Battle Of The Collars

Funny, amusing, not ha ha funny, that doing the election the workers and saving the middle class was all the rage.  But now it seems to be not as important as it once was.

Remember during the primary season, before Edwards dropped out, he said that there were two Americas.  And if you recall a lot of the media beat him up because of the statement.  So far with the economic crisis I have seen nothing that would dispute his observation.

Since the beginning Washington, both the Bush and the Obama admin, have done all they could to save the financial industry.  The people that gave us the meltdown of today.  And with the other hand slapping the workers around,  forcing them to give up many of the concessions that were won in past negotiations.

When Obama declares that the proposals submitted by GM and Chrysler are inadequate, the principal object of his attack is the working class. To carry out a “fundamental restructuring,” Obama said, “will require unions and workers who have already made extraordinarily painful concessions to do more.”

Wages will be slashed further; work rules will be gutted to increase exploitation; health coverage, pensions and other benefits will be slashed or eliminated. Immediately targeted are the medical benefits of hundreds of thousands of retirees.

And yet none of this was required of WallStreet, such units as AIG or Citigroup as if those institutions were somehow better than the auto industry and did not need to give up anything to get government bailout.

Back in January of this year I predicted that there was going to be a coming war of the collars and looks as if I was a seer.  Ask yourself, why is Wall Street immune to the strict painful scrutiny of the government.

Someone Mentioned This Before

Remember back in the day, the early days of the primary season, when John Edwards constantly talked about the existence of 2 Americas.  One was the world of the wealthy and the other was the reality of the working class.  I believe everyone scoffed at him for suggesting this premise.  But right now, he looks like a profit, with the situation that has developed in the last month or so.

Look at the bailout!  Who does it help the most?  Now look at those who oppose it the most.  In case you have missed it, it is two different sectors of the American people.  I believe that we could call it two different classes.  If we do call them two different classes, would that not be the same as saying two different Americas?

Many seem afraid to address this turn.  Why?  To admit it would be admitting that there are inequalities that exist in this country.  Even the Dems who profess to be the voice of the middle class seem to be afraid to admit to the inequalities that exist.  They look for cute little slogans to say something without actually saying it.

Appears that Edwards had it right all along.  The people are starting to see that the two Americas are a fact and they are the pawns being used to sure up the economy and bailout the wealthy.

Edwards Statement

I was not gonna touch this because every little mind has wrapped around it and there is a wealth of opinions on Edwards’ character. Personally, do not care where he parked his car. That is between him and his family. Unfortunately, the media needs this scandal to justify their reporting on BS and the ignoring of the real issues of the election.

This is John Edwards statement to the country and his supporters.
August 8, 2008

Chapel Hill, North Carolina

In 2006, I made a serious error in judgment and conducted myself in a way that was disloyal to my family and to my core beliefs. I recognized my mistake and I told my wife that I had a liaison with another woman, and I asked for her forgiveness. Although I was honest in every painful detail with my family, I did not tell the public. When a supermarket tabloid told a version of the story, I used the fact that the story contained many falsities to deny it. But being 99% honest is no longer enough.

I was and am ashamed of my conduct and choices, and I had hoped that it would never become public. With my family, I took responsibility for my actions in 2006 and today I take full responsibility publicly. But that misconduct took place for a short period in 2006. It ended then. I am and have been willing to take any test necessary to establish the fact that I am not the father of any baby, and I am truly hopeful that a test will be done so this fact can be definitively established. I only know that the apparent father has said publicly that he is the father of the baby. I also have not been engaged in any activity of any description that requested, agreed to or supported payments of any kind to the woman or to the apparent father of the baby.

It is inadequate to say to the people who believed in me that I am sorry, as it is inadequate to say to the people who love me that I am sorry. In the course of several campaigns, I started to believe that I was special and became increasingly egocentric and narcissistic. If you want to beat me up – feel free. You cannot beat me up more than I have already beaten up myself. I have been stripped bare and will now work with everything I have to help my family and others who need my help.

I have given a complete interview on this matter and having done so, will have nothing more to say.

Again I do not care–but for those that have to have this type of crap –knock yourself out!

John Edwards: Gone But Not Forgotten

Has anyone else noticed that in the last month or so, Edwards positions on the working people have become more appealing to the 2 remaining candidates?  His speeches on empowering the working stiff has got more play recently.  Clinton has made his stands her own, especially the rhetoric about a gas tax holiday, jobs and who she is trying to sway–white, blue collar, low education rural voter.  The campaign put Bubba to work on that gig.

Bill has used the term “elitist” so many times referring to Obama that it became so redundant that he was boring, if Bubba could ever be boring.  The campaign wrote off the black vote and went to the Edwards ploy of trying to appeal to the white working class.  If Edwards could have appealed to the over 40 white women then he could have nmade it a bit further, but that would have meant a gender operation in Sweden.

Now that Hillary is all but eliminated, the gas tax holiday that was so important for a couple of days has died in the media.  Clinton loses and ther “good idea” is no longer news…,,cool huh?

Edwards came out just before the Indiana and North Carolina, and did not endorse a candidate.  He did however, found several things that he did not like about each candidate.  But he has got to be pleased that his so called “populist” message got out by one of his past opponents.

edwards has got to be pleased, but we will see if it was pandering by the candidates or if it is true.
