US army confirms to Guardian NSA whistleblower enlisted as a special forces recruit but was discharged four months later. Read this story on the Guardian here.
The US army has confirmed an aspect of surveillance whistleblower Edward Snowden’s military service to the Guardian.
As Snowden told the Guardian in announcing his responsibility for detailing multiple mass surveillance efforts by the National Security Agency sweeping up Americans’ communications data, Snowden indeed tried to join the elite special forces.
Snowden was unsuccessful.
“His records indicate he enlisted in the army reserve as a special forces recruit (18X) on 7 May 2004 but was discharged 28 September 2004,” the US army’s chief civilian spokesman, George Wright, emailed the Guardian on Monday.
“He did not complete any training or receive any awards,”

I highly recommend too that every one view the video between Snowden and journalist Glen Greenwald to get a feel for the man himself. Oddly he doesn’t mention his attempt to join a special forces unit simply because there is nothing to gain. He broke both legs during exercises and was forced out. He neither uses this to build up his creds are condemn the unit who forced him out.
As true as all this may be, it seems most news reports I have seen thus far about Snowden are trying to demonize him and make him look like a failure of sorts. This article however doesn’t seem to be attacking the young man or making negative suggestions.
We need to be careful though that we don’t get caught up in a whitewash of this guy by the corporate media

He’s more trusting than the President, pay attention to what he has to say, and pray pray pray. He is being used by our Heavenly Father, to inform us about our government that lie about everything.
