This isn’t about today’s topic, but I just wanted to know if you had heard we in Seattle had elected an avowed Socialist to the city council — Shama Sawant (ironically, a Brahmin from India whose husband works at Microsoft.) She made a statement that to solve the area’s traffic problems Boeing workers should take over the means of production (Boeing factories in the area) and make transit buses. She speaks a constant string of slogans I haven’t heard since my political philosophy class on Marxism/Leninism as an undergraduate 40 years ago. Can this be the start of when workers of the world truly unite? Frankly, if class warfare is inevitable, I am confused about which class camp I fit in – no joke, as a semi-retired teacher I have accumulated a modest savings (401k) – no pension, and I own my home. Am I in the worker class or the privileged class? It is scary to say, but a lot of the rhetoric makes me worry that I am one of those whose property (ill-gotten gains) needs to be re-distributed to the oppressed worker class. Sigh. Where is the middle ground anymore?

      Jeff, you are part of the working class….having means does do not exclude you…..I hate to say it but without substantial improvement in the living standards it looks like that war may truly be on the horizon…..but a full scale socialist take over just ain’t happening….not yet anyway.
