Closing Thought–11Jan18

Those damn pesky medical expenses…..

Anyone that has had to stay in the hospital for any length of time will know just how damn expensive American health care can be……if you have not experienced this then count yourself lucky and pray that you do not have some sort of debilitating disease or need some sort of “procedure”….for you will then learn just how high this situation can go.

The United States spends almost twice as much on health care, as a percentage of its economy, as other advanced industrialized countries — totaling $3.3 trillion, or 17.9 percent of gross domestic product in 2016.

But a few decades ago American health care spending was much closer to that of peer nations.

What happened?

      1. We have to have private pet insurance for our dog, Ollie. In less than six years, he has cost almost £7,000 in operations, treatments, inoculations, and check-ups. The monthly premium has increased from £35 at the start, to almost £60 now. That gives us some idea of how that would pan out for us as adult humans.

      2. I have considered getting insurance for my two dogs but it is almost as prohibited as human……the US is screwing the elderly hard and with Trump it will just keep getting worse and Trump support is still there with our seniors….cannot understand it at all…..sometimes I think we are a country of idiots….chuq

      3. The best man thing is all the rage here….some are betting it will be Obama…..but I know this because my granddaughter ask me about it….chuq

  1. You can credit all the illegals getting free emergency health care and over-running and over-burdening the system and you can credit Obama Care’s escalating run-away premium rates — and you can credit the Government’s reluctance to let the Medical Community have negotiating power to get cheaper medicines (Compliments of the Big Drug Lobbyists). Those are a few of the “Whys” connected to the question of run-away medical costs in this country. One viable alternative is India, where a lot of Americans are going for expensive procedures that the Indian Medical People have decided, should not cost a virtual arm and a leg and the care is reportedly excellent too. Another problem has been our government’s propensity for expanding Medicaid and adding thousands of new patients (some of which are able-bodied drunks milking the system) — able-bodied dolts who should be made to work at community service in return for some of the free care they are stealing from “Real” taxpayers who work for a living … and people like yourself who have worked all your lives and are now called on to provide for the lazy who prefer to suck on the “Freebies” rather than lift a finger to work.

  2. welfare bums getting added to the Medicaid roles … government refusal to allow negotiation for cheaper medicines — illegals crowding and over-burdening the emergency rooms — low-wage or no-wage riff-raff being added to Medicaid roles by the million … people who could work if they were not using their addictions as excuses for being unable to work …. people who should be forced to do something productive in return for the free care that you are paying for ….Those are some of the problems that add to the situation you have spoken of here on your post.

    1. Where are all these “illegals” on the rolls? More poor and elderly are the ones that benefit from Medicaid….there is some cheating but then there is cheating on every program the government offers….but it iss not as widespread as some would like it to be chuq

      1. In 2010, the average unlawful immigrant household received around $24,721 in government benefits and services while paying some $10,334 in taxes. This generated an average annual fiscal deficit (benefits received minus taxes paid) of around $14,387 per household. This cost had to be borne by U.S. taxpayers.

      2. Good stats and from where were these pulled….IU have seen no “illegals” in the ER and believe me I have spent a bunch oif time in one……and at the store I buy from a market where many Hispanics shop and so far I have seen none use EBT cards….so from my experience I have not seen any abuse…but as you say anything is possible….chuq

  3. YOU said …. “the US is screwing the elderly hard and with Trump it will just keep getting worse ” —-I remember it all started with Obama Care (which is currently prohibitively expensive and getting worse) —and if you think it is bad under Trump just wait till you get the Ryan Touch applied to the system — The “Elderly” have supported Trump thus far because Trump has been good for them …especially those with investment accounts in the skyrocketing stock market … people like myself for example …. We could do worse — and if we get another Democrat we definitely will because both parties are about the same now ….nothing changes unless it gets worse regardless of who is in office.
