Nuke Material Goes Missing

One of the fears I have is the detonation of a dirty bomb……I have written about the different situations where nuke material has been involved……check them out……

This one I wrote for my friends over at Legationes……

I then followed that one up with a post about the possibility and the aftermath of a dirty bomb…..

This one I wrote for my friends over at Ace News Room……

All this is just my intro to something I read in the news the other day…….

Iraq is searching for “highly dangerous” radioactive material stolen last year, according to an environment ministry document and seven security, environmental and provincial officials who fear it could be used as a weapon if acquired by Islamic State.

Once again nuke material is at danger…….a dirty bomb is not that difficult to make for would-be terrorists…..as I said before the damage area may not be that substantial but the “fear” factor makes it a worthwhile endeavor for these bloodthirsty pigs….

This is a situation that should send a shiver down the spine of anyone that hears this news……

An updated versions has come out…….

A laptop-sized case containing “highly dangerous” radioactive materials has gone missing from a storage facility in Iraq, Reuters reports. And Iraqi officials are worried it may have been swiped by ISIS, which could use the iridium-192 inside to make a dirty bomb. “Shaping headlines is essential to ISIS’ jihad,” a terrorism expert tells Fox News. “Beheadings, explosions, and most brutal acts have become stale. A dirty bomb attack would be major news, regardless of how many immediate casualties occur.” The iridium was part of a camera used to find flaws in materials used to build pipelines. It belonged to a Turkish company but was being stored in a facility in Basra belonging to a US oil company.

The case was discovered missing in November, and it’s unclear if it was stolen or just misplaced. It it was stolen, the perpetrator likely had access and knowledge of the facility, as there were no signs of a break-in. The US State Department says there’s no indication ISIS has the radioactive materials. While not as powerful as a nuclear bomb, a dirty bomb made using the iridium would have the capability of making a large area dangerously radioactive. The contents of the case wouldn’t even have to be turned into a bomb to be dangerous, with mishandling them or just leaving them out somewhere being enough to put many people in jeopardy. News of the missing iridium comes amid increasing reports of ISIS using chemical weapons.

We can only pray that it is found before some dick turns it into a bomb…..

While You Were Awe Inspired

Few days ago all of the country was on the edge of their seats waiting for the kick-off of Super Bowl 50 and then all would be anxiously awaiting Beyonce…..while you were turning your brain to play dough….there was something that could be a little more important than some silly football game…….

Let’s not overlook the attacks of some in the media on the halftime show……it is really funny the lengths some will go to and attack something for no other reason than they cannot grasp that it was entertainment…….

Now let’s talk about something that is truly important and disturbing at the same time…….

North Korea defied international warnings and launched a long-range rocket that the UN and others call a cover for a banned test of technology for a missile that could strike the US mainland. The rocket was fired from North Korea’s west coast and tracked separately by the governments Japan and South Korea, which immediately convened an emergency national security council meeting, reports the AP. South Korean media reported that the rocket may have failed, but provided no other details. The launch follows North Korea’s widely disputed claim last month to have tested a hydrogen bomb. This time, the North had said it was launching a satellite, reports CNN.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe called the launch and the weapons test violations of UN agreements. “We absolutely cannot allow this,” he told reporters at the prime minister’s residence. “We will take action to totally protect the safety and well-being of our people.” A South Korean defense official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the rocket disappeared from South Korean military radars around six minutes after its launch. The official said there were no immediate reports of debris landing on South Korean territory or damaging property. The rocket’s first stage fell off South Korea’s west coast, the official said.

Now I ask…, what will the world do in response?

The UN Security Council has issued a statement strongly condemning North Korea’s rocket launch and pledging to “expeditiously” adopt a new resolution with “significant” new sanctions. The statement approved by all 15 council members at an emergency meeting on Sunday underscored that launches using ballistic missile technology, “even if characterized as a satellite launch or space launch vehicle” contribute to North Korea’s development of systems to deliver nuclear weapons. “There can be no business as usual,” said US Ambassador to the UN Samantha Power, per the BBC, adding that “we’ll come up with something tough.” Added Japan’s envoy: “The existing sanctions have not stopped North Korea from developing nuclear weapons.”

The statement stressed that using ballistic missile technology is a violation of four Security Council resolutions dating back to 2006. The statement also expresses the council’s commitment “to continue working toward a peaceful, diplomatic and political solution to the situation leading to the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.”

That ought to spank his pee-pee…….(that was sarcasm in cased anyone missed it)………

What should the world do?  Or is watching the re-play of SB 50 more important to your future Fantasy League?

It’s A Dirty Business

An op-ed that I wrote for my friends at Ace News Room…..

I am always amused when some neocon uses a nuclear holocaust when trying to make a period especially when the subject is world affairs…..you know the claim……that allusion of a “mushroom cloud” rising over whatever event these people are referring to in their speech…..whether it is DC or Israel or Europe…..matters not they use the same allusion to attempt to make a point………..Hell it has been used by this politician or that for 50 years or more……..personally I am sick of this imagery…..maybe they could find something else to scare the gullible……

Just listen to the rhetoric coming from our pro-war candidates…..that cloud is ever present…….

Iran Deal: What Now?

In case anyone is interested…..today Is Bastille Day.

I wrote about the deal as I heard about it…..about 0354 my time…….and since the announcement of the deal I have heard lots of people coming out in favor of it and even some normally rational individuals that are sarcastic about the deal…….and during that time not many of them knew what the deal was all about other that it was Iran…..and Iran bad in their tiny minds…….

I do not object to people bitching about something from one side or the other……but to bitch about something because someone said it is bad/good is where my problem lies…….

So let me make it easy for you…..if you want to write about the deal then maybe a few facts will help you decide which direction to write…….

Here is the deal………..as of this morning………

After 18 days of intense and often fractious negotiation—not to mention 20 months of “tortuous talks,” as CNN puts it—world powers and Iran have today struck a landmark deal to curb Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for billions of dollars in relief from international sanctions—an agreement designed to avert the threat of a nuclear-armed Iran and another US military intervention in the Muslim world. What you need to know about the 159-page Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, a deal that President Obama this morning emphasized “is not built on trust. It is built on verification”:

  • Iran will get rid of 98% of its stockpile of low-enriched uranium, to a level of no more than about 660 pounds, for 15 years. That’ll happen by diluting its stockpile or shipping it out of Iran, per the Guardian. Obama today explained that its current stockpile could fuel 10 nuclear weapons; under the new limitation, Iran would have a fraction of what would be required for a single weapon.
  • It will “remove two-thirds of its installed centrifuges and store them under constant international supervision,” per Obama.
  • The affect of the aforementioned stipulations, per the New York Times “the limits … would extend, to one year, the amount of time necessary for Iran to produce enough weapons-grade material for a single bomb if it should abandon the accord.”
  • The relief Iran will see once the International Atomic Energy Agency has confirmed the country is beginning to take the agreed-upon steps: a lifting of international sanctions related to finance, oil, shipping, and more (one line references the importation into the US of Iranian-origin carpets, pistachios, and caviar). An arms embargo will also be lifted in future years. “All these sanctions will snap back into place” if Iran violates the deal, per Obama.
  • IAEA inspectors “will be able to access any suspicious location,” per Obama. The Guardian explains that Iran can object to an IAEA request to inspect a location where undeclared nuclear activity is allegedly happening, but a multinational commission can, through a majority vote, override that.
  • Speaking of votes, Obama warned that he “will veto any legislation [from Congress] that prevents the successful implementation of this deal. … No deal means a greater chance of more war in the Middle East.”

As I understand the deal today…..I do not see much in a downside for the US.  But that will not stop Israel and their incessant predicting they will have a bomb in 6 months…..or was it 2 years…..no I think it was 5 years……..standing behind Israel is the Saudis and their complaints that Iran cannot be trusted……..but their concern is a religious paranoia not a bomb so much…….

All in all…..I would say a descent deal……we will have to see how the Right wing hawks will try to dick it all up……..and that will be the the real story here.

BTW…..Iranian pistachios are the best!

Too Stupid To Scare

Gyro-Copter……..Gyro-Copter……….Gyro-Copter………..if we say it often maybe it will go away!  The MSM is so absolutely worthless!

FEAR….the magical word for foreign policy.  Every day we as news consumers are given something to be afraid of at our evening meal.  Hispanics sneak across the border carrying leprosy…..or someone is coming for your guns……..or one sick person is a pandemic that will end all mankind…….or every mosque is hiding an army of terrorists…….or……crap! just watch the tube and see which one it is today.

Most of these stories are bogus…..and then there are stories that do not catch fire for some reason or another…….some of these stories could be used to generate fear or concern…..but for unknown reason they are seldom reported……like this story from last week…….

Radioactive material has been stolen off a truck in the southern Mexican state of Tabasco, and Mexico has put four neighboring states and federal agencies on alert as it seeks to recover the iridium-192, which CBS News reports is capable of causing serious lesions and death within a day if it escapes its protective casing. The IAEA classifies iridium-192 as a Category 2 substance; it has medical applications and was in a secure container. Officials urge anyone who finds it to establish a perimeter at least 90 feet away and not attempt to handle it.

The incident is at least the second such theft in recent years, though cobalt-60 that went missing in late 2013 turned out to be accidentally grabbed by thieves who didn’t know what they’d taken; several people were later treated for radiation exposure.

Material that could be used for a dirty bomb and NO fear generation….why is that?

We allow the MSM to generate the fear with bogus stories….let’s be honest…lies….and yet something like this are not a concern…….the material is just across the border from the US and could be smuggled in for a terrorist act……but it is not worthy of comment….even from the fear mongers.

Sorry if I sound like an alarmist but I believe this should be more worrisome than a 0ne patient pandemic…….you?
