I Knew There Was A Good Reason

A good burger is hard to beat….I am always looking for that perfect chunk of ground meat with bleu cheese and a good spicy mustard…..From Mallorca to Bangkok…..and all spots in between….I knew there was a perfect good reason why I am always searching for the next best burger……

According to the UK’s Telegraph:

American researchers found burgers, chips and sausages programmed a human brain into craving even more sugar, salt and fat laden food.

Scientists at the Scripps Research Institute in Florida found laboratory rats became addicted on a bad diet just like people who became dependent on cocaine and heroin.

While the findings cannot be directly transferred to human obesity, it found that overconsumption of high-calorie food triggered addiction-like responses in the brain.

But the study, published online in Nature Neuroscience, suggests for the first time that our brains may react in the same way to junk food as it does to drugs.

Dr Paul Kenny, a neuroscientist who led the research, said the study, which took nearly three years to complete, confirmed the “addictive” properties of junk food.

Dammit!  Is everything illegal, addictive or immoral?

  1. What does the song say about things you enjoy? “They are illegal, immoral, or they make you fat,” I believe.

Yet another bunch of hugely expensive studies that were specifically designed to prove that 2+2=4 and that most kids could have figured out for themselves.

Humans and probably most other animals are naturally addictive creature – it’s what teaches us in the wild that one thing is good and another is bad.

Most foods that we like give us a “high” – a rush of energy of some sort – and that’s what we like. It’s only in our modern world of plenty (far too much?) that we can actually HAVE what we want whenever we want it.

Most things they like are, in moderation, good for humans and most things in excess are bad for them.

Which is actually another reason why the welfare state can be bad for us – because going without can be good for humans (again, in moderation).

Incidentally, talking of the “learned” part of addiction, I believe that a study a while back showed that volunteers fed a placebo they thought was herion (or something similar) got high – just as if they’d had the real thing. Now THAT study was worth doing! The power of the mind if only we could control it, eh? 😆

    1. I just want to know how I could get on the grant money lists for some of these “studies”……I remember back in the days that I was a soldier MIT got a million dollar grant to study the military applications of a frisbee….they put rzors on it, and hung grenades from it and ….well so on…..I said I had a good thought….use it for recon work…..throw it over a rise and if it comes back…then there is someone over there…..I mean….ya gotta throw back, right?

With a million dollar grant….I would have spent $1.99 on the frisbee and used $999,998 for “administrative” costs……not a bad deal huh?

      1. Boomerangs with cameras (NOT grenades as some dipsicks would I’m sure suggest) on might be another one, huh? 😆

      2. Oh and – Yeah! Me too! Grants for studies – yet another form of welfare! 😆

      3. corporate welfare…….that has been around as long if not longer than human welfare…….there would be NO budgetary crisis if these assholes would close the gaps in the contracts…..look at the new “virtual” fence for the US and Mexico border……Boeing did the work a year ago…it was a failure in the start up and Boeing got more money to fix it…it still does NOT work……..Boeing got paid for a failure and paid again to fix their failure…..that does not happen in the world of small business…if you fail you suck it up or go bust……this is why so many would kill to get on the defense contract list……

  2. Excellent weblog! I really love how it is simple on my eye balls and also the information are very well created.
