Has A Diarchy Arrived?

There is a term that not many Americans will be familiar with unless they are a student of history…..think Sparta…..not some romanticize BS from the film 300 but their way of government.

Diarchy….Diarchy (from Greek δι-, di-, “double”, and -αρχία, -arkhía, “ruled”), duarchy, or duumvirate is a form of government characterized by co-rule, with two people ruling a polity together either lawfully or de facto, by collusion and force. The leaders of such a system are usually known as corulers.

That out of the way that brings us to the meat of this post….

Now, I arrive at my point, such as it is. Sparta’s government was unique in that it had two chief executives, call them “kings”, if you like, who had equal power (and powerful they must have been since both “royal” families traced their origins to the seed of Hercules). Sparta was one of the few Diarchies that we know of (the Roman Republic model its two consuls after the Spartan system, though the consuls were limited to one-year terms and, until the rise of the dictators Sulla, Crassus, Pompey and Julius Caesar in the first century BCE, the real power resided with the Senate).

And now a Diarchy has assumed power in the United States, featuring a duumvirate of Trump and the world’s richest human, Elon Musk. The difference being: in Sparta, the diarchy, according to Aristotle, was meant to serve as a check on absolutist power and here it is being used to consolidate it.

Last week our co-rulers made separate appearances at CPAC, a kind of Dionysian festival for the Cult of MAGA, where both of them were far from laconic about their plans to recreate the Republic in their own images.

Taking Xenophon as my model, I’ve pulled some relevant quotations from our two Diarchs (Trump and Musk) so that we’ll have a keener sense of exactly the kind of tyranny-by-two that is in store for us…

Donny and Elmo show continues…..if I were VP I would watch my back since Elmo is notorious for backstabbing.

Welcome to the Diarchy.

  1. I suggest you have an Oligarchy, run my Musk, Vance, Trump, and others in the background. It reminds me of China’s, ‘Gang of Four’, and one day soon, they will turn on each other, as sure as shit is brown.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  2. A president can select anyone he pleases to act as an unpaid advisor. I recall that “Kitchen Cabinet”. The advisior should investigate and report but since a free lance advisor is not a validated government official he should have no power to close any agency, eliminate employees or any other powers beyond investigative reporting. The cabinet heads, department heads at every level and president should be the sole directors. However, any $ should have complete open accon ting for anyone to examine and make public their findings and any government must always have complete transparency. I think Musk’s examinations are very valuable but there should not be any diarchy and if one does exist it needs to be terminated. I am astonished that the Trump- Musk haters are not shocked and outraged over the $$$ nonsense being revealed nor demanding accountability and presecution.

    1. But Elmo is making billions….he tries to gut NASA so SpaceX gets all the work…..He is being allowed to make decisions without authority and no one cares…..at least some of the legal system is working against him. chuq

      1. If oversight is suitable then so be it. Often a watchdog needs watching. I often had oversight on me at job. Only problem for me was I was blamed for any and all global misfortunes since Creation.

      2. Real and accurate oversight is a good thing but a guillotine approach is not rational or beneficial. chuq

    1. The problem I have with this ignorance is the Pentagon has been wasteful for decades and the knife seems to miss it under all administrations….that is where Elmo should have begun not with health institutions. chuq

      1. I just wish that the people and their problems were more important than the corruption in the War Department……chuq
