I wish I had something clever to write about but this election is more disgusting the closer we get to the actual day we choose our next “fearless leader”…….so I will continue with the poems from my youth……..though some of those memories are painful; they still are not as painful as the crap we have with this political season…….
I continue my series on poems from my past……my little coping mechanism……Poem #3 was written in 1968…….the 3rd of March to be exact………I think it will be self-explanatory……..
Waiting–Waiting
Mud is deep,
Panic slowly seeps,
No damn sleep,
Waiting–waiting.
Watching the wire
Tonite could be so dire’
Waiting–waiting
For the order to “FIRE”!
Waiting–waiting.
sweat slowly runs,
Bugs noisily hum,
Heart pounds heavily,
Waiting–waiting.
Sunrise–Nothing,
Waiting–waiting,
What did it harm?
Another false alarm.
Today there will be no sorrow,
But there is always tomorrow.
CHUQ……….
It was a long nite………
Lobotero,
I’m guessing that poem was inspired by the Vietnam War? It’s not bad, actually. It tells an interesting story that I’m sure many people are sympathetic to.
I can’t believe you saved all your poems from back then? LOL. I used to write poems when I was younger, too. I have a couple of them still around, but most of them are missing. And the ones still around? They make me laugh because they’re so terrible. LOL.
Terrance, yes it was from the war and my way of coping with what I saw everyday….I saved them because, as I have said earlier, I kinda thought I would write a book of poetry one day…..I did know they were in the attic until doing repair work from Katrina and found the box they were in……
God I hated perimeter guard watch on that stinking hill north of Da Nang.
Thanks for bringing back those awful memories Dr. Chuq. 😉
Sorry Larry…..they are painful but they made me who I am……..this one was from Tan Tru…..
