In Search Of A Poor Man’s Nuke

Time for me to return to something interesting…..I have had enough of American reality TV that we called an election…..the world is awaiting so I will do what I do best….look for those events that could be life changing…..

I have written several articles about missing nuke material and their uses…..most of them are contained in a piece I wrote for Ace News Room recently……which I pressed here on IST….basically they are pieces on what to look for and what to do when a dirty bomb is detected……

I bring this up because I read a pretty good op-ed written for AJE on the possibility of a dirty bomb detonated by ISIS……if you would like to check it out……

It’s only a matter of time before ISIL employs a dirty bomb either on the streets of the West or in the towns of Syria.

A radiological dispersal device, commonly referred to as a dirty bomb, is often considered to be the poor man’s nuclear bomb – but this is not a very accurate description.

A dirty bomb is not a nuclear bomb because it does not rely on a nuclear reaction to trigger the explosion. Instead, a dirty bomb involves the dispersal of radioactive material by traditional explosives, such as dynamite.

The deadliness of a dirty bomb depends on a number of factors including the type of radioactive material used, the weather conditions, and where the bomb is detonated.

Some may think that this is just alarmist thinking…..but with the amount of nuke material floating around the world….it is only a matter of time before some nut-job decides to use one to make a point……

  1. So, it’s like a Glitter Bomb, only you replace the glitter with radioactive material?

Considering it will glow in the dark, it’s only a matter of time until they start doing this at raves.

  2. I am reminded by a short passage from one of Terry Pratchett’s books, wherein he comments on such an event, by noting it’s a self-regulating sort of thing… Any terrorists who’d make such a bomb would probably not actually know much about radioactivity, and so would effectively kill themselves by handling and building it, and there is a limited supply of terrorists…He said it funnier, though….

It’s not as simple as it sounds to make one, though it isn’t all that hard, but, the material with which it is made is so deadly, it will most likely kill those who try to employ it, quite possibly before it ever gets employed…

Not a particularly high-risk event, if one looks at it without the fear… Danger exists, and so does stupid; together they’re deadly, but, a sharp eye and ear to the ground is generally sufficient protection, if one is mindful about it….

I’ve got enough to worry about without worrying about unlikely scenarios designed (not by you) to stimulate fear…

    1. Nowadays……these toads that call themselves terrorists do not seem to care if they die….fear sells whether it is more spying, more weapons or more rhetoric….and fear is very profitable…and that is the name of the tune these days….chuq

      1. Well, if one stops to think about it, every aspect of human society is based on a childish reaction to fear; it’s a basic facet of our nature, over which only some ever gain control. Religion, government, both are a reaction to the fear of being human, and together, have retarded human progress for 10,000 years…..

SIGH… and fear is so simple to conquer, if one has the courage to face it….

Ah, well, all we can do is all we can do….
