Closing Thought–06Nov19

Remember back a couple of years ago and the XL Pipeline? Remember the protests? Remember the promises that this would be a completely safe endeavor?

The NAs continue to protests and the administration continues to tell the lies of the safety of the pipeline….

With all the silliness around the impeachment process…all the yelling and lying and denials….a story was under reported in the MSM….it seems that the Keystone XL pipeline has sprung a leak……

It just keeps happening over and over and over and……

“I wish I could say I was shocked, but a major spill from the Keystone pipeline is exactly what multiple experts predicted would happen,” Greenpeace USA senior research specialist Tim Donaghy said in a statement. “In fact, this is the fourth significant spill from the Keystone pipeline in less than ten years of operation. History has shown us time and again that there is no safe way to transport fossil fuels, and pipelines are no exception.”

The latest Keystone spill was first detected Tuesday night by TC Energy, the pipeline’s owner, and the extent of the damage to the surrounding areas is not yet known to the public. According to Greenpeace, the leak “is already the eighth-largest pipeline oil spill of the last decade.”

But this sort of thing was not going to happen because of all the safety features incorporated in the design off the pipeline……and yet…..

the Keystone Pipeline spilled about 383,000 gallons of crude oil in North Dakota.

It’s nothing short of an environmental disaster — and it probably won’t be the last time that the particularly-leaky pipeline spills, experts told The New York Times. The pipeline, which the U.S. government said in 2011 would pose “no significant impact” to the area, has now flooded half an acre of wetland with toxic sludge.

Too late…..the spills happen as predicted but no one cared and the fix was in….and the spills continue….as well as the lies about the pipe line safety.

The Veterans Are Coming!

The protests around the DAPL have been going on now for months…the NAs are trying to protect their land from a pipeline and the reactions by the company and the government have been anything but civil…the use of dogs, rubber bullets, gas, water on cold days….etc etc….

The news has come out that there is a contingent of veterans heading to North Dakota in support of the protesters…..

The thousands of protesters already camped out in defiance of the Dakota Access Pipeline are about to get reinforcements in the form of hundreds of veterans, Stars and Stripes reports. As many as 2,000 vets will arrive in North Dakota on Sunday with the goal of “protecting the protesters,” Marine Corps veteran Anthony Diggs says. “There is a lot of power in veterans from all over, from all branches of the military, coming together to create a protecting front against the police, who are militarized themselves,” he says. But the vets aren’t just bringing symbolism; they’ve raised around half a million dollars to help protesters get through the winter and are bringing supplies, lawyers, and more.

The vets are expected to arrive the day before the Army Corp of Engineers had ordered protesters to abandon their camp on federal land. But while the Army Corps has since said it won’t force protesters off the land, North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple issued an “emergency evacuation” of the camp Monday in the face of an oncoming blizzard, Reuters reports. The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe says it has no plans to move, and its chairman points out it’s ironic that Dalrymple is suddenly concerned about cold protesters days after police sprayed them with fire hoses. Contrary to previous reports, Dalrymple won’t block food and supplies from getting to protesters as part of the evacuation, according to the AP. A spokesperson says that had been “misconstrued.”

If I were in charge I would put the vets camp between the military force and the NAs….

I wish I were younger…I traveled to Wounded Knee in 1973 but was detained before I could make it to the Rez…..

Hopefully the assistance will be useful……maybe the thugs will show more respect to the vets than they have shown to the NAs……but my guess is ….NO!

Wanna Talk XL—Again?

Any day now I expect the Prez to approve the Keystone XL deal.  Do you know why it is called Keystone XL?  (Pause here for the Google search)………there is already a Keystone pipeline…….the XL is for the expansion to make it LARGER.  As a matter of fact the existing Keystone is in the news as I type………

Newser) – Ten surviving “oiled ducks” and two dead ones have turned up following a pipeline leak in Arkansas, Exxon Mobil says. “I’m an animal lover, a wildlife lover, as probably most of the people here are,” says a local judge. “We don’t like to see that.” The air around the town of Mayflower smells like oil, the AP reports, and two front lawns have been soaked by the stuff. An Exxon rep says there’s “no indication” of health dangers, but the spill’s cause remains a mystery as Exxon workers clean up.

The company was fined in 2010 for a failure to inspect another part of the Pegasus oil line often enough, Reuters notes. As of yesterday, the company still hadn’t dug up the ground around the leak. Meanwhile, the disruption of the line, which runs from Patoka, Illinois, to Nederland, Texas, continued to fuel debate over the Keystone XL pipeline. The Pegasus line transported oil similar to what the Keystone pipeline would carry, Bloomberg notes, and there’s controversy over whether this diluted bitumen is more corrosive than regular crude. Last year saw 364 US pipeline spills totaling 54,000 barrels. National Geographic has more photos of the latest spill.

That’s right, sports fans….the disaster occurring in Arkansas is part of the existing Keystone pipeline…….it is oil from the sands of Alberta that is polluting central Arkansas……got that?

The pipeline will hire many construction workers, if approved……but once finished those jobs will be gone.  The oil flowing through the completed pipeline does NOT belong to the US…..it is Canadian oil…..and the Canadians will sell it to the highest bidder….it will NOT make the US independent.

The political line is that the US will be the number one oil producing country in the world by 2020……the truth is that the oil companies will be the producers not the country…….it is a political game to claim otherwise…it is disingenuous…..

Then we have people like Pickens that is pushing nat gas……and is saying that this will make us more independent…….the truth there is that nat gas will fluctuate in price like oil and the will be no cheaper than any other form of fossil fuel……again the country will not be producing the gas…….companies will and companies will trade it, like oil, in the spot markets…..

As always…..there is only one way for the country to profit from oil production…..and NO one likes it……but if you want cheaper oil then there is only one way to achieve the price decrease…….

More On The Palin Pipeline

Gov. Sarah Palin’s signature accomplishment — a contract to build a 1,715-mile pipeline to bring natural gas from Alaska to the Lower 48 — emerged from a flawed bidding process that narrowed the field to a company with ties to her administration, an Associated Press investigation shows.

Beginning at the Republican National Convention in August, the McCain-Palin ticket has touted the pipeline as an example of how it would help America achieve energy independence.

“We’re building a nearly $40 billion natural gas pipeline, which is North America’s largest and most expensive infrastructure project ever, to flow those sources of energy into hungry markets,” Palin said during the Oct. 2 vice presidential debate.

Despite Palin’s boast of a smart and fair bidding process, the AP found that her team crafted terms that favored only a few independent pipeline companies and ultimately benefited the winner, TransCanada Corp.

_Instead of creating a process that would attract many potential builders, Palin slanted the terms away from an important group — the global energy giants that own the rights to the gas.

_Despite promises and legal guidance not to talk directly with potential bidders, Palin had meetings or phone calls with nearly every major candidate, including TransCanada.

_The leader of Palin’s pipeline team had been a partner at a lobbying firm where she worked on behalf of a TransCanada subsidiary. Also, that woman’s former business partner at the lobbying firm was TransCanada’s lead private lobbyist on the pipeline deal, interacting with legislators in the weeks before the vote to grant TransCanada the contract. Plus, a former TransCanada executive served as an outside consultant to Palin’s pipeline team.

_Under a different set of rules four years earlier, TransCanada had offered to build the pipeline without a state subsidy; under Palin, the company could receive a maximum $500 million.

Have you heard any of this in the TV media?
