Our “Pledge To America”….(Yawn)

From the VOMITORIUM

There has been a “Contract with America” and a “Road Map for America” and now we have their “Pledge To America”…..This is just a re-tool of the 1994 document…..apparently, they hope that NO one can remember back 16 years ago…well…they failed on my part….I recall the games that have been played and believe me this is a game and the only loser will be YOU!

For a breakdown of the document, check out “Pledge to America: The New Republican Agenda,” by CBS News Senior Political Producer Jill Jackson. Below are some highlights, and the full document is at the bottom.

Jobs:

– Stop job-killing tax hikes

– Allow small businesses to take a tax deduction equal to 20 percent of their income  (This is a good one…since they are NOT talking about real small businesses of 25 employees or less, but rather the multi-million dollar corporations that can claim the title thanx to the massive tax code.)

– Require congressional approval for any new federal regulation that would add to the deficit

– Repeal small business mandates in the new health care law.

Cutting Spending:

– Repeal and Replace health care

– Roll back non-discretionary spending to 2008 levels before TARP and stimulus (will save $100 billion in first year alone)

– Establish strict budget caps to limit federal spending going forward

– Cancel all future TARP payments and reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac

Reforming Congress:

– Will require that every bill have a citation of constitutional authority

– Give members at least 3 days to read bills before a vote

(None of these will reform Congress…it is more of a delaying game than a fix…besides sounds good in the bites they release to the media….a game)

Defense:

– Provide resources to troops

– Fund missile defense

– Enforce sanctions in Iran

(Now here is the telling part of this “Pledge”……3 little mentions to the industry that depends on the GOP for its massive profit from lucrative contracts…this one was purposefully avoided)

Buried somewhere in the 21 pages was the traditional GOP stands….

The GOP pledge reiterates the party’s opposition to abortion rights and gay marriage, and promises to keep trials of suspected terrorists off U.S. soil and in military, rather than civilian, courts. Republican leaders are also vowing to boost funding for a missile defense shield and allow state and local law enforcement officials to enforce federal immigration laws.

There you are…the “new” ideas from the GOP….the only problem is that it is a re-hash of the 1994 “Contract With America” and another re-hash of the same “Contract” was last year’s GOP “Roadmap For America’s Future” and now we have their “Pledge”…

This should worry the Repub faithful….why?  There is NOTHING new in their ideas…it is the same lame, vague promises they always make and somehow never get to the point where they implement them…..

Personally, I want to see new ideas…..anyone and I mean ANYONE can re-hash from the past…..IMO, it shows a serious lack of imagination or will to actually make things better in Washington…..

  1. Sometimes new ideas suck, wolf.

(I think “wolf” sounds sexier than lobo.)

Anyway, we need a renewed contract/pledge/promise/whatever. I certainly wasn’t old enough to vote in 1994, and since 1994 it would seem that the GOP has forgotten what it was supposed to stand for.

This reminds me of some words from C.S. Lewis in his book Mere Christianity:

Progress means not just changing, but changing for the better. . . . If you are on the wrong road, progress means doing an about turn and walking back to the right road; and in that case the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive man.

    1. Exactly…….but so do the same ideas that have not approved to help…somewhere there has got to be good conservative ideas that will work and will return the US to its place in the world…….I just want some new ideas from politicians…I am old and have listened to a lot of rhetoric and promises and NOTHING has changed, except the names of the fools doing the speaking……

And thanx…..my mother was a Jicarilla Apache and my name is Chuqas Garithalay and in Spanish lobotero…in English Pale Wolf Hunts Standing…..just thought I would let you know….and thanx again…..wink wink….lol

      1. Isn’t the idea of shrinking the government a new one? Good grief, when was the last time we actually cut bureaucracy rather than added to it? I know you’re a history buff, and I certainly don’t know the answer.

Heck, even Russia plans to cut 20% of its bloated government.

And this is off-topic, but I was listening to Representative Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Tx) on CSPAN this afternoon. I wanted to reach through the radio and slap her silly.

The way she talks, the minute a person makes $200,000 a year (or a family makes $250,000 a year–talk about a marriage penalty) they are no longer a part of the machine that keeps this country going. They are no longer one of those hard-working Americans who gets up and works their asses off day-in and day-out. And they are no longer deserving of a tax break.

        Ugh. Marxist b*tch.

      2. Actually the idea is not new…..implementation would be……

You know the way I read the thingy is that the taxes would go up on everything after $250,000….up to that point all stays the same….so if one’s income is 1% above the limit then that is the only part that is taxed….but of course, that could change overnight, like all other programs…..

      3. But how does the middle and lower classes justify their greed for wealth that doesn’t belong to them?

It’s like we’re willing to be more poor just so that the well-off can’t become more wealthy.

        What’s wrong with us?

      4. Easy answer….Human Nature…especially these days….we all want something for nothing and dislike those that have…and you can say the same about corporations they want more and more and have NO problem taking from the people’s money….like bailouts.

      5. Yes, the bailouts were downright immoral. I couldn’t believe that we were actually giving/loaning money to companies who had made downright moronic business decisions…of course, nevermind that those decisions were based on a market manipulated by the government.

It’s sick. All of it. And the class warfare provoked and prodded by the media and the government is also morally warped. Do they ever talk about income mobility, for example? Oh, heck no. The very idea that someone can move from lower class to upper class in 15 years through hard work and ingenuity completely annihilates their premise that the rich keep the poor down, and the middle class is really the only thing that matters when it comes to work and producing wealth in this country.

      6. The way things are going….then one could make a case for a sort of class war……I mean corporations get everything they need and the people get NOTHING…..by people I am speaking of the average middle class American, who has lost grounds on salaries, living conditions, etc for the last 30 years……the middle class keeps this country going……when that is gone and it is disappearing slowly but surely then who will pay the bills? Those people that do not want to see that the middle class is disappearing are just sticking their heads in the sand and with that their butts are exposed to the ravages of the government and unscrupulous……
