We have been ok with the “spying” because of fear and more specifically islamaphobia
Terrorists are a threat to the country at ALL TIMES! –thats the message we have been hearing since 9/11
Thats why we elected people and reelected people who were all in on the war on terror. Its why we loved the Patriot act and the subsequent legislation that surrendered our rights
Hi Daniel, welcome aboard……the key word is “FEAR”……..we will allow much to calm our fear…..unfortunately they sell fear like any other commodity and we buy it every time….
I told people back in 2001/2002 that the Patriot act was like treating a head ache with an axe. The only good part of it was the sunset and then President Obama signed a sunset extension act in 2011.
Yes there will always be terrorists, but treating American’s like terrorists is not the way to protect us. If someone wants that kind of security they can go to jail, the government will provide them with 3 meals a day, all the clothing they need, cable TV and even computer access to the internet. Personally I do not mind providing these things for myself in exchange for not being treated like a prisoner.
To clarify, I do not think that anyone here is calling for a complete prison like state in America. I am saying that too many Americans have been scared by their own government with tales of a bogey man so that they now accept a near prison like culture and will continue to welcome more and more prison like conditions until it will be hard to tell the difference. This is not the first time in history that a government has done this, and those that do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it…. and repeat it we are.
FL, as always good to hear from you……it is not about the people, never is, it is about continuing the terrorism-industrial complex that the last two admins have set up and they continue to need more and more infusion of cash….

This military-industrial (or terrorism-industrial as you put it) complex was set up long before Bush part 2. What scares me is that I do not see a way to stop the chain of funding that MIC. There is no hope of a unified 3rd party because those of us that are sick and tired of the MIC can not agree on the role of the federal government. I prefer a minimalistic small government, most on the left prefer a central planning federal government. So the MIC will continue on feeding on us all through it’s duopoly political system.

The MIC was set up in full force after WW2….Ike warned us about the consequences before he left office….NO one was listening……I guess I am on the Left but if that means Dems then I am a lot further over than that….I believe in central planning, but not on everything…education is one area I think we need it so all the students get a similar education……

You see, education is one of the main places I believe central planning should not be involved at all.
Is there any hope that those that recognize the danger of the MIC can unite?

FL, I say no! Why? Easy answer….fear. It has been used for 50 years with much success….why change now?
See I thibj all people need a quality education….not half ass from one state to another as it is today….privatization of education can only make some wealthier and the students dumber…

I don’t think it is fear that keeps sides apart, unless your afraid of individual freedom… and I don’t think you are. I think it comes down to a difference in our concept of human nature.

FL, by fear I am talking about all the vile speech on all sides….keeps people afraid of others and in doing so they make sure the country is suffering…..
This one makes no sense, could clarify the message a little?
FL, to me to ,means that all who fight ofor transparency have a boot of government on their throat…
