“Covfefe” Returns!

Awhile back Trump Tweeted the term and the media went batcrap crazy….and yes I wrote about it….read for yourself…….

It has returned……there is a move to make his Tweets part of the official record…..

First, covfefe made it into the Urban Dictionary. Now it could make it into the Presidential Records Act. Taking inspiration from White House spokesman Sean Spicer—who last week described Trump’s tweets as “official statements by the president”—Illinois Democrat Mike Quigley on Monday introduced the Communications Over Various Feeds Electronically For Engagement (COVFEFE) Act, which would add “social media” materials to those preserved as official statements under the Presidential Records Act, reports Reuters. If passed, it would require the National Archives to preserve tweets from Trump’s official and personal accounts. The act would also bar Trump from deleting tweets, reports the Hill.

The COVFEFE Act isn’t meant as a dig at Trump, at least not entirely. It addresses “a legitimate issue,” per NPR, since the Presidential Records Act was crafted in 1978, before social media could’ve been imagined. “Tweets are powerful, and the president must be held accountable for every post,” says Quigley, who previously introduced the Making Access Records Available to Lead American Government Openness (MAR-A-LAGO) Act. “If the president is going to take to social media to make sudden public policy proclamations, we must ensure that these statements are documented and preserved for future reference.” The White House has yet to comment. (Here’s Spicer’s take on covfefe.)

I think that it is a stellar idea…..put all this in the presidential record or the Congressional record….it will make future research so much easier…..all other communications are on record….why not Twitter?

Time for me to put IST to bad…..I will go enjoy a nice Paella with a superb Spanish white wine, albarino….see ya tomorrow my friends.  chuq

  1. I am enjoying a bottle of ‘Sangre de Toros’ as I type this.
Enjoy your Paella, chuq, I’m having chilli con carne soon.
The Covfefe thing is not that much of an issue here.
    Regards, Pete.

  2. Social media (I even hate the term) in official government records? That’s one step above saving important bowel movements. These are the End Times indeed.

The only upside to this? It’ll serve as conclusive evidence to whatever future civilization that digs up our ruins as to why our civilization collapsed.

    1. Asa long as it pertains to governing then I think it should be part of the record…..anything else and it is just wasted space…..chuq

      1. Does anything that Trump spews out actually pertain to governing? I consider it more of a daily diversion from actual governing. Other than “Terrible”, “Very sad”, “Fantastic” and “Best/Worst ever”….where are the discussions of policy? Actually, It’s virtually indistinguishable from the Nixon tapes of his utterings while on the Oval Office’s toilet. “Fantastic. It’s about time. Take that, Checkers!”

It’s all just bravado & dung throwing. While it plays well to the increasingly large audience of mouth breathing simpletons hooked on combat….I firmly believe Trump’s Twit Zone account is actually a deliberate tactic to distract us goldfish
from actual policy discussion and towards his entertaining (but meaningless) brain farts of the hour.

Meanwhile, Congress has transformed from a dead tortoise into a hare on crack, de-funding/destroying everything with minimal scrutiny. The body that couldn’t pass a declaration that “America is the best country ever.” has been cranking shit out faster than a goose on laxatives..mostly under cover of media darkness…because the Orangutan In Chief’s Twit Zone account gets all the attention.

      2. Good point and I am researching a new rule about not letting press interview Senators on camera….I will be posting it tomorrow if all goes well….chuq
