There Are Winners And Losers

No matter what game you play there will always be winners and losers and politics is NO different….take the latest game that been playing out for the last 4 or 5 months in Washington…..the good old debt ceiling…….well we have the beginnings  of a debt deal…..hip, hip hoorah!

But you would like to know the winners and the losers……

Washington Post, Chris Cillizza notes the winners:

  • Mitch McConnell was “the Mariano Rivera of the debt deal. He waited until the game was in its final moments, came onto the field and helped close things down.”
  • The Tea Party showed its sway, driving John Boehner to delay his bill and “add conservative sweeteners to get the 217 votes he needed.”
  • President Obama may not have scored with the left, but in 2012, he’s aiming for moderates and independents. “And those fence-sitters love compromise in almost any form.” (Click to hear from two pundits who disagree.)
  • David Wu: “Has a member of Congress forced to resign amid a sex scandal ever drawn less media attention?”

Among the losers:

  • Congress just keeps sinking in the public estimation, particularly “after this high-profile demonstration of brinkmanship and intransigence.”
  • Gang of Six: “The group was supposed to put lie to the idea that true bipartisanship—in which both sides give somewhat equally—was dead.” It didn’t work.
  • Liberals: No revenue? Possible Medicare cuts? “There’s not much for the ideological left to celebrate.”

But let us be real honest…..the real losers in this charade were the American people…you know those people that actually make this country what it use to be….the greatest country in the world……and yes….I said charade!

This whole debate has been a ginned up affair with the Tea Party and the mainstream media as partners to drive a story that was NOT a story……the media decided that this would be the driving story for this 3 month news cycle….there was NOTHING new about this debate….it has been a routine thing for 50 years maybe more and all it took to solve the problem was a one page bill for the Prez to sign…..and the major pundits like to play Repub against Dem and the TP against….well whoever……and seldom did the results of this game make the news on whether it was good for the next election….this was a MEDIA DRIVEN sh*t sandwich!

    1. This is a made up story…the media cannot cover the NO JOBS thing….because it would not drag on for months and the Tea Party jumped on this as their “Cause”…because they have NO answers on how to create jobs,…the very thing that got them elected….

What will be the next ginned up story with collusion with the media?

  1. This bill sucks and is a weak attempt to fix what needs to be fixed. If Obama supports this then I am finally done with the guy. He has demonstrated over and over again that he has no back bone or the will to fight the good fight. He gives and give and gives and gets nothing back in return. This sells all of us out who expended great energy to see this guy get elected.

    1. Larry, sad to say…he is on board. I am still waiting for someone, anyone to please explain how all those budget cuts will insure prosperity for us all. And I wait……..

    2. If you will continue to support an electoral system that not only requires most candidates to sell their souls to the rich before they can even mount a campaign, but almost GUARANTEES that you will have a President who is opposition to Congress after the first two years of his or her term and therefore effectively impotent, what the hell do expect the result to be?

America gets exactly what it’s political/electoral system is designed to produce.

My views are not even left wing – not really even close, but this is simply another example of how the American people get screwed by their system time, after time, after time…

I feel for you guys, but you’ve allowed it to happen, so I fear you really have no one else to blame but yourselves…

      1. Yes! We are idots in that aspect of politics….we are swayed by slogans and bumper stickers….not what is best for the country as a whole…..instead we worry and vote for factionalism….how smart are we? (btw…..factionalism…a future post…..)
