The recent attacks leveled at the Dem by the GOP scare machine smells like crap.
Faced with dwindling poll numbers and an increasingly hostile political environment created by the economy’s dizzying downward spiral, the Republican campaign of John McCain and Sarah Palin has responded with a virulently right-wing appeal directed to the most politically backward layers in America.
Campaign rallies for the Republican presidential and vice-presidential candidates have taken on an increasingly angry and even violent tone.
Virulent denunciations of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama delivered by Palin at campaign rallies in Florida this week were met with shouts from the crowd of “treason” and, in one case, “kill him.”
At an event in New Mexico, McCain delivered a stock rhetorical line aimed at invoking fears of the Democratic candidate: “Who is Barack Obama?” Without missing a beat, a shout came back from the audience: “terrorist.”
The atmosphere in these Republican events resembles more and more that of a lynch mob. And the continuous attempts to paint Obama as a “traitor” and “terrorist” have the potential of inciting real violence, including attempts on the Democratic candidate’s life.
Yet, the clear aim of the Republican campaign is to link him—and by association, Obama—to the terrorist attacks of September 11, thereby painting the Democratic candidate as a traitor and unfit for office.
The right-wing campaign presently being waged by the Republican Party has ominous implications. While it is highly questionable whether it will shift votes from Obama to McCain, it is serving to mobilize the most reactionary political forces and whip them to a fever pitch.
These forces will not go away after the November election. Given an Obama victory at the polls, they will be utilized to place continuous pressure on the incoming administration, driving it ever further towards the right.
I am sorry to say that I can recall only one guy that tried to whip up the crowd with hate and he stomped across Europe. I realize that I will be attacked for saying that, but what does all the hate crap really accomplish , if not to whip the people into a laver?
I believe about 50000 U.S.A. citizens died during the official conflict in Viet Nam. I also believe that by around 1995, 250000 (yes, a quarter of a million) former servicemen and women had died by ‘their own hand’.
THIS ought to be the primary concern of any who claim to be concerned with the welfare of veterans.
PLEASE can we make this the last war that we abandon the (physical and MENTAL) health of our service-people at the official end of hostilities.
Someone please remind me, have we hit the 100000 casualty-mark since GW declare the end of hostilities in Iraq?

I agree…there is nothing as important as caring for those that gave so much. There never seems to be enough funds to help our vets…why is that?
The recent attacks have been *beyond* low. The Right wing, of course, started hitting below the belt months ago, and now, it’s just out-of-control hatred and prejudice. I can’t believe that some guy even showed up to one of the GOP rallies holding a stuffed monkey doll with an Obama sticker on it. And while McCain is trying to “look” like an honorable man again by coming to Obama’s defense a bit last week, his running mate is still talking about Obama
“palling around” with terrorists. It’s just disgusting that some people are actually buying it.
And yes, McCain voted against funding for the VA many times. He certainly does not have the “best interests” of veterans in mind.
Jenny, have you noticed the ones with the prob with Obama are the old ones, boomers if you will. And yes it is racism, nothing else.
Yes, it’s generally Boomers on up. I personally know of a few McCain supporters by association, who are older and just won’t admit to their outright racism and ignorance, as they make comments such as “I can’t vote for a man with a name like Hussein Osama!”
So damn true….or they use the Muslim thing…I always ask them what issue do they not agree with in his proposals and so far I have not had a good answer. It is sad that the over 50 crowd is so racist, this from the group that wanted to change the world in the 60’s. They are a disappointment to me.
America is blind, McCain votes no on many bills, especially when they are loaded with extra crap that costs you and me money. It’s not a race thing either, Personally I believe there should be a black president, but not Obama. Do you people have any idea what drives wall street? anybody? anybody? The ability to make a profit. when you tax those profits, people dont invest, then there goes the economy. Take a look at what people in europe and the rest of the world think about Obama, They view him as weak and indecicive. Why do you think Biden warned us? He knows! If Obama does make it to be president and is not assasinated, GOD HELP US. I believe America will cease to stand as it was created. We will nolonger be Land of the free and home of the brave. Come to think of it, most of us are chickens anyways. Well, maybe not those of us who are Bitter and cling to our Guns and Religion. Maybe Nostradamus was right, its about time for his final prophecy to come true. Think it over, Obama gets elected, US markets fall, world markets fall, worldwide DEPRESSION, Someone gets upset and suddenly human race nolonger exists. Maybe, I hope not but its something that really troubles me as it should you.
I am 63 and I support Obama! Not all of us older people are republicans. The only way McCain could possibly win is to cheat just as his friend bush did.

“As McCain himself wrote in the U.S. News and World Report on May 14, 1973, after a mere four days in captivity he told his captors, “I’ll give you military information if you will take me to the hospital.” In his autobiography, Faith of My Fathers, McCain elaborated, saying, “I gave them my ship’s name and squadron number, and confirmed that my target had been the power plant.”
Retired Army Colonel Earl Hopper, a 30-year veteran with Airborne Special Services and with Army Intelligence, painted a totally different picture of McCain as a traitorous collaborator who gave a lot more. “He gave highly classified information, the most important of which was the ‘package route’. He revealed in detail the altitude they were flying, the direction, etc. He also named the targets, whether it was a railroad, a bridge, an ammunition or fuel dump. The Vietnamese naturally moved their anti-aircraft defenses into those areas and strengthened them. The result, according to later intelligence, was that we started losing 60% more aircraft and more men than we had earlier. This went on for about a month, and it got so bad, that the US finally called off the bombing of North Vietnam because of the information that McCain had given them.”

Morning Jordan thanx for the comment. I agree with you somewhat…but also the dreaded earmarks, at times are needed domestic spending that is not done by the Congress they are too busy throwing money at two wars to care about the infrastructure or any domestic programs for that matter. Not all earmarkes are useful, but there are some that are needed in various parts of the country and that is about the only way to get them funded.
Taxes–what will happen if NO ONE paid taxes? The country would then collapse and then where will me be. Why cannot everybody pay taxes…I have to pay on my income, then everyone and every business should have to pay. This system is called capitalism…they will make their profits whether they pay tax of not.
Hi Sydney…we are about the same age…I am not a staunch supporter of Obama but I am leaning slightly in his corner. But the article you posted is similar to the “muslim” crap that the right has been spreading…it may be true…I cannot say….I am not one that says he is a hero because he was a POW….that makes him a survivor….he is not a hero because he was in the military….makes him a soldier or sailor…..to use the word hero at every turn, IMO, lessens the acts of true heroes.
I have read some articles along this line but do not
put much credence these are just attacks to lessen a person and I am not much for that. I look at the persons issues and stands. I have made many mistakes in life and feel that anyone is allowed to do the same
