Will You Let The Constitution Die?

In the past few years there have been many assaults and damages to our beloved Constitution…..but there is more to come and in the ashes of our society the Constitution will not be there to help us move forward.

The Constitution has been weakened when we lose our free choice and that is happening almost daily.

I read a good explanation of why this upcoming election is so damn important……

It seems almost inconsequential with all that has transpired since.

A quick search demonstrates follow-up reporting, This month CNN published “Trump’s Avalanche of Dishonesty: Fact checking 102 False Claims from This Fall.”

I don’t consider myself a political writer. In fact, until Donald Trump’s first run for President, virtually everything I published dealt with introspection and making changes in one’s life. Then I listened to the Republican primary debates in 2016.

In what seems like a life time ago, I taught sixth grade. If you recall the Republican Primary and Donald Trump’s outrageous behavior you’ll understand. He reminded me of a sixth grade student who I watched break a window, and when he turned around and saw me, he said, “I didn’t do it.”

Thus began five years of publishing articles. I advocated for political candidates, encouraged everyone to vote even if they weren’t thrilled with the Democratic party’s choice for President. Futilely I explained that not voting is the same as supporting the candidate you don’t want elected.

Now it’s happening again. I fear many citizens are tired of politics and the two presumptive candidates don’t excite them. Many will not vote. That’s unfortunate… no I take that back… It Will Be a Disaster.

Are You Ready to Let Our Constitution Crash and Burn?

I agree with the article…..Every time SCOTUS makes a ruling we seem to lose a little more of the Constitution.

Many Americans who worship at the cult of personality are doing more damage to this country than any imaginary Russian fifth column could ever do…..and they do it with no thought beyond their hatred and stupidity.

Now would be a good time to take a hard look at what you want for this country before you make your decision on who to vote for in November.

  1. They are dismantling your rights in plain sight, and at least half of the population doesn’t seem to care less about it. Only once it is too late will they start to cry and complain.

    Best wishes, Pete.

  2. Methinks all sides in this should consider something else other than who is “shredding” the Constitution. You see, to me the Constitution becomes a non-functioning document when we stop using it and gravitate toward other avenues less “democratic”. Now.. “using it” to me means we believe in the processes afforded in it’s content and the institutions it creates for our check & balances. We believe to settle our differences by having faith in following it to remedy our differences.

Most certainly we can challenge how we may want to apply social changes, advances in technology, political trends and morale ideals, etc. as they relate to the stated freedoms the Constitution provides… IF we follow it. Our society determines our elected officials and what we want those officials to carry forward in our best interests. The Constitution does NOT pass judgement on who we vote into office or the reasons we might want them in office, but rather the process by which we vote them in, and certain remedies on their conduct while in office.

What IS happening is that a segment of our population has felt “un” or under represented and has grievance. This carries forward into not having faith that our institutions are working in their behalf, or more to the point they believe government is out “to get them” or limit their freedoms. A fairly large segment of our population simply has little or no faith in the Constitution they claim is being violated somehow…. and they simply don’t want to follow the process of representative government to “fix” the things they seem to think they need to fix. Traditionally this segment of the population, which in some form has always existed, has become more emboldened with Trump as their megaphone.. or Maga-phone. But even at that, that crowd does include folks bent on our Constitutional process itself being the problem. The real threat is that element of anarchistic, economically and academically challenged, that has always been in America since 1789 that seem to value the pioneer/Wild West aspect of “living life free or die” from people elsewhere telling them what to do and how to act.

Maga is one thing. Use the Constitution to compromise. Outright defiance of the Constitutional process is the real threat. That’s how we exercise our freedoms.

    1. First of all….it is nice to see you again….everybody seems to be an expert on the Constitution these days…..the document is a good document we need to focus on SCOTUS for they are the societal referees. Please do not be a stranger. chuq

      1. I’m always lurking about, chuq. :) Just not as overly engaged these days given other projects. And yep… everyone interprets the “C” differently…. and… everyone interprets the intent of the Founders differently as well. I may have mentioned this before… but it gives me pause that the two governing references in our lives, the Bible for our spiritual guide, and the Constitution, our governmental guide, were written, in one case 2,000 years ago, and the other, 250 years ago…. before any resemblance to our current use of language, or any concept of our current technological development… and our entire battle is disputing the interpretation of both. You’d think we would update both to be relevant to the times… but we can’t do that.

      2. No we cannot…..that requires thinking and decision making both concepts are becoming alien to many. I am always glad to see when you visit. chuq

      1. Old, tired and corrupt choices —or wet-behind-the-ears neophytes with more ambition than common sense.
