Closing Thought–10May18

My doctors visit was just awful….I was scolded for taking 2 pills too many… they want me to give up wine….that may be a request too far…chuq

I watched the landing of the plane carrying the North Korean hostages home……it was a great photo op……

A proud moment for President Trump: Trump, accompanied by Melania Trump, Mike Pence, and Karen Pence, was on hand to welcome three former prisoners back from North Korea at Joint Base Andrews outside Washington early Thursday, the AP reports. Kim Dong Chul, Kim Hak Song, and Kim Sang Duk were released Wednesday after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met with North Korean officials. The three men arrived at the base at 2:42am on a Boeing C-40 equipped with medical facilities and were taken to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for evaluation. “This is a special night for these three really great people,” Trump said as he stood on the tarmac with them. He thanked Kim Jong Un and said the North Korean leader “really wants to do something” about denuclearization.

The men “appear to be in good condition and were all able to walk on the plane without assistance,” the State Department said in a statement after the release. When the plane stopped to refuel in Alaska, the three men released a statement thanking the US government, Trump, Pompeo, “and all our families and friends who prayed for us and for our return,” adding: “God bless America, the greatest nation in the world.” All three men had been serving sentences of at least a decade in labor camps, Newsweek reports. Kim Sang Duk, also known as Tony Kim, and Kim Hak Song are university professors who were arrested a year ago and accused of trying to subvert the regime. Kim Dong Chul, a pastor, had been detained since October 2015. In 2016, he was sentenced to 10 years of hard labor for espionage.

Now that they are safely home I would like to ask……what the Hell were they doing in North Korea?  I thought there was a travel ban for North Korea.  Did they wake up one morning and decide to press their luck and venture into North Korea knowing full well what would most likely happen to them?  I mean we have plenty of examples of the sentence for foreigners in North Korea.

Again what the Hell were they doing there?  Is there any consequence for failing to observe the ban?  Please let’s not call them “heroes”…I am weary of that title being a catch all for every situation…this is not one of those situations.

These are questions that seem to slip everyone’s mind at times like this…..

On a Final Note:  Trump has told the world where and when the Korean summit will be held……

The time and date are set: President Trump will meet with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un in Singapore on June 12. “We will both try to make it a very special moment for World Peace!

Oh goody……more photo ops and Twitter fodder…..the MSM will have a field day with speculation……this meeting should produce nothing but media ratings.

  1. One of the many drawbacks of aging (and there are many to be sure) is that right when we want to settle down and enjoy what time is left.. the doc’s tell us we have to make all these “lifestyle” changes, like diets, exercise, etc. I mean WTF.. like your wine revelation.. we are forced to compromise.. do I want to enjoy life as I am used to and be somewhat satisfied, or do I want to change my personal lifestyle just to live longer and not be happy? Add to that the possibility that while I might change my lifestyle to treat my diabetes… I’ll end up getting cancer or something equally loathsome.. and I would have wished I ate pizza every damn day. .Between that.. and Trump getting elected… there is NO justice in the world.

  2. And, we all know that if anybody else had been President at the time of the return of these captives from North Korea, the Liberal-Owned MSM would be glowing with praise for the President. But this is Trump and the Trump Haters will do what the Trump Haters do best.

  3. I give him credit for somehow getting the three men back back, but that is overshadowed by the potential harm to the credibility, influence, and safety of the US by his earlier announcement that he was taking the US out of the Iran agreement…even though they were following the agreement and we have/had a reliable way to monitor their compliance. A president is judged by the whole of his actions, and this one continues to be erratic, vulgar, petty, possibly involved in illegal activities. (See, I gave him the benefit of the doubt – “possibly” – though my personal feeling is he is guilty as hell.)

    1. I cannot disagree with you…..but I still want to know what these 3 were doing in NK….there is a travel ban in place….why were they there? chuq

      1. It is curious, isn’t it? When people end up there, I kind of lose sympathy for them when they run afoul of the law and end up in a slave labor camp. The dangers are known and the penalties are outrageously out of proportion to the “crimes”. Death (ultimately) for taking a souvenir of a propaganda poster for the young man Trump mentioned, for example.

Tragic? Yes! Preventable? Of course. It’s like people the US Coast Guard risk their lives to save when they imperiled themselves by sailing when the weather report was for a hurricane or some other dangerous weather.

      2. Or those people the get taken in Iran there is a travel ban there also…why were they there? I mean do they wake up one morning and think a trip to North Korea would be fun? Do they watch or read the news? Being stupid does not make one a”hero”…..chuq

      3. Yep he had to talk about ratings…that whole affair was for the media and a reality show….disgusting….chuq

      4. I forget which show I saw it on, but the speaker noted that Trump approaches the presidency the way he would a reality television show, with announcements about what’s on the next episode. Unfortunately, his grasp of the realities and responsibilities of that office seems to be on that level. “I’ll make an announcement in two weeks…” It’s always that way.
