My opinion is that it is alr4eady here and few want to acknowledge it.
In December 2008 Russian prez, Medvedev said….,
“Russia’s interests must be secured by all means available, this is my deep conviction. First of all, by international and legal tools … but, when necessary, by using an element of force,” Reuters quoted Medvedev as saying in his end-of-year interview, broadcast on Russia’s main television stations.
Then in March 2009…….
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev announced today that his nation would begin a “large-scale” rearmament campaign for both its army and navy starting in 2011 in response to persisting threats to the nation’s security.
Pointing to NATO’s continued expansion and the increasing amount of military forces massing along Russia’s western borders. Medvedev warned of “a serious conflict potential” that “requires the quality modernization of our Armed Forces and acquisition of a new advanced appearance by them.”
The Russians have issued the challenge of the use of force when necessary and then announced the massive re-arming venture……but has all been silent since 2009?
Not much has been said until recently………it was the foreign minister this time…….since the US is gearing up for an expanded roll in the Syrian civil war…
“I think we fundamentally will not allow this scenario,” Lukashevich told a news briefing, adding that calls for a no-fly zone showed disrespect for international law.
“All these maneuvers about no-fly zones and humanitarian corridors are a direct consequence of a lack of respect for international law,” Lukashevich said.
He said Russia did not want a scenario in Syria that resembled the events in Libya after the imposition of a no-fly zone which enabled NATO aircraft to help rebels overthrow Muammar Gaddafi.
Appears the Cold War rhetoric of the US and Russia has returned…..and with that return….so has the Cold War.
