There’s never been a woman in the NFL, but that’s not stopping Lauren Silberman. Just by trying out at the NFL regional trials on Sunday, she’ll be making history, becoming the first woman to do so, reports the AP. Silberman, 28, has no experience playing organized football, but she did play soccer at the University of Wisconsin, notes USA Today. She secured the invitation to the regional trial after video surfaced online of her making NFL field goals at an exhibition event. “I am working hard to prepare but I am also realistic about my chances,” she says. “I hope my willingness to put myself out there inspires others to seize opportunities and challenges.” Even though the odds are long, NFL punter Sean Landeta gives Silberman credit for competing. “I give her points for giving it a shot,” he says. “She’s obviously following her dream.”
Okay you macho dudes, whatcha think? After all it is women’s history month. Women can serve in combat now, why not football?
It was a promotional stunt. Did you see her kick? It barely made it 20 yards.
If women want to play football then they should start their own league. Women do not belong in men’s professional sports where physical contact is not only inevitable, but an object of the game. Men are much stronger, on average, and it wouldn’t be long before a woman is severely injured, if not killed, either intentionally by some indignant brute, or unintentionally by a man simply playing the game.
That men are stronger, on average, is simply a fact of life. It doesn’t mean men are “better” than women; it doesn’t mean that men should “rule” women. It is nothing other than a point to be considered before society forces the bogus notion of equality and political correctness into the NFL, NBA, NHL, or MLB.
I have no problem with women in NASCAR or Motocross because the physical strength of the athlete (if you want to call them that) is not all that relevant to the object of the sport. And women should be allowed to compete at the Masters Tournament as well. I see no reason why female golfers should be barred from that tournament, other than some asinine, antiquated club rule.
But the NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB? No way.
Terrance, of course it was a gimmick…..but it gets attention and that is what sports is all about……women play hockey, lacrosse and rugby….all pretty physical sports…..I think that some women could play in male dominated sports…..

Pre-season only, never in a real game. All though she was talented enough to do it, she never got the chance.
If they are willing to take the same drugs to get pumped up (what you think most football players grow that way?) why not. If they can get around on a 95mph fastball or throw a decent curve, sure. If they can dribble, penetrate, and play off the ball, ok. What is the NHL?
HI Q and welcome back…NHL is National Hockey League……and there was a female goalie that played for Tampa Bay about 15 years ago…..she was no worse than some of the male goalie that I have watched over the years…..
Women should be allowed to play men’s sports when men are allowed to play women’s sports. I would love to see Victor Hedman play in the women’s hockey league. Could you image a 6ft5 sweed putting a hit on a some girl that thinks there tough enough to play real hockey? That would teach them real quick that the sexes are made differently.
That is already happening to a small part….field hockey at the Olympics comes to m mind…..
