A long-term truce between the Palestinian militant group Hamas and Israel may be announced within days, Hamas officials said in Cairo.
Moussa Abu Marzouk, a deputy leader of Hamas, said the truce would be announced within 48 hours.
“We have agreed to the truce with the Israeli side for one year and a half [in return] for the opening of all six passages between the Gaza Strip and Israel, and the halting of all military activity and aggression,” he was quoted as saying by the Egyptian state news agency Mena.
Hamas, he added, would first have to consult with other Palestinian factions.
Taher al-Nono, a member of Hamas’s negotiating team in Cairo, was earlier quoted by Reuters as saying that the deal would be announced within three days.
“Most of the obstacles that prevented us from reaching an agreement were resolved,” he said.
A step in the right direction…now if the two sides can just keep their fingers off the triggers then there could be a chance of real progress for a lasting peace…..we can only hope.
yet at this time more rockets fall in southern Israel
Robert thanx for the visit….I know that is just unacceptable…..just as ANY civilian deaths or injuries is unacceptable….maybe just take leaders out and let them fight a duel and declare a winner from there….leave ALL civilians out of it.
i agree. but all our leaders (israels) have fought over the years theirs hide behind their civilans and tell them that they are dying for the will of Allah… etc etc ad nausiem….. it’s an on going thing. one day they are the brave fighters the next they bail on the uniform and put on civvies and hide in with the general population .. they never come out to play fair. if you get my drift.
I worked in Gaza for ovver 2 and a half years and have seen it all to clearly.. one day you say give them what they want. the next you are getting stitches in your forehead and wanting to rent it out to SAC for a practice range…
Robert I understand what you are saying and I appreciate your insight into the situation………I think that there has got to be common ground for a peace…I know that may sound naive and the war has become an institution and could be difficult to find such grounds but there needs to be a concerted effort on ALL sides….the only thing that warfare accomplishes is bloodshed and death….there has been enough of that on both sides of the conflict for way too long…..
An old saying that stands so true that it hurts.
“the ones that desire peace the most are the ones that end up fighting for it in the first place.” we have wanted peace from day one. we pull back they keep coming,. we take another step back and they keep coming. to put it in american terms.
you sit at a bar. some guy comes up to you and says “you are sitting in my seat” so you get up and move …….. ten minutes later this same guy comes up to you and again says “you are sitting in my seat” this time you deck the aqss klown cause if you move again it will never stop…
Israel will not be the bitch of anyone…
One thing though. why Israel? why don’t people freak out about the kurds being mauled by turkey? or the Tamls? or the rest of the world? why does it alway have to be israel to get reamed by folks? is it because we are supposed to calmly walk into the oven and not say a thing? I wonder!
More good points…I for one do not think that Israel should be anyone’s “bitch” and I have written about many things in the ME in the past….this is my personal opinion and not everyone’s, but I think the US government has set Israel up to a higher standard than others and for that reason it has opened them up to more harsh criticism. I for one do not want Israel to “throw their hands up and walk anywhere, they deserve their place just as anyone does.
I have fought 2 official wars for my country and several unofficial….I came back from one with much of my body left behind…so I am not a fan of war in anyway….I feel that when it slips into bloodshed then the humanity has left the area. There has got to be a better way to make your point than killing.
I’m also a bit of a lifer… been places i would wish on Hitler if you get my meaning. 😉 check the about me section of my blog to see more…..
I’m not a fan of it either but I’m always willing to put the uniform on when called.
read your “About”…sounds way too familiar…for me it is time for someone else to “protect and serve” I have given all the body I am going to donate….I have become rather fond of the parts I have left….
