2010 Anal-Ocity #11

I know most of you think that I am a bit unfair with my anal-ocities because I post on stupid sh*t that repubs say when they think no one is listening….that is just not so…..granted the Repubs have the tendency to say stupid stuff more often than Dems….but Dems are no better than their counterparts…..for instance…

Recently Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA) recently said when at a hearing on the possibility of moving 8000 Marines to the South Pacific island of Guam he said:

This is an island that at its widest level is what twelve miles from shore to shore, and at its smallest level location its seven miles between one shore and the other. Is that correct? […] My fear is that the whole island will become so overly populated that it will tip over and capsize.

He is worried about the island capsizing….think about that for a minute…..

See Dems can be just as ignorant as the Repubs……he tried to explain it a way by saying that he was speaking metaphorically…….

This is the man that someone elected to go to Washington…just goes to illustrate that you do not have to know anything to be a politician….just get the votes and you can have the job……

Sorry folks about I would like my rep to be at least as smart as a 5th grader…..

What Happened To The Passion?

Note:  This was suppose to be a Monday post….but the Saints took precedence ……..sorry……..but the delay in this post gave me a chance to hear and read what others thought of the incident…..apparently few see it as I do…….

I recall the days of yore……60’s and 70’s…..when there was a actual passion in political movements…those days are long gone…now it is more about the money…prestige and power……no longer are there any statesmen…..instead we get a/holes on a power trip…..

I watched the speech given by Sarah Palin at the Tea Party Convention…..sorry to say…I was underwhelmed…….once again it was all about the attack on the Prez…..I was hoping that there would be a few more alternatives to the problems that everyone seems to want to point out…but I was disheartened yet again…..anyone and I mean anyone can attack a position or an issue…that takes absolutely NO thought or prep….the speech was all about what is wrong with the Obama Admin….I expected that and was looking forward to hearing her options…..but they NEVER came…as a matter of fact the speech was about as boring and noncommittal as her book…..sorry guys…call as I see it!  Personally, I do not see where her speech was worth the $100,000 price tag….

The Blogs on the Left are all over Palin and the notes she used written in her hand at the speech…..this from a HuffPost Exclusive:

Closer inspection of a photo of Sarah Palin, during a speech in which she mocked President Obama for his use of a teleprompter, reveals several notes written on her left hand. The words “Energy”, “Tax” and “Lift American Spirits” are clearly visible. There’s also what appears to read as “Budget cuts” with the word Budget crossed out.

I have NO problem with speakers writing notes about the subject…hell I have done it when lecturing…..but the words she scribbled look like core principles….energy, taxes, security, yada, yada….are core principles of the GOP….Like I have said I have used notes before but I NEVER had to remind myself what my core principles were…..

Now, if a person has to be reminded of their core beliefs then they are either scamming the public or just talking points….I have NO idea what Palin’s excuse will be…but the more I see and hear her, the more I question any position that sees her as a viable presidential candidate……

She offers lots of criticism but NO alternatives and apparently she is not sure what her core beliefs are either…..maybe her supporters should move past the “rock star” with cute sayings and look for someone that would do the movement proud…..sorry people…she lacks any passion; it is more about the money than the politics……..I do NOT think she is your answer……

2010 Anal-Ocity #1

A new year and a new bunch of anal statements to nominate for the annual “Assie” Award……I am sure that this will be another excellent year for the statements….the first one was sent to me by a loyal reader Chris at Why We Worry (a very good site with good issues and can be visited by going to my blogroll…please visit if you get the chance)

This one anal statement is given by Dem. Harold Ford…soon to run for the Senate from New York:

“I am a capitalist. I believe that people take risk, and there are rewards if they do well; they should lose if they don’t.”

And away we go…..so it begins……

Please to any and all of my readers….if you find a comment that you think is a good candidate for the Assies please send to me and we will put it on the site….

Where Has The Middle Class Gone?

Gone to foreclosure……gone to food stamps….gone to unemployment…..every one…..and the sad part of the saga is that it will most likely never return…..nothing being offered up by the government will protect or strengthen the middle class…it is a dying breed….it is dying slowly and most painfully…

I have heard economists and economic journalists say that part of the problem is the rise of China….this I agree with…..then they say that jobs are sent overseas because labor is cheaper and more profit can be made…..I also agree with this….but then they lose me….they say that the answer to our diminishing middle class is education….and education is the only way to save our faultering economy and middle class….sorry, no matter how I say it…….I can only hear the word BULLSH*T!

Still if they all believe that education is the answer……try to find an explanation for me…..how would a more educated people be a way to save jobs from going overseas?  Would that not make more jobs flee?  I mean with the cost of education and the cost of living in the US so high….jobs would still be sent overseas….a more educated middle class would not bring jobs back and would not make for a stronger economy….what business needs is less educated workers….why?….they will work cheap….that would help bring jobs home….

The Middle class is disappearing thanks to the politics of the country….why?……Massive national and personal debt. The US national debt has risen more in the last five years than in the entire history of the country. Even worse than the debt are the unfunded obligations of the US government in future years. Trump and Kiyosaki say that the unfunded obligations for Social Security are roughly $10 trillion, and those of Medicare are roughly $60 trillion. They compare these to the estimated value of the entire New York Stock Exchange at $35 trillion. These massive obligations are the result of unfunded promises to the large generation of baby boomers who are approaching retirement age. There is simply no way out of this morass that is without significant pain. Second, personal debt is also at an all-time high. One of the reasons for so many home mortgage foreclosures was homeowners using their home equity as a “piggy bank” to fund cars, vacations, luxury items, home improvements, etc. When the housing bubble burst, many of them could not keep up with their mortgage and credit card debt.

All the above causes are directly the fault of the politicians and their attitudes toward the people….absolutely NO ONE in Washington is working to sure up the middle class….banks got it….auto makers got it…..workers got diddly.  The Middle Class will be a course taught in grad school for economics……

I Have Questions

Daily Agitator

And would like some answers to them…..simple easy understandable answers….please NO talking points or press releases or whatever….just plain simple answers…..

For years I have listened to the pundits and sycophants tell me certain things….but seldom do they explain themselves so that people, all people can understand their reasoning.

Okay, dudes here is your chance to be the hero…..

1–Same sex marriage…..years decades I have been told that if people of the same sex marry then it would destroy the sanctity of the institution of marriage……How?  How will the institution be destroyed?

2–People on the Right when they are opposing certain issues they seem to always say that it is destroying our freedom…whether it is health care or the environment or……just which freedoms would I lose if we pass, say health reform?  Just which freedoms are we in danger of losing?

3–At a recent rally in Washington a representative of the people, one Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, called for a revolution……pause here for thought…..a revolution on the right to oppose the majority in Congress….think about that…..what would we say if Bill Ayers got up in front of thousands and called for a revolution against elected officials?

4–Why do politicians stand on the Constitution in their opposition and have NO idea what the document says?

5–Should elected officials be forced to take the “citizenship” test to be sure that they understand the Constitution or at least prove that they graduated the 6th grade or even took a Civics class?

6–My last question is for the rock band U2 and MTV–in a recent concert in Berlin to celebrate the fall of the Berlin Wall, why would you think it a good idea to erect a wall to keep people out?  Is that not what the original Wall was doing?

Questions….questions …and few answers……

These Political Types Are A Greedy Lot!

As always it is all about the cash not the service……the days of a person doing public service as their civic duty is long gone….now it is ALL about the GREEN……

I recall back in the day while grad school and studying the Revolutionary War period of US history…there were those that said that public service was a civic duty…that did not last long…..while I am not a Jefferson cheerleader, he was a statesman…..there is absolutely NO one in Washington that can be called that today.  In today’s political world it is all about power and money…..

The Senator from my state, left his post about a year early so he could get in under the cut-off date to become a lobbyist…he never worked for Mississippi…he diod work hard for Trent Lott…selfish SOB….

Look at Palin….she quite the governorship for the better of the state since there was so much legal wrangling going on…..she just wanted what wass best for Alaska…..is that echoing laughter I hear?…….

Let us be real….Palin left her duties as governor in pursuit of cash…she cared not for what was happening in Alaska…..$1.25 million advance on her book, as a client of a speakers bureau she asks for $75,000 + 3 first class plane tickets for a speech on a college campus and it looks like the going price for her to make a political speech is $100,000…..sound like a great gig if you can get it…….

I am not bad mouthing Palin…this is an all too common thing with ALL the Washington types…party matters not…….if the love of money is the root of all evil…..then Washington is crawling with evil……

This sounds like ALL our elected officials….not many in the government that are not millionaires……if not before they run, then after the are elected……maybe this explains a lot….what?….GREED…….Washington, Wall Street…….

These political types are a GREEDY lot!

The Real Public Option Story

By now we all have heard all the stuff about the proposed public option….you know the stuff about it being too costly…or it is a government takeover….or that it was “creeping” socialism…..and my favorite…it will pull the plug on poor old grannie….all the fun stuff that talk radio is buzzing about.

All that aside…what is the real story on the public option?

First of all…. researchers at Harvard Medical School have found that about 45,000 people die because they have NO insurance coverage each year.  Overall, researchers said American adults age 64 and younger who lack health insurance have a 40 percent higher risk of death than those who have coverage.  An similar study in 1993 found those without insurance had a 25 percent greater risk of death, according to the Harvard group. The Institute of Medicine later used that data in its 2002 estimate showing about 18,000 people a year died because they lacked coverage.  A helluva increase in 16 years and the ranks are growing thanks to the economy.

Forty percent of employers surveyed said they are likely to increase the amount their workers pay out of pocket for doctor visits. Almost as many said they are likely to raise annual deductibles and the amount workers pay for prescription drugs.

Nine percent said they plan to tighten eligibility for health benefits; 8 percent said they plan to drop coverage entirely. Forty-one percent of employers said they are “somewhat” or “very” likely to increase the amount employees pay in premiums — though that would not necessarily mean employees would pay a higher percentage of the premiums. Employers could simply be passing along the same share of the overall increase that they are doing this year.

There is a way to fight these increases……

The public option has many friends……A New England Journal of Medicine survey released yesterday reveals that 73 percent of doctors favor a public option as a component of health care reform.  Sixty-three percent favored a public option as part of a public-private mix of insurance options, while another 10 percent favored a single-payer system.

What about the public and its desire for the public option?

  • 76 percent of respondents in a poll conducted by NBC and The Wall Street Journal stated that creating a public plan was important, and 71 percent of respondents in the same poll self-identified as either moderate or conservative.
  • A Lake Research Poll in January found that 73% of voters want the choice of a public health insurance option, even when they hear the sharpest insurance industry attacks, such as claims that a public health insurance plan would lead to lower quality health care, more expensive health care, or big government. Those favoring the plan include Democrats (77%), Independents (79%) and Republicans (63%).
  • 71 percent of rural voters in a poll conducted by Lake Research favored the choice of a public plan, a figure nearly identical to the level of support found in urban areas.
  • Rural voters believe in competition. According to these voters, if private insurers are really more efficient than government, they won’t have trouble competing effectively with a public health plan option. In rural areas, voters hold this view more strongly (62%) than in cities (57%). Only 23% of rural voters say a public health insurance plan will have an unfair advantage over private plans.

Now you have the basics of what is thought about the public option…now ask if that many doctors, who are experts in the medical industry, want the public option and if that many people in the population are wanting it….then why is it such a heated debate in Washington?

First of all, it is playing politics…….second, it is playing it with the health of the entire population…..and finally, with that much support in the country why is it that so many politicians are against it?  If these people are elected to do the bidding of the people, why are they not doing so?

Easy answer….MONEY speaks LOUDLY in Washington and the insurance industry has enough money to speak very loudly.

Should We Tweak Or Reform?

My post was originally posted on Progressive Independence, which is a good sight and all should visit and get involved…..just go to blogroll and enjoy.

Health Care….this one subject is at the heart of the country right now…..72% of the American people want reform and about none of the politicians seem to want reform…now they are playing the cowards game of tweaking the system so that it will play well in Congress.

$3.66 trillion budget deficit…..or is it a $2 trillion….or $1.2 trillion…just what is the deficit and when does it get out of control?  Or do you really care?  I mean your elected officials are telling the country that you care….but do do you?

Our country is in serious straits noe…health care needs fining…..Wall Street needs to be bitch slapped…..the environment needs fixing….lots of problems need fixing…..why?…they ALL have been ignored for decades and now it is come calling.

If you are old enough…think back to the ’70’s there were a wealth of plans to help make the US energy independent….but they were not popular with the new administrations so the problem was tweaked, if anything was done at all.  The in the 90’s health care was important and instead of refom and fixing the problem…all settled for a tweaking and the problem got worse….which seems to be a common thread to ALL Washington’s past tweakings.

Politician’s always settle for a tweaking instead of a real solution to pressing problems.  Why?  A wealth of reasons….keeping contributors happy….looking to re-election…..there is a number of reasons….and NONE of them actually helps the people they represent.  And unfortunately, all the tweaking has cost more money in the “much mentioned” long run than it would have if they had had the guts to pass real reform.

Basically all the BS about the deficit is a smoke screen to cover the cowardice of the elected representatives.  Yes, I said cowardice!  Tweaking is a coward’s way out.

If the American people truly want reform then they need to find politicians with guts and brains….two qualities that are sadly missing in the flock of cowards we now have in Washington.

Will Dems Ever Find Their Spine?

The best answer for now is–it is very doubtful.  With the most recent election there was such hope…the Dems had a good majority in Congress and a prez that was talking change and progress.  But 5 months into the new presidency and what was happened–the Dems have lost what little spine that had in the first place.

Take health care….why are so many Dems back off the idea of universal health care?  It is not because the people are against….that poll shows that over 70% of the voters want a health care plan.  Then why are they dragging their feet on health care, after all they have a great majority and could pull a GW move and force their programs through the Congress….then why are they so timid?

Could it be that they do not want to offend their campaign contributors?  That makes more sense than any of the other reasons I have heard.

Recently Kaiser Health News wrote:

“Almost 30 key lawmakers helping draft landmark health-care legislation have financial holdings in the industry, totaling nearly $11 million worth of personal investments in a sector that could be dramatically reshaped by this summer’s debate,” The Washington Post reports. The list of members includes “Congress’s most powerful leaders and a bipartisan collection of lawmakers in key committee posts.” For example, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., “has at least $50,000 invested in a health-care index” (fund), and Sen. Judd Gregg, R-NH, “a senior member of the health committee, has between $254,000 and $560,000 worth of stock holdings in major health-care companies, including Bristol-Myers Squibb and Merck.” The data was part of a “release of financial disclosure forms for the House and Senate” on Friday.

“While no congressional rules bar members from holding financial stakes in industries they regulate, some ethics experts suggest that it often creates the appearance of a conflict of interest, particularly if there is a chance that the legislation could result in a personal financial boost.” But at “nearly 20%” of the national economy, “many legal experts say the health-care industry is so predominant that it is impossible for lawmakers to avoid financial ties to that sector, suggesting that the best antidote is a clear disclosure system that makes every lawmaker’s finances publicly available.”

I have suggesdted that someone in the mainstream media publish a list of the politicians that have received money from the health industry and then publish the vote on any health issues and see who votes where.  I suspect that the health industry has bought many friends and they will now repay them for their generosity.

The Dems have had NO spine for many years and now they have a chance to redeem themselves inb the eyes of the voter and yet they waffle.  I have heard many so called “liberal” politicians waffle ….Feinstein has said “we may not have the votes” on health issues and then Daschle has said “we will have to trim federal health programs”.

They were so close to having a spine and yet so far away.

2009 Anal-Ocity

Believe me, I cannot make this stuff up…..my imagination is good but damn!  not that good.

Recently the state of Florida the legislature was dealing with a bill dealing with bestiality.  The bill was amended to target only those who derived or helped others derive “sexual gratification” from an animal. The amendment specified that conventional dog-judging contests and animal-husbandry practices are permissible.

Wait for it!  Here is the Anal part!

That last provision tripped up Miami Democratic Sen. Larcenia Bullard.

“People are taking these animals as their husbands? What’s husbandry?” she asked.

Okay…I have laughed enough at this….just goes to show that one does not have to be a smart person to be a politician just electable.
