Is Prayer A Cure All?

I know people that pray on everything….they pray for a better job, or for more tolerance (now there is a joke for SNL)…..even a program to pray gay away………. or to cure an illness that is ravishing through someone’s body…….and that is where I want to begin…..

Trine Tsouderos reports in the Chicago Tribune:

Thanks to a $374,000 taxpayer-funded grant, we now know that inhaling lemon and lavender scents doesn’t do a lot for our ability to heal a wound. With $666,000 in federal research money, scientists examined whether distant prayer could heal AIDS. It could not.

The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine also helped pay scientists to study whether squirting brewed coffee into someone’s intestines can help treat pancreatic cancer (a $406,000 grant) and whether massage makes people with advanced cancer feel better ($1.25 million). The coffee enemas did not help. The massage did.

NCCAM also has invested in studies of various forms of energy healing, including one based on the ideas of a self-described “healer, clairvoyant and medicine woman” who says her children inspired her to learn to read auras. The cost for that was $104,000.

Dammit!  I have got to find a way to get in on the government grant gravy train!

  1. What jerks my chain and makes me incredibly angry, is that instead of looking for medicines that might help or cure a disease, like the semi-rare one I have, that no one is working on in Big Pharma because not enough people have it to pay off creating a medicine for it, our govt spends our money on bullshit like you name here.

There is one fucking drug to treat my problem, no one even gives a shit enough to make a generic for it and it costs 483 bucks a month, which means I hit that fucking Medical donut hole by mid summer.

How this news you share, disgusts me. And the NIH money is going to get even tighter in the coming years according to the piece you link to.

ARGH! Its maddening. And its another example of waste.

    1. Dusty, I found out in my case that the is not generic for my drug is because they are protecting the developer for 5 yrs so that they can make back their R&D……no matter the illness…it is all about the profit not the cure…..and that is sad….really sad.

      1. Not the case w/my drug as it’s been on the market for over 7 years. It’s just that they, Big Pharma, won’t make money off it because so few people have the severe form of the condition, which I do. So, the original company gets to keep it at that exorbitant pricing level since no one wants to spend the money or time to create the generic.

Thats why we call it Big Pharma right? Its all about the money, not helping/saving people for them.

      2. The pricks! I am so sorry that there are assholes….it is not right and someone should grow a set of nits and tell Pharma to suck it up….and make the drug available at a price that people can afford…..
