Is Harris Repeating Mistakes Of The Past?

To answer that question…I believe she is repeating past mistakes.

I listen to political ads and Harris seems to be targeting those ‘Never Trumpers’ but is that a good idea when people are struggling with this economy?

Kamala Harris’ decision to mention Alberto Gonzales being added to the list of Republicans who’ve thrown their support behind her rubbed Jeet Heer the wrong way. In a piece for the Nation, Heer writes that the reference to the former US attorney general at a Thursday town hall sponsored by Univision was a “tone-deaf” move—Gonzales has been out of the public eye for two decades and brings the phrase “torture memos” to mind. As far as ill-advised choices go, it was a minor one, but Heer sees a “broader” and more “distressing” pattern at play: In the waning days of her campaign, Harris is putting too much effort into trying to win over “Never Trump” Republicans. And he sees a parallel with the final weeks of Hillary Clinton’s run for the White House.

“One big reason Clinton lost in 2016 was that she neglected the working-class base of the party at the expense of trying to win [GOP] converts,” writes Heer. Fears are rising within the party that Harris is doing the same. And yet “unlike Hillary Clinton in 2016, Harris does have a genuine economic populist agenda.” For example, her proposal that Medicare cover in-home care for seniors and people with disabilities would, if enacted, be a revolutionary investment in caregiving. However, Harris’ campaign is bungling things by trying to court a pool of Republicans instead of focusing on this proposal and economic policy in general, according to Heer. Three weeks is barely enough time to change course. She must do it now. “Hitting hard on economic populism while there is still time to excite the base remains the best path to victory,” Heer writes.

The working class always gets the shaft in recent elections…..it is always about some silly notion of ‘trickle down’ BS.

Less than a month and Harris is still not laser focused on making working stiffs lives better…..we have nothing but a slogan….’A New way Forward’.

Sorry but we are stuck in reverse.

  1. I think the “old ways” or “normal ways” of the immediate past would be a lot better than the risky “new way foward”. Why haven’t they initiated this “new way foward” for the last 3 1/2 years ? I am esp skeptical as I recall Michelle Obama said “everyone’s going to have to accept a smaller piece of the pie”. Is that what the “new way forward” means ? That seems like a code for the blue collar class will pay more but all will get less. One thing I do like is Medicare paying for home care which seems would save the system million$ but then I’ve also heard it would cost more than the current system. Do you have any info on that?

Medicare does pay for home hospice but you must be declared terminal and you get no regular care and drugs only pallative care. As I am aging and in decline with no nursing home care affordable, fading away in my own bed would be preferable. Since I live alone I must be home to manage household affairs as there is no one to take care of any of that or even help a little. Another frightful matter is that I have to switch to Eliquis ( blood thinner, A-fib reduced threat, blood clots reduced threat) which will cost $1,900 a year even with Medicare Part D and Medicare supplemental drug plan. That’s going to give me more heart attacks not fewer or less deadly.

      1. Most families would also really appreciate help with elder care for parents. Even if the parent income or the family income is somewhat too high for Medicaid assistance few have the money for satisfactory residential housing. It seems the dems do find plenty of money to rain money upon non citizens here and even the rest of the wrld but not for elder aged Americans who have worked all their lives. The COLA for social security is an absolute insult.

      1. Bret asked the appropriate questions but he was unnecessarily combative like they do to Trump. All he had to do is ask a question, keep quiet and let her talk and ramble on. Her incompetence is strkingly apparent to all.

      2. Some reports say she is trying to reach republicans who are not happy with Trump. They don’t like Trump but they watch Fox. Most Republicans I know don’t like Trump either, but they will vote for him because they are Republicans. They dislike democrats more than they dislike Trump.

  2. I prefer a meaningless slogan to something more on the order of Heil — which we would probably have if Harris loses.
