead to wide spread death and destruction is peace possible?

In these days when every conflict seems to spiral out of control….is peace a popular concept or for that matter, an option?

I am not saying that I agree with every thing that is written within the pages of this magazine…..only that it gives me hope that our country can once again return to sanity from the abyss of insanity……

A brief history of the term RINO, from Roosevelt to Boehner – Vox

It is election time and the GOP field is as nutty as it has ever been…..and at anytime now someone will use the RINO taunt…..a painful insult to a conservative…….

One of my fave terms in all of politics, well American politics is….RINO (Republican In Name Only)…..when conservatives want to insult their colleagues they call them RINOs……

The latest attack by a Repub on his fellow Repubs is Ted Cruz…….

Cruz took to the Senate well on Monday–to speak before what was effectively an empty chamber–and criticized fellow Republicans Mitch McConnell, John Boehner and his Texas colleague in the Senate John Cornyn. Nominally, Cruz was slamming his colleagues–for an hour– because they did not back him in the fights over the Iran deal and Planned Parenthood.

Though Cruz did not specially use the term RINO….we all know what he was thinking…….RINO?…….A good term….but is there a history that we should know about the term?

Yes there is…..read on……learn the history (you guys knew that was coming, right?)

Source: A brief history of the term RINO, from Roosevelt to Boehner – Vox

Boehner has decided to cut and run…..now the GOP has its eyes on Senate leader……..

Several influential Republicans have called for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to resign. Pressure for the Kentucky congressman to step aside follows House Speaker John Boehner’s announcement that he is resigning at the end of October.

According to Business Insider, Republicans who are frustrated with McConnell’s leadership want him to change the Senate rules to enable conservative legislation to pass without needing the required 60-vote super-majority. McConnell’s refusal to use obstruction methods was also a source of Republican frustration, according to The Washington Times.

GOP is trying to rid itself of all RINOs……is this a purity thing?  If I were a conservative I would wear the title like a badge of courage….but that is me…..

See what we can learn by using history…….you will thank me later……

Naming Names: A More Precise Look at Why The Republican Party is Dying | RedState

An earlier post today I gave my readers a look at the most recent polls and the candidates and I found another article that kinda goes along with my earlier piece……even conservatives are not too optimistic on the future of the GOP…………

I have read Red State for many years now……I have mixed emotions about Erickson….there are times when he is very insightful and then he drifts off into the never-never land of the nutty professor…..

I recently read a piece in Red State that I feel I need to pass on to my readers……this is one of those occasions that I agree with Erickson…….unless the GOP gets its stuff together it will be a party from the past..

Both Ross Douthat and I have concluded that the Republican Party is set to learn the wrong lessons from the rise of Donald Trump. The party, as we know it, is going to die because the party leadership is incapable of changing. We should examine part of this from one side that rarely gets mentioned — consultants. The consultant class within the GOP has arranged | Read More »

After reading this let me know what you think……is the GOP a dying party?

I Like Ike!

I recall the election of 1950’s….that was the slogan du jour for the GOP nominee……I do like Ike he was a soldier that was honest about what war is and what war does…..

He also warned the country about a growing Military-Industrial Complex…..the drawbacks of such an industry….but I appreciate his thoughts on war…..most of all.

Shame that money has replaced common sense in the GOP………only a moron would prefer war to a peaceful solution…….Listen to IKE….he was a smart man!

An interesting thought by one of Ike’s contemporaries……we may not appreciate the speaker but the words are powerful……

GOP’s Endangered Species

About a week ago I saw a report that Rick Perry was not paying his staffers, apparently he is out of money.  Remember last year when he was one of the “anointed” ones…..a front runner if you will…….and now he is barely hanging on by his toe nails.

This news got me to thinking…..4 years ago the presumptive front runner of the 2012 election season for the GOP was Tim Pawlenty and he dropped out before the Iowa Caucasus….

Now on to this election…..Perry looks like he will have to bow out either before or just after Iowa….that is unless he can find a treasure chest with campaign cash inside…..will there be others?

There are 18 GOP candidates and Iowa looms but can all the candidates make it through to South Carolina?

Of course they cannot……..by South Carolina there  will be 10 or so candidates left in the field…..it may surprise you to learn that some of the most popular candidates from 2012 will be the first to crap out.

My how times have changed……huh?

Tea Party Explained?

They Came From Beyond Reason…….would have been a great title for a 50’s movie from RKO, starring Dan Durea…..if only……..

The election of ’08 brought to the forefront of politics the Tea Party…..and ever since people have tried to explain just what exactly the TP is all about……I think I have found a plain, simple and very to the point explanation of what the TP is……..whatcha think?

Trump/Kelly Saga Or They’re So Lame

I guess today I need to bow to social convention and post on some of the mundane worthless stories that Americans find so damn interesting (no accounting for intelligence).

I am amazed that the cock up between “Mr. Hair” and Megyn Kelly, FOX News anchor….this whole thing is mind numbingly mundane and worthless……but conserv after conserv has come to the forefront and demand that Trump act like an adult (not gonna happen) these people have whacked the Donald’s pee-pee over his comment and some have even gone so far as to call it disgusting…..and some have just mumbled because they are afraid to get on his bad side…….

First, all this lip service is just so much BS……it is what everyone tuned in for….the ratings were phenomenal…….people wanted to see what the Donald would say……the viewers got what they tuned in for…..THEATRICS!  That whole thing was designed to be a win-win scenario…..all sides came out of it all the better….it delivered!

Second, Trump did not actually answer a single question but instead delivered his usual platitudes and brashness……nothing about actual policies or stands other than his usual find a scapegoat…..he was telling people what they wanted to hear and he got what he was there for….APPLAUSE!

Last, Trump’s lame ass comment about Kelly…..if he had made the statement about a liberal then every conserv on the planet would have jumped to his defense…….saying the he was just “telling it like it is”…..again all this was just for show and the mindless bought it hook line and sinker.

This country has more problems than can be repaired in a lifetime and yet we want some egotistical dickhead to go off and play his little game……..there is NOTHING to Trump…..but HAIR!

It is just silly that this is still a story in the media……..I guess the Clinton e-mails will be the next to be dragged on…..and on…..and………

2016 GOP Debate: The First

Still NO word about the military takeover of Texas…….(Waiting)……….(moving on)……..last night was the very first in the list of GOP debates……finally we can have some closure over the cock up on who would qualify to be on stage……

Next the newest cock up for the GOP….Planned Parenthood……the timing was perfect……it came before the debates and gave the idiots to fixate on….that is other than real issues……the backbone of GOP politics…….imaginary crises……….

Okay on to the debate tonight!

The truth is I was not going to watch any of the candidates debates because they are going to be silly……like the news……..this country infrastructure is going to Hell and the best politicians can do is grab their crotch and bitch about Planned Parenthood…….this is a diversion…..emotional religious bullshit to keep from discussing real problems…….

I decide to watch the first one to see just how humorous and uninformative it could be…….The candidates on stage Thursday night whose poll numbers have been around the low- to mid-single digits include New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and neurosurgeon Ben Carson.

But first there was the “Kiddie Table” debate of those candidates that could not muster enough interest to make it to the “Big Dance”……..

Their better-polling rivals get to debate in prime time, but seven Republicans tried to make the most of it in the first Fox News debate today. Based on the early reviews, it seems that one clearly did: Carly Fiorina. She “nailed it,” observes the Washington Post. The former Hewlett-Packard exec didn’t get flustered, answered questions clearly, and won rave reviews on Twitter. “They should invite carly fiorina back for the 9 oclock debate,” wrote Newt Gingrich. Some highlights from the forum with her, Rick Perry, Jim Gilmore, Lindsey Graham, Bobby Jindal, Rick Santorum, and George Pataki:

  • The presence of Donald Trump came up early. Fiorina quipped that she didn’t get a phone call from Bill Clinton before deciding to run. “Did any of you get a phone call from Bill Clinton? I didn’t. Maybe it’s because I hadn’t given money to the foundation, or donated to his wife’s Senate campaign.” But she also acknowledged that Trump has tapped into something real, notes the New York Times.
  • Perry “appeared to pick up steam as the debate wore on, and he likely exceeded the low expectations that were set after his 2011 debate debacle,” writes Colleen McCain Nelson at the Wall Street Journal. Asked to use two words to describe Hillary Clinton, Perry opted for three: “Good at email.”
  • Graham also went after Clinton: “To all the Americans who want a better life, don’t vote for Hillary Clinton,” he said in answering a question about the economy. “She represents the third term of a failed presidency.”
  • Santorum hasn’t been happy with his second-tier status, but in his first debate answer tonight, he “cleverly notes he was even further back four years ago before winning a string of states,” tweeted Gerald Seib of the Wall Street Journal.
  • Jindal, asked about Ohio Gov. John Kasich’s decision to accept an ObamaCare Medicaid expansion, said, “I don’t think anyone should expand Medicaid,” but held back on going after his fellow candidate. In the view of Politico, Jindal “didn’t deviate much from talking points or otherwise do much to stand out, but was articulate in his delivery.”
  • Pataki said he undid many of Mario Cuomo’s executive orders when he became governor of New York. “I would do this to Barack Obama’s executive orders.”
  • Gilmore called President Obama’s executive orders on immigration illegal and said they show “contempt for the rule of law.”
  • Attendance in Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena was relatively sparse, reports AP.
  • The Washington Post provides a full transcript of the debate here.

Best in show:  Fiorina

Should of stayed home”  Jindal

And now the main event………

The first GOP debate was nothing but a new Reality Show, all that was missing was a couple of big breasted blondes crying, yelling and throwing things.

The GOP debate on Fox News tonight proved to be Trump-centric as he and his nine rivals—Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, Mike Huckabee, Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, Chris Christie, and John Kasich—tried to emerge from the pack. (As Carly Fiorina did in the early debate.) In fact, Trump fielded the very first question, and it was a doozy. When all the candidates were asked if anyone was unwilling to pledge support to the eventual nominee and to rule out a run as an independent, only Trump raised his hand. “I will not make the pledge at this time,” he said. Other highlights, via CNN, the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post:

  • Christie vs Paul: After Paul said, “I want to collect more records from terrorists, but less records from innocent Americans. … I’m proud of standing for the Bill of Rights, and I will continue to,” Christie responded, “That’s a completely ridiculous answer. … How are you supposed to know? … When you’re sitting in a subcommittee blowing hot air, then you can say things like that.”
  • Bush on political dynasties: “I’m going to have to earn this.” And on the Iraq war: “Knowing what we know now with faulty intelligence … it was a mistake. I wouldn’t have gone in.” CNN’s David Chalian: “Nothing about tonight’s debate indicated that Jeb Bush is in the driver’s seat of this campaign. He seemed much more like a passenger—and at times a nervous and unsure one at that.”
  • Paul vs Trump: “He buys and sells politicians of all stripes. He’s already hedging his bet on the Clintons,” said Paul. Trump responded that he’s given money to Paul, too.
  • Kasich: “Donald Trump’s hitting a nerve in this country, he really is. … For people to want to just tune him out, they’re making a mistake.” He also gave an impassioned answer about his support of gay marriage, here. Writes Nicholas Confessore at the New York Times: “I think Kasich has been extremely effective up there. Lots of confidence, talks like a real person, and so far has successfully defended his biggest vulnerability–the Medicaid expansion under Obamacare.”
  • Rubio: “How is Hillary going to lecture me about living paycheck to paycheck? I was raised paycheck to paycheck.” Rubio generally won praise tonight for his answers.
  • Trump on political correctness: “I think the big problem this country has is being politically correct. I’ve been challenged by so many people and I don’t, frankly, have time for total political correctness. And to be honest with you, this country doesn’t have time, either.”
  • Carson: He said Hillary Clinton “counts on the fact that people are uninformed.” At another point, he thanked the moderator for a question and added, “I wasn’t sure I was going to get to talk again.”
  • Cruz: “It’s not a question of stupidity. It’s that they don’t want to enforce the immigration laws,” he said of unnamed GOP colleagues. Mostly though, Cruz had a surprisingly quiet night.
  • Walker: “Every section of the world that Hillary Clinton touched is more messed up today than it was.” He also said Iran and ISIS were “tied together.”
  • Huckabee: “The military is not a social experiment,” he said in discussing gender diversity and LGBT benefits. “The purpose of the military is to kill people and break things.”
  • Christie on New Jersey’s financial trouble: “If you think it’s bad now, you should’ve seen it when I got there.

Summary?

Best In Show:  Kasich

2nd Fiddle:  Rubio

Tried Too Hard:  Paul

Should Of Stayed Home:  Huckabee

Not Ready For Prime Time:  Carson

All in all I was unimpressed…..but debates seldom impress me for they are mostly talking points…..little to do with real problems…….

Yawn!  Time for bed…….
