But It’s Fruity

As the weekend begins I am reminded that we Americans are suckers for fads and trendy crap.

Look at kale…..the perfect example of the premise that you can sell anything to the gullible.  Or the rush to find the hottest pepper…..why would you want to eat something that is painful?  And then there is that damn silly fad of putting a lime in beer…..silly.

Then there are the boozes out there….flavored vodka, bourbon, gin, wine etc………. and what about beer?

And this is where this post picks up….

“It’s about us geeking out with flavor and pushing the boundaries of beer. It’s sort of how craft beer in America has always been. We’ve always been pushing the boundaries.”

That’s Erik Jensen, brewmaster at San Diego’s Green Flash brewery, talking about the next big thing in craft beer. He’s not referring to bitter IPAs or nitrogen-carbonated brews; he’s talking about fruit beer. That’s right: It’s time to stop throwing shade at the shandy and say hello to your new, go-to summer beverage.

At its core, craft beer has always been about experimentation. As Gerard Leary, owner of New York craft beer bar One Mile House, puts it, “American breweries are ballsy,” and fruit beer’s newfound popularity is the latest manifestation of that attitude.

Fruity beer?  Sorry I want my beer to taste the way God intended….like beer.

There are certain constants in life….an onion taste like an onion, coffee taste like coffee and ……..(this is a bit risque and will be shared upon request) and beer to taste like BEER!

And the finally the ultimate fad…rename your beer something trendy for the Summer….a name like…America (what a pathetic gimmick)….but if you want to change the name why not go for something a little more accurate…..like URINE!

If you want a great beer then may I suggest…..

Samuel Adams Boston Lager

Or this one……

Guinness Blonde American Lager

And finally one of the best

Now have a beer and enjoy your Saturday…I know I shall…..maybe a steak…..also.

      1. With a steak I drink a good quality red wine…..like ya supposed to do….grin
I only eat steak once/twice a year…but I drink Rioja as often as I can afford it.

    1. Where Are You Guys At?
      Get With It!
      You Old Farts…
      Brewdog…Punk I.P.A.
This 5.6% trans-atlantic fusion IPA is light golden in colour with tropical fruits and light caramel on the nose. The palate soon becomes assertive and resinous with the New Zealand hops balanced by the biscuit malt. The finish is aggressive and dry with the hops emerging over the warming alcohol.
This fresh, full flavour natural beer is our tribute to the classic IPAs of yester-year.
      Try the 9% ….fit for a Queen!
      You Old Farts!
      🙂

      1. ps…I do not like fruity beers….or the ones that have chocolate in them…..yuk.
The above is not fruity and yet, the flavour of the hops come shining through….light and succulent.
        A fine beer.

      2. In Belgium one can buy Chimay beers and are among the rare types recognized as authentic Trappist products.
They are brewed by monks…..cheeses too…
Brewed for many years, these beers take their personality from their unique yeast and the purity of the Abbey well water.
The big difference with Brewdog (newish company, full of upstarts)…is that their 9% beer is not ‘thick’ I cannot think of a better word…they have somehow fused the old with the new….they are a Glasgow company….and very talented…a little pricey but what the hell.
I cannot think of anything better than to go to a craft beer festival…you get to taste shots and talk to the blokes grin .and… if there is good music…. Bonus!
ps..there are women like ~dru~ which makes it even better!

    2. You can keep your lagers..
      I’ll stick with a Beer…a Craft beer.
Lagers are for those ….who dig holes…and work up a sweat….
      Ask the Ozzies..

      1. Ha, we all love a good Aussie bashing! Having said that Boags has won a few international beer awards.

      2. Have never tried it…I live in a state that the government controls what we can drink…if it ever shows up I will give it a go….I still do not like the wine…LOL….chuq

      3. Yeah for wines I’d stick to their neighbours in New Zealand, they do some great Sauvignon blancs.

      4. Again not in my state…but if it shows up I will try….I appreciate the heads up on this….chuq

  1. Negra Modelo is one of my favorites too. I also like very dark beers but for drinking with food; Medelo is very good, maybe even the best. In my opinion: Beer is Food and Wine is Medicine but Gin is my Favorite and will Kill me the Fastest. giggle Yours in Bacchus ~~dru~~

I do like an Enghilsh Shandy ever once in awhilt, even if it is whoosey but for a real summer ade…there is nothing like a Texas Skippy
