I will give props where props are due…and Pres, Obama gets some for his first trips thruough the country. Our last president , when visiting with the people would talk before a select group of hand picked people as to not have to face any opposition.
Obama went to Elkhart, Ind first…a hot bed of republican voters…next he went to Ft. Myers, Fla. yet another hot bed of Republican voters…but both sites were feeling the crunch of the economy more so than the rest of the country.
Both cases he was greeted with enthusiasm.
I wouldn’t exactly call Elkhart a hot bed of republicans; there’s a sizeable latino population there. If you would listen to my sister-in-law, they’re overrunning the place. Why would someone leave nice warm Mexico to live in cold dreary Elkhart is beyond me.
I’m not sure that Obama has changed that much over Bush. Rumor has it that the reporters who got to ask questions were hand picked before hand. Of course, that person who asked the unpopular question probably would have been promptly drug to a free speech zone under Bush.
I bow to your knowledge on this one….but I had heard that the area round Elkhart was solid Repub…do not know if it is true…just something I read or heard. I am sure that Obama had his wringers in there but for the most part the tickets were first come first served type of thing……that was for both sites.
You might still be right about it being republican. The dynamics up there are changing.
Hi Terrant…I thought I had heard that he picked Elkhart and Ft, Myers because of their heavy Repub voting record in the past……..just looks really good in a photo op and a sound bite.
Asked the wife for some more insight, she said that it probably is that still strongly republican in spite of that large hispanic population. I take that to mean that the hispanics are not voters.
