Welcome To Refugee Island

(I should insert the theme from the old TV series “Fantasy Island”…..but that would be a bit much even for me)

Plus this article is pressed from the WaPo….I am not thrilled with this paper for it is as much a propaganda tool as it is a “news” source….

With all the stuff in the news about the plight of all the refugees from conflict one might think that this post would be about the Greek isle known as Lesbos….or refugee island.

Sorry to say that if that is what you think then you will be wrong.

The conflicts, especially those in the Middle East, have created a world problem…..people fleeing from these wars……the world knows them by their media designation….REFUGEES.

There are lots of opinions but most have NO footing in reality…..for you see most people are too damn lazy to research cause and effect….so they prattle on about something they have NO idea of what it truly encompasses.

There has been lots written on the possible solutions to this problem.  For me it is simple…if a country help create the problem then they are part of the solution.  But I am a lonely person with this…..

There are many that feel that these people are just looking for freebies….or a path to help destroy the “West”…..personally, it is just people that are trying to out run war and find a safe place for their families…..

There is one idea for a solution that I found that is a bit unusual…..please read and tell me what you think…..

Europe is now years into a refugee crisis of historic proportions, and, frankly, there’s no end in sight. Even well-intentioned efforts to stem the crisis have struggled: One high-profile diplomatic arrangement designed to cut the migration route through Turkey and Greece into Eastern Europe appears to have unintentionally diverted refugees toward even more perilous journeys from North Africa across the Mediterranean. The Institute of Migration says at least 1,000 people have died making that journey in the past week alone.

The sheer intractability of the problem has spawned a number of wild suggestions for imaginative — though not necessarily practical — solutions. The latest may be one of the most audacious: a proposal to build a man-made island off the coast of Tunisia that would serve as a haven for refugees hoping to make it to Europe.

Would you get behind this solution?  Would this be a more humane solution than the options now ahead of these people?

If you do not like this solution….do you have one as an alternative?

How to Make a Refugee Crisis

Warning:  this press is from a group that has pro-Russian leanings……as well  as some sources from Europe and Palestine……with that said…..these are still a good pieces on the refugee crisis now being faced by the world….

Plus as this election process enters in the “end time” I am sure that the whole situation around refugees will once again be burning up the blogosphere….but I believe there is more to this refugee thing than who gets who…..

Recently I wrote a post that ask the question…..can migration be used as a weapon?

Source: Is Migration Used As A Weapon? – In Saner Thought

I have been looking for some good intel that would help answer that question………

The NEO article takes a look at the issue…..again it is from the perspective of Russia and should be viewed through that prism…..none the less an interesting take on the situation…..

Starting in 2007, the US was already in the process of engineering the overthrow and destruction of all prevailing political orders across the Middle East and North African (MENA) region. It would be in Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Seymour Hersh’s 2007…

I have been asking a question about the refugee crisis facing the world and in asking the question…”are the refugees being used as a weapon?” I have found many opinions and some excellent work trying to explain the situation……

Russia and Syria are deliberately using migration as an aggressive strategy towards Europe, the senior Nato commander in Europe has said.

US Gen Philip Breedlove said they were “weaponising” migration to destabilise and undermine the continent.

He also suggested that criminals, extremists and fighters were hiding in the flow of migrants.

Of course the main point that many want to make is there may be “bad guys” hiding in the massive amounts of refugees…all waiting to find a new home and once they do they will commence their assaults on the West…..the loudest voices are from people that have NEVER heard a shot fired in anger or witnessed the obscenities of war first hand….instead they take their opinions from puke masters like Breitbart, WND, Infowars and other such hate filled rags.

This situation like most situations in the Middle East has two sides….one the compassionate side and two, a louder warning of extremists attacks from within the numbers of refugees……but there is a story with the militarization of refugees…….

Current events in Syria and the broader Middle East have brought forth the idea of “militarized” refugees.  This is not a new concept but in its present incarnation comes most clearly from General Breedlove – a misnomer if there ever was one – who said, “These indiscriminate weapons used by both Bashar …

Personally, I think that this crisis is one of war in that the flow of refugees are being used to further the agenda of some shadowy figures that have a master plan…..I do not think there is a massive amount of “terrorists” hidden within the ranks….basically just people trying to find a safe place for their families and a better life……do not misunderstand….I am NOT saying there will be no violence from within the ranks of the migrants…just that most are not plotting the demise of the West.

The plan has worked!  The fear that is spreading is turning rational people into extremists themselves…..they are turning on their neighbors and are suspicious of anyone that does not conform to the “approved” thinking….political systems are in disarray and passions are running at a feverish pitch…..all in all using the migrants as a weapon is working and working well.

There is only one sure way to end this crisis…..the problem is no one in the leadership role is willing to suggest it and few will even consider the possibility of end this situation…..until the solution is found there will continue to be this massive movement of people trying to outrun war……

I leave you with a closing quote….”And the things that we fear are used as a weapon against us”…..I realize few want to hear this but it is very true and it is working.

Is Migration Used As A Weapon?

Recently there was much to do about the sheer numbers of refugees fleeing the fighting in Syria….the conversation has been heated at times and damn right ugly at others…..the world is struggling to find an answer to the problem of this mass migration……and sadly too many do not what it means to be a refugee and on the run to try and save what is left of one’s family……

That is a whole set of posts to try and explain and then most of the effort will be in vain…..because few care!

I have been studying war since my days at university….it is a complex situation that has many ways of approaching it….my interests came from serving in the US Army in Vietnam and the obscenity of war fascinated me….and I have spent 40+ years trying to understand the concept.

The hot button issue of the day is of course ISIS/ISIL/IS/ whatever……mostly we hear the promises of candidates to end this war and bring about the demise of this barbaric violent cult……but sadly I have heard NOTHING that would make me confident that the speakers have any idea of what a defeat would involve….and yet they continue to rattle on….and on….and……

Meanwhile back to the original thought……the crush of refugees…..is it possible that this was by design and not a side effect?

About here someone has got to be asking ……what the Hell?  Right?

In recent years, it has been widely argued that a new and different armament – i.e., the refugee as weapon – has entered the world’s arsenals. But just how new and different is this weapon? Can it only be used in wartime? And just how successful has been its exploitation? Using a combination of statistical data and case study analysis, this article tackles these questions and provides a detailed examination of the instrumental manipulation of population movements as political and military weapons of war. In addition to ‘mapping the terrain’ of the issue by providing a comprehensive typology of the most common means by – and desired ends for – which displaced persons have been used as political and military weapons since the end of the Cold War, the author also provides a portrait of the identities of the kinds of actors most likely to engage in this kind of exploitation. She also proposes an explanation for what motivates them to resort – and apparently increasingly so – to the use of this unconventional policy tool, despite the reputational and potential retributive costs of doing so.

The question is, in today’s situation, are the flow of refugees by design……is it being used to overwhelm the policies of a targeted country?

A short synopsis of a study of the topic…..by Kelly M. Greenhill in the book “Weapons of Mass Migration”…….

At first glance, the U.S. decision to escalate the war in Vietnam in the mid-1960s, China’s position on North Korea’s nuclear program in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and the EU resolution to lift what remained of the arms embargo against Libya in the mid-2000s would appear to share little in common. Yet each of these seemingly unconnected and far-reaching foreign policy decisions resulted at least in part from the exercise of a unique kind of coercion, one predicated on the intentional creation, manipulation, and exploitation of real or threatened mass population movements.

In Weapons of Mass Migration, Kelly M. Greenhill offers the first systematic examination of this widely deployed but largely unrecognized instrument of state influence. She shows both how often this unorthodox brand of coercion has been attempted (more than fifty times in the last half century) and how successful it has been (well over half the time). She also tackles the questions of who employs this policy tool, to what ends, and how and why it ever works. Coercers aim to affect target states’ behavior by exploiting the existence of competing political interests and groups, Greenhill argues, and by manipulating the costs or risks imposed on target state populations.

This “coercion by punishment” strategy can be effected in two ways: the first relies on straightforward threats to overwhelm a target’s capacity to accommodate a refugee or migrant influx; the second, on a kind of norms-enhanced political blackmail that exploits the existence of legal and normative commitments to those fleeing violence, persecution, or privation. The theory is further illustrated and tested in a variety of case studies from Europe, East Asia, and North America. To help potential targets better respond to—and protect themselves against—this kind of unconventional predation, Weapons of Mass Migration also offers practicable policy recommendations for scholars, government officials, and anyone concerned about the true victims of this kind of coercion—the displaced themselves.

The question remains……is the migration of people in the Middle East being used as a weapon?
