All this back and forth over a movie….”American Sniper”…….some say the story is about an American hero…….I will not subject my readers to a re-hash of what I had to say about the movie…..just go to yesterday’s posts and read it for yourself……
My regular readers know I have a problem with the term “hero”…….there have been some truly heroic situations but to use the term as some generic label is just wrong…..it diminishes the acts of a true hero
Side Note: We now have an “American Hero Channel”….but when did gunslingers and gangsters fall into the hero category? And that makes my point for me….and I thank them……

chuq,
Howdy, mon ami…. Having lately been immersed in my own personal drama, related in today’s post, as you already saw, in immense detail, I haven’t been by to say “howdy” in a while. Hope you’re doing okay, all in all, as we watch the world fall to small, broken pieces before our very eyes….
I concur completely with this post…. ’nuff said (Did you ever think you’d hear me say that? LOL!….)
Take care, brother; stay low, & keep your powder dry….

Great to hear from you my friend……this month has been a butt kicker for me too…..glad it is almost over…..chuq
Yes, we definitely need an operational definition for the word hero</b?, not one that exploits the jobs of people who wound up getting killed but one that demonstrates willing sacrifice of life or limbs. There are brave people who hire on to do dangerous jobs like cops, fire fighters and soldiers but their everyday chores are not heroic, even if they die in the line of duty. It's only when they have deliberately risked their lives to save others that make them truly heroic. Victims of crimes are definitely not heroes unless again they stepped in front of a killer to save another.
Hero has become a political dog whistle…..one is not a hero for doing ones job…..not if they do something off the clock to help then possibly but while in uniform they are employees…..politics has turned the term hero into a meaningless word that is spread around like peanut butter….
